It's an interesting experiment in level context and aesthetics, but the enemies just seem to be scattered about at random, and the hardest attacks are also just sort of random sprays of bullets. There's character customization, but most of it boils down to buffing just three stats in approximately the ratio you desire, and equipping weapons (only like five of which are truly different). As far as I can tell, I've already seen the bulk of the content in the game, too...

I am really enjoying this game. Nothing too deep going on here, but sometimes you just need a good old action shooter. Triton Wing delivers!
Before I go on about why I like it, I should mention a few small issues I have with it. One, there does not seem to be any tutorial, assignment of missions, or even a controls menu. These are fairly standard in most modern games, so it was a bit of a surprise not to find anything like that. Still, the controls and objectives are pretty easy to figure out, so in this case it was kind of fun to just jump right in without knowing what to expect.
The only other issue I had was that you have to re-assign your weapons (unless I missed something) each time you load your saved game after dying. It only takes a few moments, but it would be nice if it remembered the settings.
The pros outweigh the cons considerably though. It has cool graphics that invoke older games like Xevious and other top down space shooters, while remaining up to date in terms of quality.
Fun, easy to control gameplay.
Lots of options to upgrade your ship, including buying new ships, choosing from a selection of guns, and upgrading each ships individual features allow you to enjoy the quieter moments.
If you like fun, easy to play, but hard to master action shooters, I would give Triton Wing a try. If you are looking for something with a deep story and/or hand-holding tutorials, keep looking.
