The sega genesis spirit is great in this one!
Dezatopia is one of those games i wish attracted more attention, because it manage to do what it aim to do incredibly right! The game is quite chaotic, but not overly so and is quite generous in term of life, continue and other option, thanks in part to the shop system that appear often when you need it the most. the gameplay is also interesting, as all your weapon are usable all at once, but the less you use the more powerdul the rest get and the stronger the unused weapon are once used again, doubly so as each correspond to the 4 direction of your ship.
The game also looks great, giving a 'Treasure' feel in many parts, and there's alot to offer here : one singular route contain enough content for a full game, but there's alot of route available, all sharing about 20+ stages in total, making it perfect for a quick play without feeling overwhelming, and make it easier to want to give it another go shuld you fail a run. The variety at play is also great, both in stages and bosses, and it all kinda feel like a more manic thunderforce game in part.
The only 'minus' i can give is the non-existant story...well there IS one but you have to slowly unlock it finding secret token everywhere. you will wonder why most bosses are fluffy being and why the big bad is your...boss somehow? But it's not a problem here, it fits the chaotic arcady feel even. Just noting as it's the only part that feels less polished in contrast to the rest of the game.
All in all, it's one of my favorite shmup period in recent years, and i don't say that lightly. If you enjoy retro horizontal shmup, i highly recommend giving a chance to this!
