me and my brother started playing this a few days ago and have had it as just our little bonding game or whatever you wanna call it, and honestly even with just a 2-man squad, this game is really really really good.
It's not like other tactical shooters where you can use tactics but aren't necessarily required.
In this game, they are indeed required.
the AI is really really smart for an early 2000's game, as primitive as it looks, there are some really advanced systems for the time in this game. proper ballistics, smart AI that hold angles and make you think about how you re-engage, and just overall a really good tactical shooter. every mission feels different, and they actually take some trial and error to get through them, actual planning, actual tactics. Exactly what I wanted from the newer Ghost Recon games but never got, and I am so glad I found this absolute GEM of a tactical shooter.

Back when Tom Clancy games were Tom Clancy games. Not some looney tunes crap.

Difficult and rewards patient playing except on the missions that put a clock on things. Even though you can't see your guns they have a more authentic feel than in many modern titles. The enemies are really dangerous but so are your squads. The team mates have a rudimentary AI but they're reliable and saved my day many times. The indoors cleaning is not as fun as in R6 3, but that's where grenades come in handy. The graphics and environments look good albeit blocky. Sometimes the fog is a bit too much, but it's an old game, Desert Siege expansion is easier than the main GR campaign, whereas Island Thunder is kind of difficult. It's a shame the series didn't stick to this recipe. The game works OotB on Proton and I never encountered a single bug in the game itself.

This was not only very surprisingly a good game, but also may be my favourite tactical shooter now (Sorry RS3). The game has good difficulty, great levels, and a brutal difficulty. Just about everything I want from a tactical shooter.

A classic with a campaign that affects unit achievements and losses. We are sorely lacking titles like this one in the 2020s.
