Simple and silly. What you see is what you get. Worth it even at full price honestly.

Positives: the controls are good, theres a high variety of weapons, parts and equipment, i really liked the story of the campaign, enemy types are varied and their introduction has a good pacing both in narrative and gameplay, the voice acting is fine, the mission design is alright and drop rates are fair.
Negatives: the graphics options are very limited, the UI could use some more polishing, the huge loot table with fair drops means that its very hard to get a specific weapon or part you want, missions dont have a speech log so a couple of times i've had to restart a mission because in the heat of the battle i missed something in the dialog and the thing that bothers me the most is that the storyline is far from finished, even with the DLC mankind is still far from either victory or defeat and the DLC just added even more unawnsered questions.
Overall i enjoyed it a lot and fell like the game is very worth it for its price but it would be even better if the storyline would continue and some of the issues were to get ironed out.

So imagine if armored core played similarly to a rogue-like and it was $20. That is basically what this game is.
I am a HUGE fan of Armored Core 6 and this game definitely takes some inspiration from it. The loop of killing an army of horrific looking flesh creatures in your epic mech whilst the world wages war against each other is pretty cool ngl, and for an indie game the voice acting is pretty good. Not amazing, but not unbearable. There are a few small issues though. You run out of energy very fast and it takes ages to refill so you end up having to rely on the batteries on the ground. The same can be said about ammo and health but that isn't as annoying. You aren't helpless when your energy runs out but it can leave you in a tricky situation. Another small issue in the game is a lack of aerial combat, however I don't think it was in the creators vision and it really isn't needed. For $20, this game is pretty great. good for people who can't afford armored core 6.

I'd say get it on sale, but I sure had a good time for the 6 hours it took me to run out of things to do after trying the endless waves once. Campaign story is pretty simple, but not bad honestly.

Mecha Knights is what you get if you combine Earth Defense Force with Armored Core, plus a dose of post apocalyptic anime aesthetic (eg Evangelion and Nier Automata). The result is as cool as it sounds. It's an underrated gem, and for me does some things even better than its inspirations.
EDF, while great fun, wasn't ideal for me in how extremely grindy it becomes in the late game with bottlenecking gatcha mechanics (random item pickups you have to manually collect in missions - the higher difficulty the mission, the higher chance of better items). Mecha knights does use the same mechanic, but it's much less frustrating here because the pacing is faster. I prefer a game I can progress through in a handful of hours without repetitive grinding, and this delivers.
With Armored Core, I found the difficulty punishingly tough and it stopped me from being able to enjoy it as a chill experience - Mecha Knights certainly delivers challenge, but the extreme level of AC is only to be found if you go looking for it with the highest difficulty settings. I love to be able to play games with strong aesthetics in a more relaxed way so I can focus on enjoying the visuals and the story. The visuals in particular are really impressive for a solo dev, and optimised a lot better than many other indie titles - I played through the whole campaign with barely a frame drop - no bugs or crashes either.
I'm surprised this game isn't getting more hype - if you like scifi, action or mechs, Mecha Knights is guaranteed to be a great time!

This game is good. Very good. But it's no Armored Core, if you came here after an AC high and wanted to find something similar.
It's more like an even more indie version of Earth Defense Force, where you only use a mech and fight aliens who aren't bugs. So expect a similar level of graphics and a little bit of jank. And it's not going to be realistic either.
Despite the small budget it's a very fun game. The mech feels awesome to control, the guns and explosion feel powerful and there's a good variety of guns and parts to choose from.
The mech can get very fast and it's a lot of fun to slide around at top speed sideways while gunning down your enemies.
Where the game truly shines is when it's played with the MGR soundtrack in the background. Then it becomes a transcendental experience. At that moment it is peak entertainment.
The base music isn't bad per se, but it's generic.
The voice acting is kinda funny. It's played seriously, but the voice Ethan's voice actor makes when delivering lines turns it a borderline comedy/parody. It can be enjoyable.
The dialogue isn't very interesting though. Just average sounding military speak and occasional banter. There are some cliches and tropes present.
The ending feels abrupt. That's because mission 20 is the last one in the base game 21-27 are DLC. Take that however you want.
I hope they make a sequel with a bigger budget someday. I might even buy the dlc just to encourage it.
There are a couple of things that I would like to see changed however. Since many of your more useful abilities use cash "as ammunition", it's sometimes difficult to make enough during a mission to unlock upgrades.
And there are so many upgrades, which are super expensive. I finished the game with only 1 rank upgraded in all of them and Active/Passive modules unlocked fully. I finished the game without knowing that I could upgrade my army as well. I've upgraded them 0 times and their upgrades are also just as expensive.
I suggest at least quadrupling the money rewards. Or more. It's a relatively short game that's not very replayable, so it shouldn't be structured like something that people are expected to grind.
And lose the ability costs. The in universe army/government should be paying for those. There's no reason the captain would be paying out of his pocket. It's ridiculous.
So yes, I recommend it. It's a fun indie mech game where you get to slide around very fast while gunning down and exploding hoards of monsters.

A fun little indie game for sure. Interesting mechanics and loads of fun. Even more importantly, big guns on mechas, my two favourites!
Voice lines are rather cringely written and definitely could'be been done better, but then again I am not exactly here for the dialogue to begin with. :P
Action: 9/10
Music: 8/10
Voice acting/lines: 4/10
Graphics: 7/10
I give this game an 8.5-9/10 if you take the voice lines out as a factor. Action is solid and so is the game itself. Not encountered any bugs, glitches or otherwise other issues.

Being a fan of most of the games mentioned in the intro video, on the store page, I will keep this game.
1. Controls are ok in my book.
2. Decent story, good to see the devs didn't turn to mercs for the pilot...or worse...
3. A good amount of weapons and parts for some variety, but alot of it is very similar and only stats change slightly. They will need to address this to get more players to buy AND keep this game for more than two hours...

This was like playing Ace Combat 5 again for the first time to me. Sure, it's practically a 1 man passion project with a budget that'd probably make even a slav dev cry, but damn it doesn't have any crazy feature creep and excels at developing a compelling gameplay loop with a simple enough story that actually delivers more gravitas without trying to be deep or pretentious.
Do yourself a favor, skip one or two starbucks or a single fast food meal, and pick this up. This game is greater than the sume of its parts. The story isn't anything to write home about but it's cohesive and the gameplay reminds me of old ace combat games in terms of objectives, almost to a T, wrapped in an armored core package with horde mode mow-them-down horde satisfaction+ upgrades and other stuff.
I will be immediately buying the DLCs because of how silly fun this was. It's rare I can sit down and blast through an entire game in one sitting or have the actual URGE to do so, but I basically did this with mecha knights. I haven't had this kind of experience in a video game in close to a decade and what the hell are we actually playing video games for if not that kind of experience.
Edit: The ONLY thing that I dislike is that I cannot turn off DOF/Antialiasing. It hurts my eyes for prolonged playtimes even when I'm rendering it at 4k resolution lol. I would adore any change that lets me disable motion blur, AA, and DOF. Also some weapons are just....bad. Good weapons are generally great but there's quite a few that require a lot of dedicated building to be okay.
