Great FPS in a gorgeous, paradisiac island. Even years after its release, its visual achievements are impressive and extremely enjoyable. The AI of the enemies is really good, creating great encounters which will demand everything from you. Sadly, sometimes the action can get a little unfair, with some enemies that can see you from kilometers of distance and deal extreme amounts of damage. The arsenal is rich and the guns feel powerful and a joy to use. You have some vehicles which also are really fun to use. If you can deal with a little frustration from time to time, you'll be in fore a real fun and challenging adventure.

Best game growing up. Looks a bit shit now. Repetitive missions, however still lots of fun. Fuck that boat mission, though

Should someone give this game a try? Yes and No, but I am more weighed on the side of No.
First off, so far in the game I had to figure out a way to autosave anywhere I was, because I kept dying from how repetitive the NPC's were on medium and how much progress i'd lose if I died. The NPC's can somehow shoot through walls, and this game doesn't really let you go stealth mode when its very needed in some situations in the game. You could be as quiet as a mouse, crouching slowly and somehow the NPC can still SEE YOU, EVEN IF YOU'RE BEHIND THEM. The story also is kind of hard to follow for me because of how much time I am spending on some parts of the game and completely forget what I was even doing to begin with in certain parts. Will I still try to complete it? Yes. Am I having fun though? Not really.
If you're into challenging games even on easy mode, 2000s gaming and somewhat action and bugs, this might be a game for you.

I thought 'challenging' being the middle difficulty would mean a medium challenge, I struggled for so long, I had to start save scumming to get through everything after the halfway point. Admittedly still really fun, it's just so different from every far cry game, and obviously inspired by Crysis. I was also reminded of resident evil at some points, and the mutants weren't really helping. Quite frankly, only get this if you're wanting to beat every Far Cry game, or if you like Crysis-likes, since this one's pretty solid.

I just played through this old game again, it's still a great game after 21 years I think.

I really want to say something good, but this game is even on normal sooooo freaking hard, if you are not a 360 noscope pro, like every enemy. I wasnt able to finish it yet due to its difficulty. Im at a mission where everyone knows instanstly where i am even if i kill someone silently miles away from them. Thats why i sadly cant recommend it.

Crashes randomly at startup, NPCs see and shoot you through walls, auto saved checkpoints can leave you on a death loop.
The scenery is pretty though but that doesnt make it playable.

The steam version(v 1.4) of this game is broken where the enemies can see(huge issue because game relies you on being stealthy) you through the walls and also shoot you through the walls. There is some fix by downloading patches online if you decide to trust them but its not worth the effort anyway as it seems a small hasle from tutorials I found online on how to fix this.

Okay...(takes deep breath), this game is all over the place. I think the landscapes are gorgeous for being in a 2004 game, the responsiveness of the movement and gunplay is alright, and the cutscenes are so-bad-they're-good quality. BUT, certain mechanics make the game infuriating, to the point where I played this on normal yet it peeved me way more than Doom The Dark Ages which i just beat on Nightmare. One such mechanic is that many of the levels are orchestrated and mapped out as if you're meant to use stealth, yet there are no instakill melee attacks and the enemies will often know EXACTLY where you are without you even firing or seeing them yet. You can be crouching behind a guys back and he'll somehow know you're there, on top of that the enemies bullets can go through many materials and structures that they shouldn't be able to, such as most walls. Certain segments of the game are also incredibly unforgiving, where a single burst from any character will send you back to the savegame which the game does automatically, not allowing autosaves. I've played several older FPS's and even Half Life (1998) was much better developed and had much better gameplay with fewer aneurysm inducing moments than this. If you like older FPS's you might enjoy it way more than me, but I just had to vent.
