I can't get over how fun this game is. The devs are being modest with the EA tag this feels like a full release. Highly recommend

Really wanted to like the game but as it stands there are a few major issues.
Game is far too easy. With the default loadout I was blazing through levels and killing the final bosses in just a few seconds. Never had a single moment where I feared dying or struggled to kill an enemy.
The artwork is visual vomit. All the enemies are grey/white energy with a black outline. All of their projectiles and attacks are grey/white energy. You can't tell what is coming from who. Enemies just turn into a huge blob on the screen with no telling anything apart. Big boss attacks just light up the whole screen and have zero clarity of where they are going to hit. Really makes the game lack any fun or engagement. There's very little room for skill expression with dodging or target priority. Most abilities are either extremely difficult to see, or are homing projectiles that hit you no matter what. Gameplay quickly devolves into walking backwards while spamming abilities towards the grey blob of enemies for a minute or two per stage.

An awesome experience that remains a hidden gem in Steam's arena shooter genre. With its variety of monsters, skills, and abilities, combined with high replayability, Vellum is one of the most exciting games I have had the chance to play.

This is a really solid roguelike.
I appreciate that it hands you an insane amount of stuff to play with right at the start (classes, abilities, etc.) and let's you get super creative before you even start playing and unlocking even more stuff.
Really excited to see where this goes on its way to 1.0.

I've spent not a lot of time here and didn't scratch the surface of every ability available in-game (and co-op as well), but I already can tell that this a very nice roguelike entry :]
The world and premise is very unique and feels very polished, almost everything is based around books and writing, so much thought put into it. Abilities are fun to use, combining different primary, secondary, ult and even dash is fun and motivates you to experiment with them more, which adds a lot of replayability. Don't get me started on different perks that come with each ult and tome (weapon) you carry with you into the fight.
Only couple of negative things for me as of now:

Enemy attacks mostly not well communicated - you can't, most of the time, predict where and when enemy hits you. I get it that by the end of the run you experience Risk of Rain kind of chaos when you cannot pin-point who and how damages you, but it's somewhat annoying at eraly stages.

I tend to get bumped and stuck a lot in map terrain. With this style of a game when you're moving backwards and sideways so you can aim at enemies - you mostly don't look where you are moving - and not getting stuck in random rock formation is very crucial in heat of the battle. That's why I am not a fan of very tight maps with lots of obstacles.
Besides negatives - this game is very well made and worth your attention. Especially if you are a fan of RoR and similar roguelikes - it sractches the itch and doesn't feel like a reskin of a game you've already played before. It has a lot of personality and I love it.
