I really like the idea of the game and I've enjoyed playing it one-player. The multitasking of solving a jigsaw puzzle while playing a traditional top-down shooter works really well.
The variety of characters is more interesting than I originally expected... some of them really seem to require different styles of play.
After about four hours of playing, I've beat the first three tours with one character each, but I'm not having much luck on the fourth one.
The handicapping feature didn't work for two player as well as I'd hoped.... the newer person started with extra pieces, but they were likely to lose them early by getting hit repeatedly. Other adjustments that might be helpful are increasing the amount of "invincible" time after being hit, or increasing/decreasing the quantity of attacks that get sent over when a piece is placed.

Really liking this game, a fun take of a VS puzzle game, take a bit of learning to both get down shooting and trying to put together a puzzle at the same time, I think its a fun challenge and feel encuraged to get better!

Feels like a time machine into an old Japanese arcade parlor, maybe even just a single machine gathering dust in an odd shop off the main roads.
Weird concept, weird execution - and I kinda dig it.
I feel liek the game should have a speed modifier to zing it up a bit.
NeoGeo- esque presentation ( if you ever played something like Panel de Pon, this will feel famaliar)
You shoot em up in a vertical setting on your half of the screen, collect gems - and avoid taking damage.
When you fill up the meter in the center of the screen, you get a capsule - which will contain a puzzle piece ( or a powerup or an enemy, there's a bunch of things it can spit out )
You then collect the puzzle piece, and find the spot on the board it belongs by moving it with your ship and rotating it with L and R o( on a controller, feels natural to )
if you take damage, you lose a piece - it goes to opponent's side - and if they don't have that one already - they can place it. If they have that piece, it turns into gems.
Few modes, an Arcade single player - Online, and remote play together compatible and also some other stuff you can check out if ya feel.
it's cute and a neat idea - I just wish it was a lot faster.

Amazing little game that I'm so glad I found out about. Vertical shooter mixed with a jigsaw puzzle? Will that work? Really? YES, yes it does!
Great SNES/Retro visuals and soundtrack are just icing on the cake!
Get this game!
EDIT: Would love some updates/DLC for it!!

Super fun puzzle game, I've never been super into smups but spark and sparkle's added puzzle mechanic makes it so much more enjoyable. Very fun with friends too. I look forward to any updates that may come out

I really like Spark & Sparkle. The puzzle mechanic is great, and makes you feel personally invested when you get hit and lose a piece you spent time placing. It also incentivizes screen-peeking to try and find where the puzzle pieces are meant to go, which adds challenge. The art is all very well done, and I love the character designs.
The only thing I wish was improved about the game is how there's no enemy chaining. The game's clearly inspired by the Neo Geo game "Twinkle Star Sprites", but in that game when you killed an enemy, any other enemies caught in its blast radius would get killed. That doesn't happen in Spark & Sparkle, so what you end up with is Twinkle Star Sprites style enemy patterns but you can only kill a single enemy at a time, making them more of an annoyance than in TSS. If this could be patched in I think the game would be perfect.

Really fun VS Shoot'em up with a twist.
The chaotic combination of puzzle solving and STG gameplay makes for very tense and exciting situations where matches can easily flip from one players advantage to another in a flash.
Art style and soundtrack are fantastic in an adorable cutesy way.

this game is unbelievably fun!! it's easy to pick up but always stays challenging - sometimes with arcade-style games like this i start to get bored playing single player once i get the hang of things but i think i'll be having fun with this one for a long time. totally a must-have for cute 'em up fans, especially if you also like puzzle games!
