+ its a great free roaming game with exploration and talents. If you focus on specific objectives you can quickly level up the jetpack which makes moving around a breeze. And its fun to fly :-)
- there is too much dialog... all the npc's pour out their hearts to you. I mean TLDR: just let me skip that and get into the shooting!

I'm going to start by saying I haven't really played to many THQ Nordic games so I wasn't sure this was going to be good. Just started playing it and I'm loving it. I like the vibrant graphics and good story and the gameplay is fun. Highly Recommend

I must say this was a pretty good game, with a mediocre story! There were a few small glitches, nothing game breaking. It definitely helped me escape reality and took me to a different place and time where I was Cutter Slade, hero to the Talon people! I recommend, good game!!!

I have conflicting feelings about this new Outcast game. I enjoyed it, but I can see what others are saying about the questionable game design and writing. It’s a mixed bag but at the end of the day I couldn’t help but like it and would recommend it, especially for those who have played the past games.
I enjoyed Outcast Second Contact, because of the lovable alien race, the Talans, and its open world. I hoped this new release would carry on the torch for the series, and it does for the most part. I think it was designed to be a half-way point between and old school open world “side-activity” driven gameplay, and a more modern quality of life features.
First, some negatives.
I swear, the writers absolutely cooked up the most unlikable protagonist in the history of video game writing. I mean he is just awful. He says the most inappropriate things and half the time he is just talking in circles. I swear, the writers intentionally made him very bad at communicating with the Talan, who are constantly baffled by what he is saying. 60% of the dialogue is like
Cutter: “I love music, I am a metal head.”
Alien: “You have metal in your head?”
Cutter: “U kno what, nevermind.”
It’s like this dude, who has extensive experience with these aliens, cannot stop using figures of speech and modern colloquialisms that are routinely lost on the aliens and man it just gets old. Not to mention his horrible character model. The futurama Leela style boots, the orange shirt, the lame and impossible looking jet pack. They should have changed him.
I get what people are saying about the overreliance on outdated quest deign. I too, sighed when yet another quest was like “go out and fetch me 15 mushrooms that are on this side of the map and then go and get me 16 sticks over on the other side of the map.” But I kind of get the flip side of it too. The game is supposed to be old school, and this kind of stuff was games bread and butter back in the day. I agree that some quests are needlessly complicated though. Like one quest where you had to fly through a bunch of flowers to collect seeds but you had to do them all in a row or you needed to restart.
Another annoying aspect is the health potion economy. For most of the game, health potions require a meat from a huntable animal. Which means grinding for drops from huntables to make consumables. Sure, you can buy the meat but not every town sells it, and if you trade for it, you always get a bad deal. It makes a lot of unnecessary grind for a critical consumable.
Some of the good:
This game has an excellent world. So detailed and well crafted, especially for a smaller budget game like this one. The world is exciting to explore and feels alive. The freedom of movement mechanics makes exploring the world a breeze and exploration is encouraged. The alien villages are highlights. They are usually imaginative and detailed, and sometimes I just enjoyed the views.
I like the abundance of side activities. It adds to the gameplay diversity and loop. There are actually a lot of things to do, and most have rewarding endings. You really feel like there is so much to do and combat is not front and center.
I enjoyed the Talans, just like the last game. They are well written and feel fleshed out. They have relatively simple lore that’s easy to understand. They are funny and likeable. They really make you sympathetic to their plights and motivated to help them.
Its story is kind of a cheesy campy mess, but it’s serviceable and a means to an end. I think the gameplay is the shining feature of this game and the ending gameplay sequence is engaging the fun.
All in all, for a low budget game for a low price, I think this one can stand on its own with AAA games. Its pros outweigh its cons and I enjoyed it. I would recommend it for those looking for an old-school style adventure game that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Seems like a good game. Animations are a little clunky. Story line is a little excessive, especially right at the beginning. I do recommend I guess, but damn developers, don't just throw in mindless narratives to take up time.

Not the greatest game ever. I've been playing the game on Manjaro Linux. It works flawlessly with full detail. While the game looks great it does not put a dent on the original. If there was a rating system here, i would rate it 6 or 7/10.

This game feels like it's from a bygone era where optional side objectives were fun and stupid sci fi tropes were capable of resonating with an audience.
It could be argued that almost all open world games today owe a design debt to the original Outcast, and all I have to say about that is this:
I've played 10-20 hours of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and exploring its massive landscapes made me feel empty every one of those hours. Everything felt like a checklist, but more importantly, the items on that checklist felt like a chore.
I'v only played about 9 hours of this game, but I just can't see myself getting sick of Adelpha before all is said and done. The world is more interesting, the side objectives feel more like an old 3D platformer than a chore list. The dialogue is stupid and tropey and full of sci fi gibberish, but it makes me feel happy, intrigued, and yes, sometimes annoyed. I will take an emotion cocktail that includes a splash of annoyance over being handed a nothing burger eight days out of the week. Well done, Appeal Studios. You did what basically only Just Cause 3 has done for me in recent memory: you made an open world action adventure game that's fun. Design by committee be damned, you actually made a game!

This is from someone who has not played Outcast 1 much, so I can not speak as a fan of the series. On its own however...
Played through the whole thing in a few days (not 100%ing it), finished just yesterday, and it's a fully playable game. The only thing that's confusing me is that cutscenes are capped to 30fps, but there is a mod for that. Being an unreal 4 game, it did crash on occasion, but rarely, and autosaves kept loss to a minimum.
I will miss that jetpack. Can't remember a game that let me have this much movement as the player character, without the use of mounts or potions or extra items, ever since Kingdom Hearts 2. I'd say the only game I played that did movement better is Prototype 2.
And the guns and their mod parts. Had at one point a rifle that shot out a fan pattern, but let the bullets home in on targets, and explode on hit twice (once from impact, once from leaving behind mines right on the enemies). Didn't do the most damage, but damn was it convenient. Learned later how to use mod parts more efficiently, and ended up with a gun that could kill bosses decently fast, and 2 shot elite mobs.
Somewhat typical open world game. Competently designed visuals. The only thing I am not a fan of is story related, but still a solid 8/10. Not perfect, played a few better, played A LOT worse.
