Worst expansion by far. Half of the time you're left wondering what's happening and the other half why. Doesn't really add anything interesting, just some Annoying obstacles.

The harbinger expansion provides a different type of game to the other expansions in as much as the only real aim of the game is to be the last character to still be alive after all the other players/characters have been killed - it is an extremely harsh expansion in that it becomes virtually impossible to build up strength and craft AND keep all or most of your lives because of the chaos that the expansion brings - the ai characters don't have the skill to avoid the pitfalls on the board so if you only play against ai characters you will probably almost always win - if you play real people on line then the game is a touch more fun to play but the end game at the centre of the board is virtually pointless as it is so difficult to survive - on the whole , taking everything into account, this is the one expansion I prefer not to use

Sounded like fun. Was anything but. Should be end-game material, not over-powered stuff thrown at characters starting out. Was it even play-tested? Or do you have to be one of these 'hard-core' players to play this? Not for me. Refund requested, sadly. Will probably by another expansion instead that I considered.

Usually an expansion will add a balance of good, bad, neutral elements to a game. This literally only makes the entire game harder, handing out punishing cards and negative effects from the start. Not to mention a way for every player to lose if they don't know how to go through the game super fast. Plus, visually, the omen card keeps popping up a whole lot over other cards as they're being played and we don't know why, but it's annoying and there's no way to disable that function. Would not go out of my way to get this unless you've played a lot of Talisman and feel like there needs to be extra pain added to the gameplay with *no* added rewards. If a hardcore audience exists for this game, I'm almost certain this is the expansion they add to weed out casuals from their games. Talisman otherwise? Good game, do get. Not this expansion.

A very punishing expansion that makes it a race against the clock as the omens keep dropping and things get worse for your character. It's random chaos, it's horribly unfair, i.e. it's peak Talisman. As with almost all of the expansion DLCs, you can try before you buy - there's one that can be played for free every week, and it changes every Monday. Or, you can keep setting your computer clock ahead a week until you find the one you want to play.

If you play this game with a lot of expansions, as I do, you will notice that the game gets quite a bit more difficult. Harbinger brings some very cool mechanics to the game but there is just too much random Life Loss that you can't prevent, over the course of a game. Here's the thing. Cataclysm expansion basically removes all of your RELIABLE heal spots from the board, forcing you to rely on the random distribution of Denizens over time to find Healing. After numerous games, I don't think I want to play Harbinger + Cataclysm ever again. It is super hard mode, and the randomness inherent in Talisman doesn't work well with super hard mode. Maybe Harbinger w/o Cataclysm could be fun, or vice versa. And here's the reason I would choose to include Cataclysm instead of Harbinger. Cataclysm puts 5 very cool new Heroes into play, and Harbinger (even though it has cooler mechanics than Cataclysm) brings 3 very MEH Heroes into play. Harbinger is... probably a very fine expansion to activate on its own, or to VERY CAREFULLY introduce with other expansions. But if you like to get as much of your content enabled in a single game of Talisman, like I do, Harbinger 'does not play well with others'. And I am not as big a fan as I would need to be of the 3 Heroes it brings to the table, for me to prioritize it. There are better expansions out there.

The Harbinger adds more randomness to a game that is already heavy on RNG, but it remains true to what Talisman is. Your enjoyment of this expansion comes down to how seriously you take your play sessions. This is not the ideal set to use for a six person online game, but I enjoy it for the pure chaos it offers for offline play. You also get three new characters included in this set, so consider waiting until this one goes on sale to buy it. This expasion is a recommend with two cavets-There are plenty of better expansions you should buy first, and this is not a set that everyone will enjoy.

My playgroup politely asks that we keep this expansion disabled. The omens act as not only a time limit (once all eight are revealed, everyone loses with one exception), but also as a hinderance to game progression by beefing up monsters, and as wrench into the natural game mechanics by often times replacing spaces; effectively making them inert. the Castle is your talisman quest location? gone. got sent to jail? its a bog now. the tavern that your class uses to gain gold? nope, it's a crater space. Eventually games became confusing messes that ended in everyone losing......yay?
