Omega Strike looks cool and feels pretty good, but ultimately it is a low tier Metroidvania. Now, this is a mean statement to make, but there are a few big reasons why I did not bother to finish it. After the first hour or so even a blind person could see why it gets boring. 2/5 Pros: - Bright visuals - Jumping and gunning enemies down feels pretty good - Great soundtrack - Feels like an Amiga game in a weird sort of way - Having three different characters is a good concept Cons: - ...but only the guy with the double jump is useful - You keep fighting the same enemies - Too big levels with same rooms over and over again - While the game is pretty easy, save points are too far apart - None of the new abilities are fun or meaningful, you just get to go around obstacles. Hooray. - There is a good game hidden under all the monotonous repetition

This title has many of the trappings of a great indie game, but suffers from extremely bland level design and ability progression, both of which are absolutely critical elements of the metroidvania genre. Many of the abilities gained throughout the game do not come in handy beyond allowing you to pass progress gates, making them feel entirely token. The boss design almost entirely ignores character progression and skills. As only one character has a double jump, and several sucker-punch boss attacks require double jump to evade, I almost exclusively played just one of the three characters during all boss battles. Out of all the bosses, one boss required a gained character skill to evade, making the game feel as if various parts were designed in complete isolation. As far as play time is concerned, I played my first and only playthrough on hard mode and achieved 100% completion in 8 hours.

Amazing 2D indie game which I enjoyed alot, the boss fights and the music were fun. If one thing i would suggest is to add the boss name on top of the health bar while fighting them, other than that it was perfect. 9/10 for music, gameplay and boss fights.

I don't hate the game, but the word "slog" that so many others have used is appropriate. Mind you, it was nearly entirely made by one guy and shows potential, so I give credit for that. However, it's absolutely not worth the full price of $13. I paid $3 for it on sale and that seems more appropriate. For reference, I finished the game in 5:55 according to the in-game timer with 99.5% completion (couldn't be arsed to find the last medkit). The game actually shares a lot of the issues Shantae: Risky's Revenge (SRR) does.
The Good
+Graphics are bright, colorful and well-animated (SRR). +Maps shows the number of missing items in each area.
YMMV
~Music isn't bad, but is forgettable/ignored after a while. ~Practically impossible to die since you can carry near-infinite healing items (SRR). ~Upgrades max out quickly, making money useless halfway through (SRR). ~Can't shoot down or diagonally. ~Characters aren't balanced well. You'll play Dex most of the time because of his mobility. ~Hidden areas are anything but hidden (SRR).
The Bad
-Level design is more of a one-way platformer, like Mega Man (SRR). A quick travel system would have removed a lot of that "slog". -Little incentive to go back to hidden areas since it's only ever money, hp upgrades or hp restoring items, which as I mentioned above, are all pretty pointless (SRR). -Combining everything above and some annoying later enemies, you'll get to the point of just facetanking all the damage and running through the rest of the game (SRR). Again, one guy made this. I post the above as constructive criticism and to prevent anyone from overpaying. I'd be interested in a second game that improves on the issues here.

An entertaining metroidvania with beautiful pixealrt graphics. It also mixes mechanics from other games, such as The Lost Vikings, by having to exchange characters with different abilities. The difficulty is not very high, so it is a game that the smallest of the house can also like. The music and sound effects are at a good level. Of course, its price is very high, so it is to buy only when it is on sale. 8/10 Hey, if this review has been useful to you, you can follow me on: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38997970/

I've played games from Woblyware before and love the Devious Dungeon series, but their first bigger game and their first vania... falls flat. You know they messed up when you get angry when you find a chest. They didn't plan the levels well and they have too many chests and too much money and you'll have the weapon upgrades way too quick and all you can spend the money on from then is food. It wouldn't be too bad if you didn't spend so much time going down a path only to find a chest you don't even need.

Omega Strike is a strong title for any plateformer enthusiast. Of course it has some flaws, like the lack of difficulty or the generic scenario, but the qualities offered by the game put those minor details to oblivion : - Nice pixel art - Catchy tunes - Perfect controls - Simple yet great mechanic : choose between 3 characters regarding their skills in order to bypass difficulties. Plus it's extra cheap when on sale.

So besides the soundtrack, this game was developed by one person. My positive review is graded on a curve based on that. That said, Omega Strike has a few issues that keep it from standing out amongst similar games in the genre. While it is a solid title in most regards, the constant backtracking within the handful of available levels really turned into a slog. This wouldn’t have felt like such a chore if the map was better designed. Trying to remember where you have and haven’t been gets more confusing as you progress, which in turn leads to more annoyance. There is a helicopter for quick travels to the start of each level, but this is only for the main areas. Plus some of these levels have only one way in or out, so to get out of them you need to do a long backtrack or you have to buy a beacon that sends you back to the main hub. This got old pretty fast. There’s weapon upgrades, but they get maxed out pretty quickly. Plus they don’t have a lot of heft to them. Your three characters gain special abilities as well, but these are granted at predetermined times during the game. Some of them , like the dash ability, come so late in the game it’s like ‘why even have them in the first place?” So with all that out of the way, there is some fun to be had with this game. There’s a decent variety of enemy types and the combat and platforming does provide some fun. The controls are tight, easy to learn, and become intuitive quickly. Plus the overall level designs are done well, especially for being the work of one dude. Again, if the game’s map was more helpful, this would have really let that aspect of the game shine. Presentation was solid. Graphics, while not amazing, were good enough. Soundtrack was above average, while the sound effects were merely okay. If you’re a fan of the genre and can deal with the (over)exploration and mild grinding aspects,,you’ll most likely have a good time with Omega Strike. Just keep your overall expectations low.

Went in with low expectations and came out with my mind blown. This is a fantastic game and an excellent metroidvania. At first I was a little worried about having to switch between three characters each with their own unique shot patterns and abilities, but that feeling quickly vanished after experiencing how brilliant it's all put together. The platforming is awesome, the bosses are fun and the abilities earned to explore new areas make sense and are fun to use. I played in normal difficulty and it felt perfect. It started out nice and easy and the small steps in difficulty are spot on. Music is fantastic as well. It's reminiscent of the sound chip from SNES games and it's really catchy stuff. My only minor gripes- there's chests, medkits and heart containers scattered about, and while you can see how many you've earned in each area, there's no way to tell where exactly they are, even after you "discovered" the map. So if youre a completionist you'll have to backtrack through each and every area to check everything again. It would've been awesome if there was something you could buy in the shop toward the endgame to show everything you missed on the maps so if you want to you could go back and get them all, but it is what it is and I didn't let it bother me from enjoying the game. Like metroidvania games? Platformers? Run n gun? Awesome soundtrack? Buy this game.

This is one of those games with some really nice art and music but is utterly boilerplate. One of those games you would see on the list of obscure old games and say "why haven't I heard of this before." then play it and go "ah, that's why." There's something that just feels off about the way it controls, it's level design, and gimmicks. It becomes a real slog of slowly going through rooms fairly early on. It's a metroidvania, but it doesn't really advantage of large interconnected world. The levels feel more like something from a platformer like Mega Man. Backtracking to old areas when not required to progress offers small rewards like some money or the game's version of heart pieces. It would have probably been better off as a level based game. Going through each room feels slow. The gimmick of having three character you switch between isn't really utilized well. I tended to just play as the guy who can double jump because the added mobility was way better than any thing else. It's too easy to forget which character has what ability in the heat of the moment. "I'll just double jump up there. Ah, dang it, that's not this character." Switching between them is done with one button (the shoulder buttons are not used at all,) and that makes switching characters more of a chore. It's feels like the game thinks it's faster paced than it actually is. It has some good ideas, but it doesn't quite know how to implement them.
