The game is ok but play it in easy mode. And make it so that if you die at the expedition, you start it with the same team as if nothing happened.
Otherwise it's heavily luck oriented. You may die at any moment because of stupid reasons. "But it's like a real expedition durr-durr!". Well, the game is not so fun that I want to play the same expedition 3 times in a row.
Also, the ending is purposefully made in a way, that you have to go with the worse choice and play the whole game all over again to get the satisfaction of the good ending. Dirty move.

It's a good game. I've been playing it for years and I still enjoy coming back to it from time to time.
There’s a lot of room for improvement, but the foundation is good enough to keep it fun.
Compared to the 1st one, it lacks some hearth.

The only game that makes exploration roguelike work. Clean and fun design of gameplay, narrative and visuals.

This is a fun little adventure game. I just recruited Jules Verne to my party, so I'm pretty happy about that.

Curious Expedition 2 is a captivating blend of roguelike exploration, turn-based strategy, and narrative adventure that invites players to embark on unpredictable journeys into uncharted wildernesses. Building on the foundation laid by its predecessor, this sequel deepens the experience with more nuanced mechanics, richer world-building, and a stronger emphasis on storytelling. At its core, the game thrives on the excitement of discovery and the tension of survival, wrapped in a beautifully stylized and vibrant visual package.
The gameplay loop centers around leading an expedition team through procedurally generated landscapes teeming with mystery, danger, and opportunity. Players must carefully manage their resources, such as supplies, equipment, and the morale of their crew, while navigating hostile environments ranging from dense jungles to arid deserts. The turn-based system grants thoughtful pacing, allowing time to weigh decisions—whether to push forward in search of treasures, rest to recover stamina, or engage with enigmatic tribes. These choices often carry significant consequences, influencing not only the outcome of the expedition but the evolving narrative threads that emerge organically during the journey.
What truly elevates Curious Expedition 2 is its dynamic storytelling, fueled by a rich cast of unique characters and procedurally generated events that bring the world to life. Each expedition is different, thanks to randomized encounters that can lead to alliances, conflicts, or unexpected discoveries. The game’s writing strikes a delightful balance between humor, intrigue, and the solemnity of exploration, making every interaction feel meaningful. Additionally, the inclusion of character traits and backgrounds adds layers of strategy and personality, encouraging players to experiment with different team compositions and approaches.
Visually, the game embraces a charming, painterly art style that complements the adventurous tone. The landscapes are colorful and varied, with detailed environments that encourage exploration and reward curiosity. UI and animations are polished, ensuring clarity in managing expeditions and engaging with events. The soundtrack enhances the atmosphere, offering an evocative blend of adventurous motifs and ambient sounds that immerse players in the unfolding narrative.
While Curious Expedition 2 offers a rewarding and often unpredictable experience, it does come with a learning curve. The procedural nature means that success often depends on adaptability and careful risk management, which can lead to sudden failures. Some players may find the randomness frustrating initially, but the game’s design encourages perseverance and learning from each expedition. The roguelike elements ensure that no two playthroughs are alike, fostering replayability and long-term engagement.
Overall, Curious Expedition 2 is a thoughtfully crafted exploration game that captures the thrill of venturing into the unknown. Its combination of strategic decision-making, rich storytelling, and emergent gameplay makes it a standout title for fans of roguelikes and narrative-driven adventures. Whether you’re navigating treacherous terrain, negotiating with mysterious cultures, or unearthing lost artifacts, each expedition feels like a unique story waiting to be told. It’s an immersive journey that celebrates curiosity, risk, and the spirit of discovery in every turn.

Interesting exploring game. You explore various islands with a handpicked crew, utilizing scarce resources brought from Europe and scavenged on the islands to uncover the story.
Overall a fun game, though shorter than hoped for. Even with all the DLC, the game took less than 25 hours to complete. Good balance of danger, mystery, survival and art. Vaguely reminiscent of FTL. The designers definitely want you to replay it, but once you complete the story, there's not much to uncover, unlike FTL. The story, while fantastic, is not terribly creative. The art, however, very much makes the game and is a storybook quality.
One noticeable con though: This game chooses to use the made-up third person non-gendered pronouns "xi", "xhey", etc... At first I chalked this up to typos, but the continual usage is deliberate and annoying.
