Overall, a good story-rich title with an interesting eastern-inspired setting. Choices matter, but combat, while passable, is not great. Expectations should be adjusted considering the game's datedness. A spiritual ancestor to the legendary Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins titles, the passion and creative experimentation that defined old Bioware storytelling can be experienced in Jade Empire. Set in a universe modeled after ancient China and infused with mythological creatures, magic, spirits and martial arts, unexpected events within set you on a quest to restore balance to the world. You will not undertake this journey alone, and the companions and characters met along the way are memorable and unique. Personally, it's a pity no further titles were made covering the Jade Empire universe. Gameplay-wise, the combat system is janky but decent enough to get you through the story without feeling like a chore. Choices made have a significant effect on the story's outcome. However, I would have preferred if the morality of the choices were more nuanced and less 'black and white' (basically good or evil). That would have elevated the title up from good to great. Recommended if you're looking for an interesting lore-rich universe and story to dive deep into (it's executed well and is worthwhile!). If your main focus is on gameplay and mechanics, consider other titles. B

This is one of my fav RPGs as well are martial arts themed games. Up there with Okami. It is obviously dated as far as graphics but it is still incredibly beautiful. There are tons of really cool NPCs and locations that are a delight to explore.

This is one of old Bioware's best games they've ever made. Jade Empire is an amazing game with an amazing story and, surprisingly, good combat that stills holds up. Buy it, play it, enjoy it.

A bit dated, but it has great story and companions. The moral choices are a high point, either to walk the path of the Open Palm with good and noble decisions, or instead to follow the path of the Closed Fist and embrace an absolutely evil route. A pretty classic BioWare experience, that if you wish for more Mass Effect or Dragon Age, this is a good option.

A fantastic game from the good old days of bio ware. Runs great playing on the steam deck and it natively supports controllers which is great too. As for the game itself, it's quite a bit shorter than your average bio ware rpg (25 hours if going for a completionist run). But it's fun regardless with all the interesting characters and story beats you'd usually find as well as some surprises along the way :) Overall, a solid 9/10.

This game still holds up even today, the Chinese martial arts KOTOR. This was back when Bioware was one of the best videogame developers. I still have a hard time finding many companies as good as Bioware when they were in their prime. The story is amazing, the soundtrack is well done, and the world is one I always go back to. One of Bioware's best and one of the best rpgs ever made. I highly recommend Jade Empire. Can we get a remaster that would be awesome.
