Inexcusably phoned-in even by the standards of its time. The new units are alright, but the implementation of the new Legendary Lords and generics was deeply lazy. Alarielle gets sloppy seconds from the Wood Elf roster, plus incremental buffs so small you will never notice them, all revolving around High Elf factions controlling Ulthuan... which is the case at the start of the game, barring a couple of designated Dark Elf factions that exist to be beaten up. The commensurate maluses are so small that you will likewise never feel them - "effects" like +1% to construction cost for buildings will never in a million years meaningfully matter to your campaign. Alarielle's fundamental design shortcomings have mostly been ignored due to the fact that she has an easy starting position and Sisters of Avelorn remain incredibly strong, but this shouldn't actually disguise the glaring lack of effort that went into her faction. Hellebron is similarly low-effort. Blood Voyages are a joke you will see very little of either playing as Hellebron or against her. For a character whose fluff is about how she wants to stave off the pangs of old age, they could have at least bothered with an alternate model for Death Night as well. Modders certainly managed to do it immediately after release. Character-wise, Handmaidens have different specializations you can go down, but sadly this is impeded by the fact the skills for each route are fairly unimpactful. +2 to diplomatic relations is not, and never has been a meaningful bonus. Same with leadership aura buffs. Supreme Sorceresses might be the biggest joke of a Lord option across any DLC in this series - they are indistinguishable from the generic Dark Elf Sorceress (already a hero character who gets zero unique skills) save in that they get a Black Dragon. A shame. Not least considering that Prophet and the Warlock came out less than a year after this, and Ikit alone has more mechanics than the entirety of the High or Dark Elves do as races (even prior to CA ripping out bits of their gameplay in WH3), much less the sad spectacles of Avelorn and Har Ganeth from this DLC.
