Sonja is a total badass and I loved being her, helping her through these weird alien dimensions and kicking ass with many weird weapons, for a surprising amount of hours.

One the best VR shooters with an actual story. It's not an easy game either. You should try it.

Not saying it's a bad game but I do think there are alot of deal breaker.
It's kinda jarring to me how this game are so highly rated. Maybe it's just me getting into VR and just played boneworks/lab and that one is just too good and shadows everything. While people have been playing VR were like desperate for a good game in a long time, so I guess it's understandable.
For me It's overall a very close to recommendation but just fell a little bit short.
# Firstly, the movement is pretty bad.
You walk so slow it's a constant bog down. If you don't want to feel like stuck you better teleport like a maniac.
And it's somehow nauseating? WTH, I just played Half life 2 VR and drove a freaking hover boat into the air while tumbling and I didn't feel a thing.
I don't know what did the dev do but the slow walk in this game just feels off.
# secondly the inventory is just so last decade.
That stupid weapon wheel is so not immersive and cumbersome I had some issue with that in Half Life 2 VR as well. At least Half Life 2 VR has decent feeling guns.
# Lastly the gunplay.
Bro, I don't think the game's gunplay is good(at least not good enough).
My biggest issue is the freaking floppy shotgun. The thing just flops up and down when you pump it.
I don't know, maybe the protag has rubber arms.
Duck season's shotgun blow this out of the park, and that game came up like 8 years ago.
Later on you got "semi-auto" update and it's so disgusting that it's not even semi-auto.
Not mentioning the gun just doesn't feel good to use. I can shot in duck season with that pump action faster than with that "semi-auto" in this game.
# The OST.
It's not there. Watching the trailer you might be anticipating a threat yet so many parts in this game doesn't even have a back ground track.
## But credit where credit is due.
The environment is pretty sick. A lot of varieties and pretty nice to look at.
The ocean is pretty nice, made me crave for a full on VR game on the sea.
Very well crafted models for both the guns, environments and npcs.
I'm still gonna to finish it, maybe even try to get some secrets. |
But, man,
do I really hope it had better gun play and not designed literally like a classic half life game. You just can't translate half life gameplay into VR. It's occasionally fun and refreshing but mostly tedious.
I have to say it's easier to get a hands on then Half Life 2 VR, but due to the og Half Life 2 had better design, combat mechanics, etc, Half Life 2 VR is a better VR game if you over look the graphics.

I would only recommend this to VR players with a SERIOUS VR constitution.
I feel sorry for anyone who picked this up as their first VR game.
On the one hand, the gunplay, designs, characters, story, music, voice acting, effects and puzzles are all top-notch.
On the flipside though, I can only describe how the developer handles the player as 'ABUSIVE'.
There are some seriously questionable level design moments that are extremely rough with the player, dropping them in situations, or forcing them through sections that are sometimes just outright mean.
Not in terms of difficulty, but in terms of uncanny, janky-animatronic, horror.
As far as I know, Vertigo 2 isn't really supposed to be a horror game, but the way in which it handles the player makes this one of the most frightening games I've ever played, and I've played a lot.
A great simple example of this is early on in the game when you get the first gun, there's an enemy waiting RIGHT BEHIND THE DOOR! That's a gaming nono unless you're intentionally making a jump scare game.
Then there's another TERRIBLE section in a pitch black warehouse, at the end of which there's a big deep, black pool of water with an unkillable monster in it.
I spent ten minutes walking around thinking "surely they don't want me to go in there!? Surely there's another door?"
There was not another door.
It's a game that simultaniously rewards and PUNISHES the player for exploration, as you can be checking out an underwater passage way and get a face full of giant black moray eel for your troubles.
This is what I mean, the game is just really frikkin mean sometimes.
If you've played Half Life Alyx and Subnautica and have earned VR balls of steel, then I say go for it. It's fast, funny and has a lot of very quirky, very memorable encounters.
If you don't like stumbling around in pitch black water, in silence, while a monster fish the size of a bus tries to permanently install a new version of thalassophobia 2.0 in your brain, then maybe give this a miss for now.
I thought that after Vertigo 1, the dev would have learned some valuable lessons about their responsibility to the player. Turns out, no..

This is definitely one of the most under-rated vr games out there. It is a really great single player experience. The graphical style looks great, and the character design is awesome.
The story is funny and exciting, and it feels really immersive. Highly recommended.

One of the best games in VR, different stylistically but it deserves to be mentioned in the same class as Half Life Alyx and Boneworks, and in some ways it 'feels bigger' than either of those two.
The soviet inspired robots live rent free in my head ever since I played that part in the game.

Really a great game. Kept me wanting more all the way to the end. Fun story, creative guns, and tough boss battles. Can't ask for a lot more.

All I gotta say.....
This feels like the half-life 2 of vr.
I love it all. That statement means a lot to me. Hopefully you understand!
