Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey DX Reviews

This is my 13th Atelier game, and likely the first one I will not finish. Perhaps in the future, but... right now the game feels extremely tedious that I find myself lacking with a desire to continue playing and just wanting to move on for now, especially with Yumia on the horizon. I was initially actually excited that it was gonna be open world even if I generally am not that big on open world games due to their lack of direction and too much stuff to do causing me to suffer from choice paralysis and feeling overwhelmed with making sure I check every nook and cranny. Add that in this game your damn basket and storage is way too small and me being a hoarder is a very unhappy camper. Clearing the maps was kinda fun at first, I defo enjoy doing that in Ys games but Ys game have direction. This game... Nope. The travel system is likely what makes it so bad, to boot. Until you do the exam and stuff (the exam being massive bs too btw), you can ONLY fast travel within the current map you're on, making it even more tedious to go from point A to B and since you can scarcely hold any stuff in your storage you're gonna have to go back and forth too to gather stuff you passed or sold cuz you had no room left. Siiiigh. Then there's also the combat which feels terrible. Enemies get way too many turns, and it's slow too, even at 2X speed. I also think the alchemy system is garbage in this game, I don't enjoy synthesizing at all in this one. It is confusing and convoluted, I don't like the tetris junk, didn't like it in Sophie either and they made it worse in this one. Literally, all I enjoy really is the music, environments, and Firis herself. She is super cute and all her little outfits are adorable. Other than Firis didn't care much for any of the side characters though, and her sister is hella weird, too. I also didn't care much for meeting Oskar again, and I am not that big into Sophie and Plachta either. Sophie is okay, but eh. Maybe I will enjoy her more in Sophie 2, we'll see. It just feels so far the mysterious series is the least fave one to me and I've played all of Arland, Dusk, Ryza 1 & 2 and Marie remake. In terms of the Mysterious series though; I enjoyed Atelier Sophie more gameplay wise to the point of finishing everything and even recommending it, but it was, despite that, still the first Atelier game I liked least of all. Liking it least does not mean the game is bad though. Just out of all of them, bottom tier for me. Now, I am actually not even sure which is my least fave, this one or the first in the Mysterious series. But I do know I recommend Sophie over Firis because the gameplay is a lot better and there's more direction. On to Lydie & Suelle, hopefully the final entry of the Mysterious trilogy (barring the later release of Sophie 2) will close it off with a banger.

Atelier Firis was a fun experience! It can be more rough than modern Atelier games, but overall I enjoyed playing it.

Firis is cute but the game is harder if compare to sophie and ryza. I tried my best to pass the exam but nope, i failed and gonna move on to another atelier series. Maybe i just hate exam.
