The UI is excellent, and making lowpoly models like that also so visually appealing is not an easy thing to do. This game has a lot of potential. Combat needs some work though, as it currently lacks depth. I'd like to see more tactical abilities as both classes. But ultimately, I am looking forward to seeing that developed further. The other two class icons in character creation also pique my interest. Story also needs some work. It feels a bit generic right now. Not bad, just has room for improvement. Overall, I think after a bit of development, this game will be worth its price tag. Update on review as of 7/4/21: Game hasn't really added depth. Storyline still missing, quests are grindy and uninspired, combat is still just two classes with a generic skill pool. Looks good, but isn't. Not recommended until significant updates are made.

I think this game is heavily underrated. I see excellent potential and an overall good game hiding here. Pros The game has a fun combat and progression dynamic. Cons there is frustratingly little content in this game I had a blast playing it non stop for five hours but now I can't go back until there is more game. Overall give this game time to update. But if you can buy the game now show some love to the dev/ devs. so they understand people are interested. This game once done could be a solid 8/10 game. Best wishes.

While this game is not for everyone, overall it is a diamond in the rough. The good: Dragon Extinction is a great dungeon crawler/loot game. The combat is simple enough that it is easy to grasp, while still posing enough of a challenge to be fun. It's a perfect game to play with friends. The art/design of the game has it's own unique charm and the music is excellent. Although incomplete currently, the crafting/material grinding for better weapons/armor is fulfilling and gives replaying missions a purpose. There is a wide variety of armor/weapons to choose from and there are multiple colors of dyes to customize your items with, adding a fun extra element to hunting for loot during missions. The current developer has been very responsive when glitches are reported and works towards improving them asap. Major updates for the game are slow, but they are still steadily happening. The bad: the combat is quite repetitive (especially during solo gameplay) and one will find themselves waiting on move cooldowns to be able to take on groups of enemies. The enemies are very strong/tank-like at lower/mid levels, making certain missions take ages to complete. Enemy NPCs are also very predictable, making fights less exciting. Solo gameplay overall just isn't as fun as playing with a group, mainly because the combat will take so long to complete. While the missions are generally enjoyable and there are new missions being added, there isn't enough variety yet. The maps get reused and exploration becomes pointless once you know where everything is. The main town where your character goes between missions feels incomplete. The town is large, but invisible walls keep you at the town center for now. Something that will be changed in the future no doubt, but those I have played with so far all feel disappointed at the lack of exploration currently. Weapon/armor grinding takes major time and dedication. Not necessarily a bad thing, but the option to upgrade current gear or the ability to craft high-end gear that is class-appropriate is not yet implicated. Again, this game is a diamond in the rough. It holds a tremendous amount of potential and I am quite excited to see where it goes. The development is understandably slow at the moment due to the fact that there aren't many people working on the game, but updates are still happening steadily and input from the gaming community for Dragon Extinction is being implemented. Don't buy this game if you are looking for intense combat and an open world to explore, but do buy this game if you want a laid-back dungeon crawler where you can work towards your own goals over time and get tons of cool loot to boot. This game is a lot more fun with friends and the group I played with had an absolute blast. Definitely a game worth trying.

This really nailed the basics for me as a gamer. Understanding, this is still in early access, I have been delighted with every moment I have spent on this game. Very good level progression with enough equipment to satisfy my customization need. The worlds are bigger than the mission area which allows for some brief exploring for materials required to upgrade gear. The soundtrack is worth listening to, it definitely helps with the immersion. The requirement to grind for materials to upgrade gear is very true to this game, which does satisfy my requirement to get ready for 'end game' content which is in the works to be released. Developers appear to be making changes constantly, always improving the game play. I have also been extremely happy with the games online community so far. This game was worth every penny to me.

I paid into Dragon Extinction during crowdfunding because I loved the concept and the story. I've had a lot of fun playing it, but it is still pretty early in development. I have seen a lot of progress in a short amount of time so I expect the game will continue to get better as time goes on. However, the game hasn't implemented the story yet and in my opinion it needs more dragons.

I don't usually do reviews so I'll keep this simple. Do I recommend the game? Yes. However, for a certain type of person would this game be for. Ask yourself do you like a game where you will need to grind a lot, and I mean a lot. If your answer is yes then this game is for you. If no then maybe pass on this one. Game is getting updates and it's in Early Access. But there is enough there to give fun and enjoyment. The game is a lot better when you're playing with others. Game does have some bugs but a lot is reported and gets fixed over time. Developer is active in discord and is always open to feedback and suggestions. There isn't any story as of yet, it's mainly grinding levels for materials to craft new and better stuff, or getting lucky to get good drops. There is some min/max that can take place but if grinding is your style of game this is what you should get. I like it, it's a solid game. If you have any questions just ask but it's worth it imo. I'll rate the game at this very moment 7/10 and I can see it increasing in the future. Thanks for reading, hopefully it helped someone. Take care.

Past lvl 10, this game has terrible balance. If you're not playing a mage, don't expect to have fun or be viable, and even that doesn't feel good in the clunky-ness of this game. It doesn't feel fun to play or experience. Combat is garbage, creator has promised changes nearly 2 years ago with nothing in sight. Movement options feel slow, controls feel slow. Small slopes catch your character, making them stuck, invisible walls where they really shouldn't be. Game is unhealthy. Only one update in the entire year of 2023... about dialogue options in town. EDIT: It appears the VR version gets very sparse updates that this version doesn't get. This version has been abandoned. That being said, I still revisit it every so often for a laugh while i'm drunk. 0/10, Crowdsourced cash grab. P.S. In case you think i'm hating for the that comment, the developer's Trello is public: https://trello.com/c/vZLk0sEW/33-improve-combat . Last combat note was made in 2020. No forward progress made on the game in the past 6 months in the slightest.

Things that needs to be addressed : - COMBAT. It sucks so much that is simply NOT FUN. There is less emphasis on actual player skill and more emphasis on GEAR and PLAYER LEVEL. If you try to do quests 5 level above you lets say 4 Star quests recommended level is between 20-30 therefore you will be crushed. I tried to do 1 four star quest on level 15 with mage and NOT ONLY I HIT LIKE A WET STINKING SOCK but I die in 2 hits. They simply have too much HP and DAMAGE. Bullet sponges. Run out of mana potions. Enemies DON'T HAVE the same stamina rules or even mana pools. They can and WILL SPAM abilities while you will run around for MANA REGEN because you WILL RUN OUT OF POTIONS. To make matters worse they will dodge your abilities ( they seem to have PERFECT I FRAMES ) and will SPRINT towards you ALL THE TIME ( yet player is limited to how long he / she can sprint ). Speaking about dodging it is simply inconsistent. Half of the time I will get hit. Sometimes I will get clipped in the beginning of the dodge sometimes in the middle and occasionally at the end. It doesn't matter what armor you are wearing because everyone has the same SLOW dodge speed and Distance. [strike] Some enemies have HOMING ATTACKS like fireballs or ICE SHARDS... while the player's abilities doesn't home. They just simply fly in straight line to the feet of the enemy. What happens when you are on the bottom of the hill and aim dead center at the enemy your fireball will hit the hill. It won't fly up to hit the torso NO. It will miss. EVERY TIME. [/strike] *EDIT Homing spells has been slightly nerfed. Magic is simply WHICH COLOR of the animations do you like. Remember Mass Effects 3 Ending? Yeah the same stuff here. Fireball doesn't cause burning, ice shard doesn't slow or freeze, thunder zap doesn't spread to other enemies and worst of all there is no synergy with elements. Say for example you can cast water bomb and then for extra damage use thunder element... yeah NOT IN THIS GAME. Everything flies to the feet of the enemy and causes small aoe.[strike] Heal spells DON'T HEAL YOU and the range is so tiny that A LOT OF TIMES I CAN'T EVEN HEAL MY FRIENDS LOL. Bugs? [/strike] *Edit Healing has been fixed! Nice. Melee is so bad I don't even know where to start. Camera is WAY TO CLOSE! Especially when blocking or locked on. That being said WHY MY CHARACTER MOVES LIKE A TURTLE WHEN LOCKED ON?! WHAT IS THIS BS. Enemies can SPRINT towards me but when I lock on I WALK. Therefore I DON'T EVEN USE LOCK ON since without it I can actually run and sprint if I need to get away and heal. There is no cool combos and some weapons are better than others. Two handed swords hit harder and faster plus they have nice AOE range. While maces and axes are just bad. They don't cause STUNS or BLEEDING effects and their animations are often slower plus damage weaker. Spears are the worst. Your character moves like a tank. Sluggish movement, sluggish animations. No weight behind the attacks, hitboxes are laughable and inconsistent getting stuck ON EVERYTHING small hills, tree stumps, small rocks, fire pits.... Blocking results in taking damage but reduced, dodging is inconsistent and you can easily get INTERRUPTED or STUN LOCKED ( well knock locked? ) and one more thing I REALLY HATE INPUT QUEUE. If you press dodge and then 1 for spell your character will do dodge and then do the attack... I would rather have a way to cancel some attacks or inputs. I also think that the character should always face forward. Just like in lock on. After that adding different animations and lenghts of weapons would help greatly to make combat more ACTIVE rather than waiting for cooldowns of skills. Each weapon type should have a either special attack or some sort of attribute. Axes damage through shields, Swords cause bleeding, hammer can stun every 2-3 rd attack. Adding skills for each weapon type would also make the combat more diverse and add options to the player to deal with difficult situations. I would also like to see weapon swaps ( have two weapons equipped and swap between 2h and 1h and shield for example. ) What positive I can say is that the game looks good and dungeons are nicely packed with objects and points of interests. Open world maps however are a MESS. You could be going to the boss and then you start your attack, half way through even though you are in the same place TWO COUGARS or some BANDITS and WOLVES show up OUT OF NOWHERE. I mean they were there roaming the land behind a hill or a tree.... and you die. Because ALMOST EVERYTHING in this game wants to kill you. THERE IS NO A.I FACTIONS. Bears won't attack other humans or deer, wolves and boars don't fight each other but the moment you get in a "ZONE" even when enemy is not looking at you THEY WILL AGRRO. To make matters worse they respawn so fast that it makes the WHOLE EXPERIENCE A CHORE. Dungeons well rooms and corridors should have their Ceiling increased and boss room should have some variety ( for example pillars you can hide behind to avoid Ranged Attacks etc. but ranged attacks go through objects so it sucks... Swamp Monsters looking at you. ) Quests are so mind-numbing that I only do the "easiest" ones. They were clearly designed for 4 PLAYER PARTY in mind. If I have to kill 100 goblins, 20 tigers, 50 boars, 40 wolves etc. IN ONE QUEST then I'm out. Not only you will run out of potions but there is a HIGH POSSIBILITY of enemy respawning and ganking you which will result in death. [strike]STATS ARE BUGGED! Even if I put 6 points in POWER attribute my PHYSICAL DAMAGE DOESN't INCREASE! Also my Spell Damage is not linked to anything EXCEPT THE GEAR AND SKILL LEVEL. [/strike] *EDIT So apparently spells can do critical damage but Intelligence only buffs mana regen and mana pool. Power for melee still doesn't show up under stats but the developer assured me that it does increase the damage. I really wanted to like the game but i can't right now. It's a chore to play. Some games that are doing the same stuff but better and are also in Early Access are GEDONIA and DUNGEONS OF EDARA. Gedonia has a nice open world and strategically placed enemies so you never feel overwhelmed, have time to explore / heal / organise inventory without feeling like the combat might start any second. In Dragon EX they should nerf the HP and DAMAGE and place less enemies make factions so not everything aggros on the player. Do I believe that this game has a future? No. I have been burned WAY too many times on EA games but if this game is still being developed and ACTUALLY IMPROVING in 6-12 months time I will definitely re-visit my review and change it accordingly. [strike] According to the roadmap we can assume that the MELEE COMBAT will never be improved because it's DONE. Well, the thing is it is not done. FAR AWAY from it. From movement to animations and even A.I reactions everything is either unbalanced or sluggis / buggy ( like hitboxes, or can't hit stuff when on the hill etc. ) If combat will be left as it is then this game has no future. [/strike] EDIT Ok, so Developer left me a message saying that the combat will be improved which I'm actually looking forward to. https://trello.com/b/CK2zi3cL/dragon-extinction

While I would really like to recommend this game, in this current state I cannot especially at the price point. In all honesty there's some fun to be had with the game as of the current patch (0.4.0 at the time of me writing this review). The large issues lie in the fact that the game is essentially an asset flip, and while the assets are quite good, the execution is quite poor. 1. The town is a circle that takes approximately 3? seconds to sprint while hugging the further part of the invisible wall gating you in to this town circle center thing... And at that, not even all of the NPCs do anything and there's only I think 8 standing there? In reality they're either a crafting bench or a vendor or nothing and they just maybe take up some space to make the invisible wall less invisible wall-y. 2. The missions or... "biomes" are reused over and over and they're the same maps each time. You select your quest and it drops you in the same spot with generally the same spawn patterns for all enemies and complete your quest. The steam description claims "wide variety" and I give that a big NO, at least not now. 3. The objectives/the quests/the actual game is literally one of three different quest archetypes: Kill this many things, kill a boss or kill this many things then kill a boss. There is no story. The quests increase in difficulty by just increasing the number of enemies you need to kill or by increasing their stats and... yes I'll get to that. But basically, expect to kill a lot of the same enemies over and over and over because the quest is telling you to. 4. Ok combat is going to be split into 2 points because there's 2 major issues imo. First is that enemies just scale horribly. You go from killing enemies in one hit that don't even fight back half the time, to fighting a similar archetype enemy that just kills you in two hits. Now this may be due to the fact you're intended on grinding earlier quests to level? But since they're all the same anyways it REALLY makes it a grind. By the time you get to quests with bosses that aren't just bigger versions of normal enemies, THOSE BOSSES DON'T DIE. THEY KILL YOU IN 1-2 HITS AND I STRAIGHT UP SPENT 30 MINUTES HITTING IT AND IT NEVER DIED (Side note, the game is always online and I GOT KICKED OFF THAT MISSION SOME 30+ MINUTES IN BECAUSE IDK, SERVER WENT DOWN? Even in Steam offline mode I still see people logging in and out and what missions they're starting). Normal enemies work this way too. Their HP stat and damage stat just goes UP and UP to increase the difficulty by making it take longer. 5. The other problem with combat is your character/the skills themselves that all things use. Let's look at the mage: there's 4 spells, a heal and a haste. Then at level 20 you unlock 4 aoe versions of those spells. That's it. The four spells are fire, lightning, water and ice and according to the tooltips, they all do the same thing however... I ACTUALLY THINK they do different things. I THINK fire burns for some amount, electric seems to stun sometimes? But the tooltips don't say anything about this! And off the mage class, the only other class: The warrior has the same issue. The self heal doesn't say whether it scales if you get it past level 1. I THINK it does but I can't quite tell you how much. This wouldn't bother me so much if there was a large number of skills or spells and it was an oversight on just a few, BUT OUT OF THE 2 CLASSES IN THE GAME, the mage gets 10 spells (4 of which are just aoe versions of the 4 missile spells, 1 of which is a heal[AoE I think?] and 1 which is a haste), and the warrior gets the same heal and haste, plus an AoE, an attack speed buff and like a power attack, basically there's not that much going on here and even with what's going on here, the information isn't accurate in the tooltip. 6. The crafting barely exists. I'm not going to touch on this much, but basically it's either leather for a bag upgrade or it's iron which you CAN make into a few thing (like 10 things?). It looks like really only one of them is worth anything but it's endgame with an ingredient that requires completing the arena and like the only pet in the game which you get for completing every quest, it's more of just a reward for reaching endgame and I haven't beaten the arena so I don't KNOW whether the game suddenly gets great after that mission but I'm going to assume not. 7. This one's actually a positive: the game has some roguelike elements. If you like roguelikes, this has a dungeons which while I'm not sure they're "procedurally generated", the layout changes a bit and sometimes has a different number of floors. This COULD get very fun if it's built upon a bit more. At the moment it's my favourite part of the game. There's also a cave which seems to be the dungeon hard mode but it's in a cave now instead, and the enemy types are completely different? And same with the arena, it introduces some new enemy types as well? It seems the endgame has all the new assets which is an odd choice since many won't get past fighting a cougar for the 100th time by quest rank 3. By the way, the quests are starred off by difficulty. One star is tutorial. Two star easy, Three star is medium, Four star is HARD and 5 star is where I'm at at the moment and I'm not sure what's after? 5 star has Arena and Caves and that's it so I'm not sure if you can go past that at the moment but will update if it's something crazy. Overall, I feel like the game could be fun and you actually probably can have fun with it especially if you can get in some multiplayer. The problem is it's SOOO unfinished and what's implemented is not fully implemented. Early Access sure, but it'd take a few minutes to fix #5 tooltips just make the tooltip say what the spell does it's already in the code literally just display it to us! Also why have NPCs and what looks to be open parts of the map if they're just walled off. Just get rid of it or make it actually walled off. The fish merchant has been staring me with his death stare behind an invisible wall every time I die to the swamp creature and it makes me want to kill him except I can't (Please add this feature (I'm just kidding but sort of not kidding I hate that guy)) I think with some time, this game has promise but it's spread too thin right now. I wouldn't call any part of it a solid experience right now and yet there's an endgame pet (the only pet) and crafting which is half done, it's really not useful imo especially the weapon crafting. I will change my review if I play again and see some progress made in the game but at the moment, I think any developer could fix a large number of these issues in a week if not a day, and since the assets aren't even original I don't see what's the hold up. For the price point, It's a no right now from me. (Also some of these positive reviews are sketchy. Mr 1 review with 3 games in their library and 2 friends on steam saying this is the best game ever.... wtf? Lol. Juuuust saying a little sketchy. I did look through some extremely negative and extremely positive reviews prior to writing this and it's like a fookin war mate. I don't understand. The game's so unfinished how can you be so brutal and critical and to the other side, how can you think it's so fun I can't even figure out how much my self heal heals for after investing 5 skill points into it if it even does anything at all)
