My first entry to the series, and my literal first PC game ever. One of the few games I never wanted it to finish.

One of my favorite classic PC games. Make sure you play Monkey Island 2 before this one. Though I know it is not for everything I really enjoyed the art direction of this game compared to the others in the series.

I know nobody is going to agree with me on this, but I would consider this game to be even BETTER than The Secret of Monkey Island.

A great Adventure/Puzzle game. Very amusing and fun to play Has 2 modes easy and hard. Quite enjoyable and great graphics. Nothing like a remastered game based on an old classic

“The Curse of Monkey Island” is the 3rd instalment of the series of the point-and-click adventures featuring Guybrush Threepwood, but the first without involvement of the original creator Ron Gilbert. In my view it’s the best of the series up to that point (and even better than “Return to Monkey Island”). Despite a different director and programmers, the game captures the theme, atmosphere and style of its predecessors very well, even evolving it to a better level. To understand some developments and relations of characters, it’s necessary to play the first two parts though, which were remastered nicely. After about 8 hours play time in the higher difficulty setting, here’s my pros/cons list: Pros: + beautiful level design + captures the themes and atmosphere of Monkey Island very well + has a direct connection to part 2 + new, fresh setting and visual style + great soundtrack + great characters + awesome voice acting + cutscenes well done + funny dialogues + lots of riddles + varied riddles + most riddles are logical and many funny + ship battles are entertaining + nostalgia of sword fighting (MI 1) + reunion with some characters of previous parts + amazing atmosphere + varied sceneries + difficulty level options + some background information about part 1 and 2 + a nice happy ending + point and click mechanics updated very well + feels like a natural evolvement of the series Cons: - Very few riddles hard or illogical - Some few riddles trial & error or simply strange - Still classic point and click mainly - Slow walking speed of Guybrush through sometimes big maps - Still missing explanation of what the secret of Monkey Island is - Although from story, setting and visual style point of view suitable for children, the riddles are for adults due to their difficulty Conclusion: Monkey Island 3 in my view is the best of all instalments up to date (2025). It’s a timeless classic, settling itself nicely into the series to that point. It’s mostly tailored towards gamers who enjoy riddles, which sometimes require outside-the-box thinking or trial & error, hence it’s somewhat a niche game in today’s market. Nevertheless, its good fun for anyone who wants to experience a wanna-be-pirate story. Rating: 8/10 points

Love the monkey island series. In my opinion this is the best of all of them. This and the first 2 are all great. The next ones are good especially if you enjoy the humor / world design. I definitely LOLed a bunch of times while playing this :)

Just such an amazing game. The humour is without equal and it's no lesser than the previous two games in the series, only does everything better.

One of the best Monkey Island game ! And..... Available in multiple languages ! That's GREAT. Really a shame that all the other games aren't with French voices...

All these years, I finally have proper English skills to play Act 3 without a walkthrough! My 12-year-old me is very proud now! And I still remember most of the puzzle from heart! I just adore this game! Also, there is an upscale mod that is a must-have to look as pretty as I remembered ;)
