TL;DR:
An updated port of the PS2 vampire huntress game, you bought back in the day. Very Janky, Not worth the full price. So wait for sale. Also, DRM-FREE.
Summary:
Previously played on PS2 back in the day and I gotta say, it's an improvement over the old version, since you don't need to tweak stuff out, like game unlisted resolutions and controllers. It's all there, just sit-back, relax and enjoy for those who wanna revisit.
You play as Rayne (Laura Bailey), a Dhampir in a search for her Vampire father, joined the Secret Organization that investigate paranormal and supernatural sightings. You fight from monsters, zombies, mutants and also Nazi. You fight using guns and swords, Rage and you can grapple-chain an enemy and suck 'em dry to refill your health.
Cons:
To address the cons first, the gameplay in this game has aged very poorly. Movement & Camera still feels janky, Combat feels wonky and some mechanics aged like milk. Also the game suffers UI/HUD inconsistency. The HUD is adjust in the middle instead the respective screen and had a habit of locking the damn cursor to the game window, when using Multi-monitor or when you just ALT+TAB-ing. Fixes for that is below.
Oh yeah controller prompt/icons are inconsistent. Remap still uses the sh!tty generic PC icons from the 2000s, while on gameplay, the X/Y/B/A prompt/icons uses the old original Xbox icons, while Bumper & Triggers used it's PS2 icons, which doesn't make any sense! This icon/prompt issue seems to be fixed on the newer console release supposedly.
Pros:
The game is patched up to modern standards. No longer required to tweak for using Modern/unlisted resolutions like Ultrawide for example; Controller is no longer the primitive DirectInput (despite inconsistency), achievements and IT'S DRM-FREE! So you don't need to play it through the Steam Client, if you're lazy.
Seriously, I already beat this game a month ago, but since it doesn't track my time, it also doesn't track my achievements as well. So I had to go to the damn client and up me hours and achievements. Which is annoying, but it's just how it is.
Verdict:
This game is not worth at full-price, so I recommend to just wait for sale, which might be long, but it'll be worth it. It's not a bad game, but it is very dated and needs a remake for starters.
Or a sequel, if Ziggurat & Terminal secure a funding, which I hope they will. I want Rayne & Laura Bailey back, g0ddamnit!
7/10

This is a very fun game from my childhood. I had it on the OG Xbox, and I kind of like it more than the second, I know most prefer the second, but this one lets you shoot guns, it's far more challenging, we get to kill Nazi's. There's no combos but the movement is more skill based and lets you be a little more expressive in combat absent fatalities. Also Rayne is sexy so if none of what I said convinced you maybe that will.

Honestly, I was caught pretty off-guard with this game at first. It seemed a bit clunky and confusing where your objective was at times, but after a little bit, it just clicked. Sure, the combat is pretty simple, bosses can be cheesed, the movement can kinda suck a little bit but honestly I had alot of fun playing through it. The game becomes alot more easier on a 2nd playthrough, and is pretty short. I think its a hidden gem from the 6th gen. Its just pure simple fun.

after years of saying i wanna go back to PlayStation 2 games, i finally found this.. it's like a vampire Devil May Cry imo, and while game design is good, i don't think the content size justifies the storage size (this game would've been 3GB back in the day, let's be honest) which as no surprise leads to a bit of lag.. other than that, the premise is precisely the type of game i've wanted to play for years, so i can't complain.. i also think the voice acting is funny, very reminiscent of that era of PS2 games
A Dhampir in Nazi Lands
I never played it back in the day, but yesterday I completed it 100% on its hardest difficulty. And I can say it plainly: BloodRayne is a 2000s game, with all the good and bad that implies.
The premise is simple: we play as Rayne, a dhampir monster hunter who doesn’t just tear through supernatural creatures but also delights in shredding Nazis. It’s basically like putting Blade in World War II, only swapping his gender. And the formula works, if only for how absurd and cathartic it is.
The Plot and the Unshakable Mistake
The story is ok. It’s entertaining, functional, without too much ambition.
However, it drags along a serious historical error that really threw me off. Some might say “it’s an alternate universe” and use that as an excuse, but no: the error is still there, and it feels like an unnecessary stain on the narrative.
Other than that, the story is what it promises: vampires, monsters, Nazis, and violence. Nothing more, nothing less.
The Botched Cut: The PC Remaster
Here’s the bitter part. The Terminal Cut, this so-called “Ultimate Update,” is far from it.
The controls aged badly: stiff and unrefined.
The restored cutscenes look rather poor, as if they were just run through a cheap filter.
Some in-game scenes are locked at 30 FPS, and after playing at 60 or more, that was a real eyesore.
The interface is stuck in the 2000s, with no polish or proper HD updates.
I've done some research and found that this version of the game has CENSORED & CUTED content from the original.
The sad thing is that it basically feels like the same old game for what i have seen, just with minimal re-texturing. There’s no real intent to revitalize the experience.
The Console Contrast
And to make things worse, there’s another version that’s much better worked: ReVamped, released on consoles. That one actually takes advantage of the idea of a worthy relaunch and remaster. The contrast is unavoidable, and it leaves PC players feeling like we got a half-baked product.
Rhythm & Repetition
The soundtrack is a strong point: energetic, lively, with a rhythm that fits the action well.
Boss fights were fun, though some fall into repetition. Still, they’re among the most enjoyable parts of the game.
Overall, playing it was entertaining. It’s no masterpiece, but it has that 2000s charm that, despite its limitations, manages to hook you.
Conclusion
BloodRayne is a game that can be enjoyed, but this Terminal Cut does no justice to the original. It’s a decent pastime, but not an experience that stands out compared to other games from its era.
If you’re going to play it, do it for nostalgia, curiosity, or that decadent charm old hack & slash games have. But don’t expect too much from this port.
As for me, I’d only play the sequel just to see what it’s like, and because this one ends on a cliffhanger.
