I have played 3 Saga games and can recommend only 1 of them... This isn't that one.
Difficulty on normal and regular battles randomly body me.
The story is a decent set up from the start (I've started off 2 of the 4 campaign segments).
I beat Romancing 2 on Classic/Hard and enjoyed the ups and downs. The combat here is a bit different, working on 'team action points,' but it is enjoyable. There is just a lack of ways to recover mid fight and the team mates have too few LP.
This is the most punishing of the Saga I have played, but it was still more playable than Unlimited.
If you're after a 'standard RPG' with some saga flare, this aint it.
I wasn't sure if it was just the one start or the game overall until about 3.5 hours in.
I will update my review once I finish it or finally give up on it.

no video game "journalist" has ever beaten this game and that's a good thing
what this game amounts to in a few succinct bullet points:
no dungeons
excellent, strategic battle system
graphic novel
bizarre
unconventional and freeform
hard
endlessly replayable
but not for everyone
