Well, I played this again after some updates have improved the game. This is recommended on sale. The good stuff: - diverse environments - good controls - finishes before it wears out its welcome - metroidvania feel - the humour in the game is silly but not juvenile The bad stuff: - A lack of visual indication for damage (the sprite should flicker for a short while after taking damage) - movable sprites can be placed into walls and ceilings - very simple English and at least three typos - minor glitches (all the gamebreaking ones have been fixed thankfully) - No indicator on the map which room the player is in Overall, a good first game by Pikku-a that is held back by low production value. Looking forward to Pikku-a's next game which I expect will be better.

It's really short and there are some questionable sprites and platforming. But it has great potential, both story itself and mechanics.

This is a VERY good game that will unfortunately ( probably ) be lost in the sea of platformers.

A mini metroidvania worth a dollar or 2 for an hour of your time. Hope the Devs release a bigger and more ambitious sequence, because this shoort one worked pretty well overall.

There's a whole host of niggling little problems with this otherwise medriocre, tiny, atari-style metroidvania. Map doesn't show your location, so it's hard to keep track of where you are. Text is BIG and takes some time to skip through. The button to read is the same button to jump, causing you to accidentally read stuff. Music is nothing to write home about but it's not the worst of its kind either. This game isn't hooking me in.

A really cute minivania. Some minor platforming challenges, some light puzzles, and bosses that you're more likely to one shot than anything else unless you arrive with love health. Not much in the way of secrets, just some optional pickups for the "secret" ending (that ironically is the one most players get and don't come back for the others, though it is definitely the "right" choice and the game outright tells you to get it) and coins which are there for no real reason (they respawn whenver you re-enter a room, along with enemies). If you really care a lot for you bang for your buck, it is pretty short game (replayed once to get all endings, and even faffed around a bit hoping for a different ending) and doesn't really cross the "dollar per hour" some players expect even during sales. But if you're a Metroidvania fan and want a short and sweet experience, this will make you smile. Worse thing that can happen is you hate it and end up refunding, but I think you'll think the experience earns Pikku-a a reward for their efforts.

(Follow my curator for more reviews like this) Very short metroidvania platformer, but decent fun while it lasts. It only took me 40 minutes to finish (and I got the good ending that requires you to find 4 items) so I'd recommend to pick it up on a sale. You play as an enlarged atom created by Dr. Atominus, who is sick and needs to make a cure from an enlarged atom. Of course, you don't want to die so you run away and try to escape the laboratory! The game controls decently, your atom moves very fast and reacts instantly to your keyboard inputs, so it never feels like the controls are working against you... unlike some other indie platformers. Initially you can only run and jump, but later you will acquire a double jump, a wall jump, and a shooting skill, which are all used to enter previously inaccessible areas. Overall it's a very simple game, the like of which you might have found on Newgrounds over a decade ago, but it's pretty fun and the short length means it never gets tedious or boring. According to the achievements there are three different endings, so the game has a bit of replay value if you want to see all three.

Exactly what is says on the can. Small, but pretty diverse. The story is fun. Utilises the good old enemy stomping mechanic, which is rarely seen these days.

What I liked: -The 8-bit aesthetic -Dialogue was delightful =) -Music was good -Keyboard-only controls are OK What I didn't like: -The story isn't very deep -I completed all the achievements in 1.5 hours. Conclusion: To support the creator, I'm not going to refund the game and I'll give a recommendation. However, be the judge if you believe paying $5.69 CDN is worth completing everything in 1.5 hours.

While it isn't complete garbage, Dr. Atominus is in no way worth the price of admission. If you want to play a minimalist metroidvania, Moonlaw offers a very similar experience (including some of the same problems) and is absolutely free. The biggest (only) redeeming factor to Dr. Atominus is the rather silly epilogue that offers a slightly more challenging area than the rest of the game that is one room long, but that doesn't make up for bland design, bland abilities, and bland writing. If you've played any metroidvania before, there is nothing here that you haven't seen done before, and have almost certainly seen done better. I can only recommend passing on this game.
