Compared to the highs of DXC 1, 2, and 3, this collection was a generally "meh" experience. Here's a breakdown of my thoughts:
- Uktena 64: A solid game. The spooky atmosphere was well done, and the final stage, where you get to blast the devil with a light machine gun, was kinda funny ngl.
- Axis Mundi: A "meh" game. Fighting the ghosts with a camera felt too easy, the puzzles weren't engaging, and the lore lacked any real depth.
- Black Relic: This one was rough. The combat was atrocious, largely due to the ridiculously long crossbow reload time for "historical accuracy" – a regular bow would have been far better. The protagonist's minuscule carrying capacity of six arrows was absurd, and the clunky camera controls, with the sprint and 180-degree turn mapped to the same Shift button, led to frustrating accidental rotations during fights.
- Rose of Meat: A bad game. Overwhelming visual chaos induced dizziness. While I understand this game is an abstract type of games, the constant spawning random stuffs and the incomprehensible lore made it unpleasant to play.
- Seraphixial: This was an extremely bad game. The cheap-looking "Chinese plastic" 3D art style made everything, guns, monsters, environments offensive to my eyes. The severe lag in stages 2 and 3 due to poor optimization was unacceptable, and the story was utterly confusing.
- The Fruit: A decent game. It was easy to complete, but the unoptimization in the windmill section was noticeable due to framerate dropping. This game also lacks a save function (only has checkpoints, so if you quit mid game, you have to start from the beginning) despite it took at least 1 hour playtime. (Recommendation: make sure you have the time to play it in one sitting).
- The House of Unrest: Best game for me. It managed to be both spooky and genuinely fun, has an epic final boss fight where you dual-wield AK-47s as a badass priest.
- Dread X Collection 4's story: Overall, I'd give the narrative a "meh" rating. I don't want to spoil, but it's just not very scary.
