I fuckin love this game, lets put this out here. This game fits the QTE events that Mario and Luigi dream world held to itself very well! The little additions of the small rhythm games here and there are also nice, even if they aren't challenging. The only real big problem I have is the lack of audio queues between the timed attacks, but learning to look for a white flash is just what I do.
There's no doubt that this game, as well, is signifcantly more challenging than what it was based off of, with the speed of the timed attacks being much faster than any I could remember from dream world. The music as well, is great just as the real story is as well.

story premise tldr:
anti-capitalist girly pop luigi mangione-d her way through to dismantle hierarchical systems
on a serious note: this game is absolutely stunning! i admit that the real-time reactions in the game can register weirdly. i recommend anyone playing to set it to slow/slower for sanity's sake. the story itself can also be a little confusing as well as understanding the skill tree and the different buffs/debuffs. despite that, i still thoroughly enjoyed it. the banter between characters is fun, the unique visuals for various npcs, and the stunner soundtrack

This game is vastly underrated in my opinion. Combat is tons of fun, soundtrack is incredible! I personally love the rhythm aspects of combat. Makes this game really replayable! Definitely one of my top games on Steam at the moment!

fantastic story-telling plus a tall drink of water for the weary, apathetic gamer. the challenging yet approachable battle style beckons presence, coordination, and rhythm in a way that requires embodied awareness like i've never encountered before. when's the last time a game reminded you to activate your core muscles for better posture? hah! infinite thanks for this hidden gem of a game.

Keylocker is a work of art. It has cool themes, an interesting narrative, great dialogue, amazing art both in the sprites and portraits, and a killer soundtrack (as it should being a music themed game).
The writing is a huge selling point. Conversations between characters are fun and witty, and it's done so in a way that lets them be both serious and unserious at the same time. My biggest issue with it is that there are so many characters that you only get to talk to a few times, many of which are locked behind your starting class.
When I said the game is a work of art, I mean that in many ways. The spritework is extremely expressive and the soundtrack fits perfectly. Characters idle animations give them a lot of personality and in battle they'll change depending of their remaining health. The music is also dynamic and will change in battle when certain actions happen. Little story moments that you only notice were there on replay. Its those smaller details that really show how much care went into making it.
However, there were a lot of gripes I had playing. The majority of how combat works isn't explained very well if at all (WASD moves you in the G.R.I.D.S. and you can scroll back up text boxes if they go too fast btw). It felt like information overload trying to figure out how or why anything worked, even after beating the game. Unless you change the timing to the most generous setting action commands are extremely strict and not telegraphed in a way that is reactable on scan. There's also a lot of bugs including game slowing down during combat.
But to my original point, this is a work of art. I don't care if its not perfect, the flaws just kept reminding me how much effort goes into making a game and how nice it is to experience something some put some much time and effort into. I appreciate Keylocker for everything that it is. Something made by another human being.
And while yes, I may have refused the way of the samurai and have no honor, there is nothing that can stand in the way of my and Senpai's relationship, nothing! Not even the system can tear us apart. The string of fate that ties us together may be made of dough... but it's as sturdy as tungsten! It is fluffy, pure and true! It does not lie nor does it bend!!!
Also, you can pet the dog.

I want to like this game, the design of the world, the visuals and the music are all great however it is ruined by the combat system.
I am familliar with timed input mechanics in jrpg's and like the system however it is badly implemented in this game. The characters flash when you should press block however the window for this isnt when the attack would land which would be intuitive but midway through the attack animation which is different for every character and attack.
The window to time a hit or block is also extremely small so you have to learn the animations and anticipate the indicator because if you wait to for the flash its too late, theres not enough time to get the input in, its just that short of a window. This makes encounters frustrating and means all encounters with new enemy types that have moves you havent seen before will likely have to be repeated once youve learned their moves because a perfect block negates all damage but missing the timing results in huge damage, the system needs to either be slightly more generous in the timing and adjust when the input should occur in the animation to be more intuitive or reduce the penalty for missing. Its a terrible, frustrating level of difficulty not a well-implemented one. I like dark souls, i like learning fights but that only works when the mechanics are intuitive, well implemented and support that vision properly.
The rythm game input system for your moves is also jarring, the actual flow of the mechanic is bad and so is the associated sound effect, it doesnt flow with the in game music it just feels like a wonky QTE thats been slapped in. Its a shame, the game looks promising but the easilly rectified flaws in the main systems ruin it for me.

Incredibly underrated for a game with only 144 reviews. I enjoyed Virgo Versus The Zodiac and figured Keylocker would be just as great if not better, and I did end up liking this game more. The interactive RPG combat system from Virgo has been improved and now features a tile map during combat, which makes it even more involved. I liked the aesthetics, the story is alright, although I REALLY HATED one of the endings. There's a lot of variation in how you build your characters, upgrade their skills and change their equipment, selecting different character paths even changes the story and that is a lot of effort for a game that is far from being short to complete. The soundtrack is flames (shoutout to The Eternal Dome in particular).
