GRID Legends stands out as a thrilling and ambitious racing game that tries to blend intense competitive driving with a surprisingly narrative-driven single-player experience. Developed by Codemasters, the game expands on the legacy of the GRID franchise by introducing a broad range of vehicles, varied tracks, and a more cinematic presentation that aims to bring motorsport drama to life. With its combination of solid racing mechanics, diverse modes, and a fresh approach to storytelling, GRID Legends offers a compelling package for both casual players and racing enthusiasts, though it’s not without some rough edges. At the core of GRID Legends is its driving experience, which strikes a satisfying balance between accessibility and depth. The handling model leans toward arcade-style fun rather than full simulation, making it approachable for newcomers, but it still rewards mastery and precise control. Cars feel distinct on the tarmac, whether you’re pushing a nimble formula car around tight corners or throttling a powerful muscle car down long straights. The physics and vehicle feedback contribute to a visceral sensation of speed and impact, which is enhanced by detailed sound design that captures engine roars, tire screeches, and track ambiance. The AI is generally competent, offering a reasonable challenge without feeling unfair, though it can sometimes behave unpredictably, especially in chaotic multi-car races. One of the most notable features of GRID Legends is its Story Mode, which attempts to blend racing action with a dramatic narrative arc. The story revolves around rival drivers and team dynamics, filled with moments of tension, camaraderie, and high stakes. Featuring full-motion video cutscenes with recognizable actors, the narrative adds emotional context to the races, a bold move uncommon in racing games. While some players may find the story engaging and a nice change of pace, others might feel the plot occasionally slips into clichés and that the pacing can interrupt the racing flow. Still, this cinematic approach brings a new flavor to the genre, providing motivation beyond just winning races. The game’s breadth of content is impressive. GRID Legends offers an extensive roster of vehicles ranging from touring cars and open-wheel racers to trucks and electric vehicles, each with unique handling characteristics and visual flair. The tracks are equally varied, featuring real-world circuits like Brands Hatch and fictional city courses with dynamic weather and day-night cycles that influence racing conditions. The inclusion of events like demolition derbies and head-to-head knockout races adds to the variety, keeping gameplay fresh and exciting. Multiplayer modes are robust, featuring both competitive and cooperative experiences, and the matchmaking system generally works well to create balanced races. Visually, GRID Legends impresses with vibrant, detailed car models and well-crafted environments that bring each track to life. The lighting effects, especially during night races and in adverse weather, add a cinematic polish that heightens immersion. Replays and photo mode allow players to appreciate the game’s graphical fidelity and the artistry of motorsport. However, some performance issues have been reported on lower-end systems, and occasional bugs like texture pop-in or minor clipping can momentarily break immersion. The user interface is sleek and functional, though newcomers might need a short adjustment period to navigate menus efficiently. The audio design deserves special mention, with a dynamic soundtrack that adapts to race intensity, complemented by authentic engine sounds and spot-on environmental effects. Commentary during races provides additional atmosphere and helps bring the competitive spirit to life, though it can sometimes feel repetitive. The game also supports a range of peripherals, including steering wheels and pedals, which significantly enhance the driving experience for players seeking realism. Despite its many strengths, GRID Legends is not without flaws. Some players might find the difficulty spikes uneven, particularly in certain championship events where AI aggression ramps up sharply. The story mode, while innovative, may not appeal to everyone, especially those who prefer racing games purely for the sport rather than narrative. Additionally, the progression system can feel a bit grindy, requiring repeated event completions to unlock all cars and customization options, which might frustrate some users. In summary, GRID Legends delivers a compelling mix of exciting racing gameplay, diverse content, and a unique narrative approach that distinguishes it from many other racing titles. Its approachable yet rewarding driving mechanics, coupled with impressive visuals and sound, create a captivating motorsport experience that caters to a wide audience. While it struggles occasionally with pacing in its story mode and some technical hiccups, the game’s ambition and overall quality make it a worthy addition to the racing genre. Fans of fast-paced racing looking for both thrills on the track and a touch of drama off it will find much to enjoy in GRID Legends. Rating: 7/10

This is a solid installment in the GRID franchise. The graphics and visuals are amazing and the audio just as well-designed. The story mode is engaging and there are countless events to participate in outside of the campaign itself. Vehicle handling feels great and tuning, upgrading, and customization options are varied. There are plenty of track locations, each feeling very realistic and true to life (London, Paris, Yokohama, Dubai, among many others). Overall, a solid title and would highly recommend for fans of the franchise as well as those looking to break into it.

Awesome game! Now that I'm 43 years old I finally came to the conclusion that I like arcade racing more than I like sim racing. I tried it, with steering wheel and all, liked the so called 'realism'.. it was cool... but I'm tired of it to be honest. This game looks stunning, has a cool and chill vibe and is just a lot of fun. And that's just what gaming is all about, it reminded me of my first racing games as a child, yes on the Commodore 64! but also those first need for speed's on PC, priceless. However nowadays it all became too real and serious. Maybe this sounds like an old man, I'm sorry, but I am. Time is limited with young kids you know and then this is just perfect gaming... ;-)
