Got this on some ridiculous $.79 sale. Well worth a few bucks at least, but I'll take it at the price I got it. Cutesy graphics and decent learning curve of controls. I like the musical score. That's the strongest part of the game and most advantageous, because you need some good music to listen to while you're sending dozens of red-shirted mage away team members to their deaths. Level design is clean, brutal and unforgiving. Get this game. Get it now.

It feels like a new developers first game on steam and considering that and the price, its good. I think the platforming is made difficult by a 'floaty' character and theres some minor annoying things but for the price, its a good little time killer and quite fun to play. I picked it up for £0.62 and its just going to be my go to kill 20 mins game for the next week or so.
Casual level-based 3D platformer
Unlike what the store page claims, this is a fairly basic 3D platformer. Story basis is simple and silly: your dog ran away into a cave, so you, fire mage, of course follow afterwards. The cave turns out to be a trap-filled set of platforms hovering over an endless pit. Game's linear paths are guarded by animated skeletons and goblins, both the shooting and whacking kinds. Your character can jump and use two spells (shoot fire bolts and do a short-range area blast). Objective in each level is to survive and get to the goal. Enemies drop gold and experience points (XP) on death, both of which can be used to upgrade stats (like max. health, mana, spell damage etc.) between levels. There's a boss fight every few levels.
About level and game design
Most levels take a couple of minutes to complete. Like usual, 3D platforming is a tough one to crack, and particularly because of the fied camera angle you can't see what's on the bottom-side of the screen. Thankfully, the levels very seldomly progress downward, though there are parts where I wanted to backtrack to kill some mobs for gold and XP. Also, aiming sideways can be wonky because of the camera angle. The enemies are very weak and the protagonist has comparatively lot of health. I did manage to die due to health loss about 2-3 times: one was because I didn't realize I even could have lost that much health since I stopped looking at it. That's a main reason why I'd dub this into the casual cast of 3D platformers (not necessarily anything wrong with it).
Technical features and controls
Magician of Fire has adequate settings for basic adjustments. Unity launcher lets you switch between windowed and fullscreen modes. Sounds/music volume can be adjusted both separately and together within the game. However, there's only two tracks, one of which is used in the menu and other while in-game. The game is controlled by WASD+space (for jump), plus mouse for aiming and spell use. There's basic game controller support but it's a bit awkward: while movement is fine, the targeting is just moving the cursor with the right stick. Mouse is just way superior. I tested this with an Xbox 360 controller. A minor point to mention (as it's not a text-heavy game) is that the English translation is a bit quirky and there are typos (like 'Aply' in the menu in-between levels). Finally, a note about the achievements. There's currently one broken achievement (for completing the first level). The developer has provided a workaround fix to press 'F2' while in-game that grants *all* achievements in the game.
Brief experience
After about 45 minutes I was done with the game. It's a rather short experience. Not a great game but not too bad either, nevertheless you can safely skip this. For the achievement hunters out there, it is a short and easy game to complete. I would still wait for sale. ~Twistorian Curator~
