When I boot up a fantasy story or a game on that genre, I expect characters with different classes (swordsman, thief, mage...) to represent different backgrounds, upbringings and/or moral choices.
A mage doesn't necessarily have to be a smart person, but, he has to have come from a mentor (or some tough self-learning) that leaned him towards certain life goals involving knowledge, regardless to whether he feels connected to these goals or not.
When I see a werewolf character, I expect him to struggle with issues like self control, self worth... or at least address them in some way due to their inevitable messy nature.
Wildermyth, however, doesn't tackle issues like that in any way. Your characters already start as warrior, archer and mage (the only 3 classes of the game) without being tied to anything, and they can transform themselves into wolves, skeletons and elemental forms without any changes in their goals or how society views them whatsoever.
It's a shame, because I really like the premise of this game design, but in the end, the lack of worldbuilding being tied to what each class (and transformatiom) can do turned my experience into a big pile of blankness. You do get choice/generated romances, friendships and rivalries, but they also feel empty due to not being tied into morals, upbringings or goals.
If this system was tied to meaningful worldbuilding, I feel like my experience would have been 1000x better.

For a game that emphasizes story and characters, it does a poor job keeping track of customization made in the character creator. Switch someone's traits, sexuality, or gender from whatever the randomizer gave you, and there's no way to update it. "Fine," you say, "I'll just manually go through their History and update it." No, there are flags that never properly updated despite you choosing different options from the drop-down menus.
I'd have more to say about other bugs I ran into in this 4 year old game, but I wanted to return it before my 2 hours ran out. What a shame, the trailers and everything look great but the execution ruined this game.

There are fun parts here and the game is relatively cheap, so it is worth trying. But personally I don't like procedurally generated story and character characters.

Wildermyth's produceral RPG campaign is somewhat interesting and I bet some fans of role-playing (RP) or D&D would love this game. I had some fun playing it twice (1 single-player and 1 multi-player campaign), but it turns out I strongly prefer a hand-crafted story campaign since I feel it's more polished and deeper than produceral ones.
But the UI/UX on multiplayer is rather poor. The main reason is anyone can take action and make choices without waiting for approval from another players, where there's little/no info on who did what. Some window/pop-up also seems to be shown to all players, where it got changed/closed when someone click certain buttons. I would recommend you avoid multiplayer unless you play in same (physical) room or your party can decide on someone who chooses shared action, choice or button in advance only after clear communication.
P.S. This is an informative/neutral review. Steam doesn't provide such an option, so I chose "Negative" instead due to poor multiplayer experience.

Good gameplay, unique stories, and a very lovable way of characterizing the characters with just coding and choices the player makes. Every game, even on the same campaign is unique, thanks to the characters and decisions made by the player.

While it's not as epic, nor does it have as many character creation options as say Baldur's Gate 3, there's something to be said about a fun game that has shorter battles so you can play it on workdays. It's a recommend from me.

Really good but hard. Unwinnable unless played a few times. The legacy system is awesome though. beautiful and thoughtfully constructed. I highly recommend for serious players ready to lose some.

This is one of my favorite games ever. The way stories evolve across adventures is so cool. I had an adventurer, a bit of a pyromancer and the clear protagonist who died surprisingly. She came back in a later adventure all about flames and fires and rebirth. A lineage of heroes grew across generations - some were wildly successful, others struggled to make a name for themselves. Veteran heroes returned right when they're needed to save a party of young, plucky adventurers. I sometimes just look at my hall of heroes and tear up - this game really is just a magical experience.

It's a really special feeling making stories in your head for these families and the legacies they leave behind for their kids. Wish there was more lineage-bound stuff in the game (ie: family heirlooms being handed down from parent to children) but all in all Wildermyth is easy gaming and tons of fun!

Epic tale where the REAL battle was against osteoporosis. Good to see how my 81 y/o grandma mystic with a crooked leg (L) really showed them monsters the wrath forged from 22,300~ish lonely nights (ㆆᴗㆆ)
