it runs 40-50 fps on steam deck sometime dips into 30's (in default settings) and intro cutscene turn into smpte color bars if you don't set proton compatibility. Yeah it actually can run without proton with the cutscene turn into smpte. any proton GE will restore the cutscene. I already tried 7, 8 and the latest 9.23, the cutscene works but with no audio and it's common issue for any koei game runs using steam deck.
it can runs 50-60 sometime dip into 40's by lower the resolution and relies on fsr.
why you should pick wo4 over wo3 ? good graphic, newest generation in orochi series, new move sets like now you can use hyper attack (samurai) or ex attack (dynasty), new magic attack and FEW of them can turn into their deified form, new roster (but some wo3 character not returning to wo4).
and, why you should pick older series over the new one? you can get 60 fps without any dips on steam deck and without any complicated settings, the last time i tried the game there's no screen vibrating anymore, for 27.99 dollar (discount price) it packed with all dlc. There's no deified or super form but you can dress your dynasty character with their strikeforce costumes, I think that lu bu way cooler in his strikeforce form more than in his thor form in wo4. we may not get magic gimmick like wo4 but wo3 can summon the other 2 character rather than being just substitute or auto defense mechanism.
to summarize wo4 still have their own charm, old features and character from previous series may not appear in the game, but having new characters and new mechanism still fun to try.

One of the best of the warriors series. While the story mode is not as good, as in the 3rd game, this has the best version of all characters (including the more recent ones) it has good mechanics, and it doesn't run as poorly, as previous entries.

I "like" this game but the parts that are negatives are why I'd rather just go play WO3.
-The xp rate is ass
-The new characters don't make up for the missing ones
-Old best in slot characters like nuwa got big nerfs
Other than that its standard warriors affair. The story was more than passable for koei/omega3
Get it on sale if you want to try it out yourself! Not the worst in the series but nothing new here

No way Naotora and Yinping got god forms but not Guan Yu, Keiji or literally any Wu officer. Nah, let's not give it to Sun Quan, Sun Ce, or even Sun Shangxiang who could have been a great female replacement for Yinping...
Besides that, the game is alright. It's a Musou game. You're not getting deep gameplay, just the promise of a reverse jumping you will commit. The story is ass too, and the endgame mode for this is underwhelming as hell because they just took the Gauntlet mode from WO3 and made it worse. The magic system is cool at first, but gets boring pretty quickly since it makes the characters less unique.
To be honest, I was going to make a positive review, but as I was thinking about it during writing this, I realised fuck this game.

It's a warriors game like never before, which sounds odd really but it's true, the additions to it and character variety is outstanding, it may seem like a basic addition but it really does change how combat plays out and even allows for every character to become playable in a myriad of ways based on what you equip so to speak, I honestly wonder if both teams for Samurai and Dynasty realised this was their peak looking at how Dynasty warriors 9 and the last few samurai warriors games turned out dood.
Okay full review time, so WO4 is just like most dynasty and samurai warriors games at first, ya got your x and y attacks as well as the combinations in between, the base Y attacks have the same use for each respective game (dynasty it's still a heavy attack, samurai it's a dash attack that does great damage to grunts) but the game as advertised has the edition of magic, these spells are from artifacts, all of which can be switched between each character dood. (They can all use the same one at the same time mind you if you have a favourite)
The game also has unique aspects to the magic, you have a base magic attack, a more powerful one that takes your whole charge but more importantly each and every character has a unique magic that's tied to their initial artifact, these are all great to see and are much more powerful, which is good because it costs all your magic gauge as well as half your musou (special/ultimate attack) meter and finally if you didn't think that was enough, you have a unity spell that launches a super special attack with all your teammates dood!
You can switch between three characters in combat, of which can range from three types, speed which increases damage with combo amount and can jump mid-air for some great movement tech, technique type which can do a shadow step attack to close the gap which does cost a little musou gauge and finally the power type, these types can't be interrupted during their attack and can block during their own combo unlike others letting you avoid any more impacts from hits during your combo, on top of that you have four assist members, these have two effects, one I'll get to but on story mode they fill a meter based on their type and it can raise your stats a certain % on top of that certain unique groups together will give you a special boost if you use them although they are blacked out until you get them dood.
Story mode is great, they are large maps with actual conditions which feels nicely nostalgic to me, the later games seemed to want to do more compact quick fights that ended up feeling more like skirmishes than a full battle I felt at least from the dynasty side of games at least, which makes it extra nice that there is in fact one more magic use, which is to summon your horse to you instantly!!! It's ridiculous and I love it XD still you also have a home base after each battle (all menu's) here you can spend various things to expand you camp and it's functions and unlock bonus effects that help with battle among other things, to add to that you can upgrade your characters, unlocking various buffs, class/type upgrades and more combo's to use, you can even add special effects to your weapons to make your characters ludicrously over powered, not that you need it outside of infinity mode, which I will get to soon dood.
Story mode is an interesting concept if not insane, mixing not one but in fact two other cultures in there so to speak but that's as much as I'll say there, you choose a mission in the list and then complete it, basic bar the fact you also have missions in there, three each time, the reward is money, extra EXP or skill orbs, these are great as they give you 3 points for free! Keep them for your favourite three characters, I say this because they are limited, you will never get more after you beat all the missions, you are also ranked up to S based on time and kill amount dood.
of course there are three more modes other than story, battle, challenge and infinity mode, battle is an online only vs mode where you have three bases and have to catch all three against another player, well according to the tutorial, I never played it online myself, challenge mode is kind of weird and basic, you have two types, kill amount and destroy object with two versions, first is set level and weapon for your character, the other is a mode where you can use your character from story, fully levelled and equipped, they are okay I guess but not super fun and unless I need to beat the records to do it and just suck, there are only those two, always in the same area, kinda boring honestly dood.
Finally we have infinity mode, this mode is really interesting and expands the gameplay quite a bit more which is always good, more game means more fun after all, you unlock it later on and basically it's a bunch of combat scenario's with conditions to them, ranging from killing a set number of enemies, killing a set amount of generals, breaking objects, capturing objects and being fast about it! Then you escape once you've succeeded, enemies in this mode I'd say are tougher than the hardest mode in story endurance wise but luckily don't seem to do anywhere near as much damage, you get various rewards to make special overpowered weapons which are extremely costly but well worth the effort for your favourites, there's a small story aspect of it's own to it too so it's not just hey do all this just because which is always good dood.
So yeah it's a pretty dang good game, I'd say my favourite of the series of warrior type games, it does a lot right and frankly I can't see them doing any better than this in the future, I mean honestly? They haven't from what I've seen and having a unique story with Chinese and Japanese histories mightiest warriors and tacticians of the past and having them interact and fight together along with the unique to the series characters is just a blast, hope you all have as much fun as I did playing this if ya buy it! Thanks for reading dood.

I have 2 copies of this game because I really like the gameplay. The story, however, is really bad. The achievements are good, but the last 3 I don't have are really grindy, so I skipped it. It's 7.5/10 for me.
