The DLC practices are absolutely abhorrent, but the kicking and the punching is pretty good.

I really don't get the hate on this game...
It runs great on my i7 10700k & 1080ti (even when I limited the power to only 50% on my 1080ti, so it should run great even on an rtx 3050 6gb!)
It has a lot of DLC sure... but you don't have to buy it! It's only cosmetics which is a waste of time anyway.
The game has a demo & I encourage people to at least test it out.
Overall - 8/10 I've only played the game for a bit but I'll update it later if anything bad pops up

It is 9:49pm on a Monday night. I had recently purchase a fight stick and started playing Virtua Fighter Revo. I really like the game and playing it feels nice. I play as Sarah Bryant which was my dads character back in the day in the arcades. Well skip forward in time its 2001 and I got a playstation 2. Some of these games were DOA2 Ultimate. I fell in love with this fast pace fighting game. Skip forward the Xbox came out and my brother got it. Part of the bundle was DOA3. We played the hell out of this game. Skip again 2005 DOA4 was one of the first releases in the year. I got it. earned all the outfits and played online. It was so much fun!
Skip many years, I am on the ps4 now and I find out that DOA5 came out, but it's not a full game. It's a free version and everything is very expensive. Not like I remember it. I played the core fighters version of the game and was turned off.
Skip to today. I have my fight stick I mentioned earlier and I saw that there was a sale for KT. I went and looked and saw DOA6 for sale. I thought hmm that's the newest one. Let me try it. I bought the game plus all the season pass. $110 in all.
I just spent an hour playing the game and I am going to give you my entire feeling on this game.
Somehow, the feeling I had from playing the first three games (2,3,4) was lost. There are a lot of new characters which is always fun. There is this new mechanic where you can store energy or something for power attacks and combos. It feels like a TEKKEN kinda of game now.
Anyways the graphics look dated, the combat while smooth as always feels interrupted by these power scene combo moves. The costumes are not as cool as I remember. Maybe I didn't get that many, it said I had 333 dlc options, but what were they?
We'll I have decided that I am going to stick with Virtual Fighter 5 REVO and refund all the DOA6 content I got.
I didnt check the online portion, but from what I read. There is no one playing online, but there are on VF5REVO.

Maybe im missing something but i dont get the story mode AT ALL.
ive played the other DOA games growing up and i loved the long story mode to get good at playing a character and to unlock some cinematics at the end and have their personal story. This game just seems to lack that? the story is all mixed up where you seem to have to switch characters to unlock very little cutscenes or story material. I dont get it at all.
all in all it feels like a DOA game without the heart and soul and with more clothes lol

Dead or Alive 6 (DOA6) is a good game that was let down by its short support of only a year before it was abandoned by Koei Tecmo, following the "Core Values" PR disaster. Regardless, it is still a fun fighter although somewhat lighter on gameplay features/content/roster compared to past entries in the series.
In terms of system mechanics, DOA6 introduces a meter system, a new stun state (Fatal Stun) and an auto-combo-like feature (Fatal Rush). The meter system is used for sidestep attacks, Break Holds (a type of hold that will counter any high/mid/low attacks) and Break Blows (a powerful move that can be used when the meter is full). I do find the game to be less technical compared to its predecessor, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (DOA5LR), which is great for me since it's also more beginner friendly. There's a lot of nuances in DOA5LR concerning the heights when you launch an opponent into the air, which affects juggling and are non-existent here. Personally, I've had a lot of fun labbing and figuring out combo routes.
The game has the following modes: Story, Arcade, Versus, Survival, Time Attack, Free Training, Tutorial (for system mechanics), Combo Challenge, Command Training (for learning move inputs), DOA Quest (a new mission mode for earning currency with one-time rewards) and DOA Central (for wardrobe, music customization, etc). Unfortunately, Tag fighting is a major omission in DOA6 which was a staple feature in past entries. There is also noticeably lesser costumes to unlock, with many of them being color variations; also, fewer and less interesting stages compared to past entries. There are a few noteworthy improvements from DOA5LR in the form of improved Free Training mode, ability to designate BGM to stages and create predefined costumes/title loadouts (up to 10 slots). Sadly, compared to DOA5LR, the input display in DOA6 no longer indicates whether the inputs hit high/mid/low and there's also no option to display persistent move lists on screen for ease of reference - nevertheless, all the negatives pointed out didn't ruin my enjoyment in any way. If unlocking stuff is a major thing for you, then you may wish to take note that DOA6 has a pretty garbage unlock system which requires that you first unlock a costume by earning pattern points that fill up the costume parts gauge for a random costume and then purchasing it using in-game currency (player points) on an unlocked costume. Sadly, it can become very grindy to get the costume you want (due to RNG) and DOA Quest missions only provides a one-time reward. If you have exhausted the missions, you can only unlock pattern points in Arcade, Survival and Time Attack modes. Titles unlock as you play the game but majority of them require purchasing after unlocking.
In terms of presentation, the graphics look good, though not necessarily better than DOA5LR imo. The colors are more vibrant, better lighting and character textures have a more porcelain shine to them (while DOA5LR has an overall softer feel). I certainly like the music better in DOA6 compared to DOA5LR and there are some pretty catchy tracks like "Ontology", "The Zen", "With The Goddess" and "Cold Punishment". And like DOA5LR, there are no new character themes but the ones from earlier entries are unlockable after you've played the respective characters enough (there is a superfluous character level system which these unlocks seem to be related to).
Performance-wise, the game starts up relatively fast on an HDD, runs great without framerate drops on my RTX4060 and I've not experienced any single crashes at the time of this review.
Overall, DOA6 is a really fun 3D fighter with enough in the package that I would recommend. However, I recommend only getting it when it's on sale since it has already reached a new low of 85% and will require you to get more character DLCs to complete the roster. As for myself, I bought the Deluxe Edition (at 85% off) for "With The Goddess ~Club Mix~" included in the Deluxe BGM set. If you have to choose between this or DOA5LR, the latter is hands down a better value proposition - though Mai isn't available for purchase anymore in DOA5LR. Both games do offer a "Core Fighters" version which is free to play, so you can install both and compare which one you like better in terms of presentation and system mechanics. Personally, I don't think DOA6 is necessarily better than DOA5LR, vice versa, and I appreciate that they are different enough for me to hop between them from time to time.

Fantastic game for jiggly wonders! Do not buy the DLC skins! Use mods instead which are free and better!
