For starters, this is quite a linear platformer, not a metroidvania.
There big checkpoints indicating a shift in the "level" and sometimes mini checkpoints which you can get a save point. The goal is to collect three "souls" which act as keys for the next level. Without them, you can't move on. So within the level you must pick up the souls and come back to the exit to move on.
There are no permanent upgrades. Just "powerups" to pick up with one time use like double jump. The problem lies with the time rewind power up. There was hardly a tutorial on it and when it expects you to use it, it expects you to use it the right way. If not, it doesn't respawn again and your only option is suicide and restart from the checkpoint.
There are tons of bugs in the game and for the most part the platforming is extremely clunky and frustrating. The hitboxes are broken and the actual platforming is really easy. The biggest "obstacle" the game uses are these slow spikes that pop out of the ground and it's not even hard to avoid but really annoying because it takes like 5-10 seconds of waiting to clear each one. The floating red ball hitbox is not accurate. The rat hitbox is not accurate either.
There is also an annoying jump where if you jump on ground level, it sometimes does the slow animation as if i dropped from a cliff which has killed me a few times.
After about 1 hour of gameplay I reached a point where the area I was in was extremely slow in progression with no checkpoint and at the end with no clear way to go and with the slow and frustrating mechanics I did not want to explore and test the routes since going the wrong way meant suicide and time wasted due to having to pick up power ups again etc.
Sure, there are some "secrets" to pick up but due to the unpolished game and frustrating gameplay I didn't care about them past a certain point. It's unclear if it's even working the way the developer intended.
I wanted to give the game a chance since I love metroidvanias...but alas this is not one. And it's not polished and looks more like a flash game.
