I'm sorry but the characters move way too slow. Your better off playing something else.

I had lots of fun on the plot and the gameplay :D stands out in parody and fun, but might disappoint who is expecting an innovating beat-em-up game. Sometimes the 2d vector style isn't the best for genre in 2020, but it's still enjoyable. And the minigames are a mix of hard as hell and rotfl.

Stays true to the original with self aware comedy, I'm still waiting for punishing parts of the map to fall apart and torture me though. That's a huge part of the original fun.

Pretty fun couch co-op with an interesting art style and good production quality. I only just started playing this with a friend, but so far I'm happy with it. I'm only vaguely aware of the 90s games though - I never actually played them myself.
The art and animations are really well done. They look like they came straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon. The writing and voice acting is also pretty good. It manages to be genuinely hilarious with its humor.
Gameplay wise it's a fairly standard beat em up, but the uniqueness of the animations makes it stand out a bit.
I really like that it's designed for 3 players, but you don't need a full 3 players because it still lets you switch the unused character(s) in/out during gameplay. So if you're playing with a 2nd player and someone does, they can immediately rejoin as the third playable character. Or if you're by yourself and your head is getting low you can swap to a different character on the fly.
Overall I would rate it like 8/10.

What the hell is Rare doing? Has any of the devs not played either "OpenBOR" or any of the SNES or SEGA Genesis action/beat-em-ups before? Such games as "Final Fight" for SNES, "Streets Of Rage" for SEGA Genesis, even "River City Ransom" for NES are just a few good examples of how to make a "beat-em-up" game. Even "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Shredder's Revenge" played so much better than this game. Plus, to top it off, how is it that the old arcade version of this game is better than all the "BattleToads" games that have ever come out, and yet has never made it's way to any console or even as a remake. except through emulation?
The game itself is very clunky at best. The way they designed the characters and animations, I would almost swear they made this game using Macromedia Flash. The controls are just all wrong. Why do I need to hold a button down just to press another button to perform an action? You literally have to hold a button down and then press an action button just to use the "tongue" ability. What's up with that? You couldn't configure each action for a different button, so you designed an action that requires holding a button and then pressing another button to use an action? Plus, for a game should be simple to play, they made this game more complicated than it needs to be. This should be just a few simple buttons, not an over complicated action game. Every other beat-em-up game was just 1 button for attack, one button jump, and one button for a misc. ability. Plus, for something that only uses sprites for animations, why is this game over 10 gigs?
I get that they were trying to do something different with this game and make it not like the other games, but it's not like all the other games play any differently. Despite how much a lot of the other beat-em-up games are the same, I still enjoy them because of it, even if they all play the same way. But for a game that uses way too many additional abilities, it shouldn't be this bad. If you really want us to buy one of your games, why not bring back "Battletoads - Arcade Version"? That I will gladly buy as that was your best version of the game.
The only good thing about this game was that I got this game for 90% off.

A fun game that is enough of a throwback to the original and has its own identity with really nice animation, good meta comedy, and (for the most part) good levels. There's a lot of complaints about this not being a straight up Beat em Up, but there is plenty of that in the first half of the game. It does stray away from that pretty hard around the end of the game, but the levels and different styles are done relatively well. My only real complaint about this game is the length of each level, most of them feel like a drag once they get to the last portion. You kinda just want them to end already, that and some of the mini stuff feels a bit derivative and pointless. All in all a good game that's underrated and overhated imo
PS: it reminds me of something that you'd see on Cartoon Network in the 2000s. Really loved the comedy style and delivery here

This games not bad, its got a lot of different play styles and a decent amount of difficulty, while still being very casual. The writing is pretty corny, and the game is kind of short. Overall i give it 5.8 out of 10. I recommend this game for 3 dollars or less.

I give it a 7 out of 10. The humor won't land with everyone (it makes me yell "YOUTHS" a lot and shake my fist at a cloud as an old man) but the game is a lot of fun. Act III in the campaign is a bit stretched out for my liking. There is no built in online co op for some reason which is borderline criminal.
