I loved this game. It has a great balance of dungeon and dating sim aspects. My only complaint is that it crashed at the last scene. I didn't get to say goodbye to the characters. When I reloaded the game it skipped past that part. Bummer.

Boyfriend Dungeon is a tough one for me to judge—it’s not the kind of game I usually go for. That said, it was fun while I tried it, and the combat is actually pretty enjoyable. It didn’t fully hook me or keep me coming back, but I can still see the charm and appeal. Just because it didn’t click with me doesn’t mean it’s not a good game.
It wouldn’t be fair for me not to recommend it—especially if you're into unique genre blends and dating sims with a twist.

Short Version: Boyfriend Dungeon is an experience that I would recommend for those who love smaller games that don't take 20+ hours. I'd prefer a longer story and a more branched approach to the story itself. The art is beautiful and varied, with a dreamlike atmosphere to most cutscenes. The music is the greatest part of it all, and is definitely worth buying the soundtrack itself.
Long Version:
The story is great, but incredibly short for the price of the game itself. You can beat this game in 2-3 hours if 100% completion is not what you're after. The "Villain" is partially characterized as an Incel-type while also being pittied, leaving the execution of such a villain messy and mildly unfocused. The addition of him into the weapon-smooching routes was nice, but there were some opportunities that were missed that would've certainly benefitted from having them.
The variety in the weapon choices is actually a great part on why I recommend the game. the Dunjes feel like a fresh start every go-through thanks to how varied the gameplay styles get. The little quips each weapon makes don't ruin the mood either, instead adding to the ambience of entering a place that is mostly new to both of you. The respite spots have cute interactions, and gift giving is as simple as clicking an item they may or may not like. (mostly not. while most of the gifts have a clear lover of it, a few are really hard to guess in my opinion.)
Crafting is a neat mechanic in most games, but in this one it feels like a time sink to even make some of the later items, especially the cosmetics. Overall, it's a basic way to have most items during gameplay. I do like the fact you can only craft one gift of every type and that be all you get. It makes you choose who gets what and make your choice matter.
Overall, I give the game a 7.5/10. If they ever make a sequel, I'd love a longer story with these characters for certain.

Oh my gosh, I LOVED this game! I'm not usually one for dungeon crawlers but I devoured this game. The aesthetic is so cute and the characters are great to!
Slight warning as the story does have a story line which may make some people uncomfortable or could be triggering so look after yourself. Still, I'd love a second game and I still crave the feeling I got from this game :swordheart:

Thoroughly enjoyed this game/dating sim. I do have to agree with some of the other reviews I've read however. I agree that their front lining date-able character Sunder had a disappointing romance. It's wonderfully written filled with hints of growth and change for his character yet as soon as you max him out he dumps you. (He looks so cute at the wedding T_T) I even went through the final boss with him thinking that he would have some other dialogue or that it would change the way he felt but nope. I feel like I wasted my ending using him as my weapon of choice.
Also, the first they/them character I met that was a possible romantic option was a literal child. I had to friend-zone them real quick because it just felt wrong to see them talking about wanting to do things with my character and to kiss them etc. Favorite romance is Pocket aka the cat because befriending a cat that can turn into brass knuckles is great and adorable. Favorite overall that you can actually romance is Seven. He's honestly the most normal option out there even if he is a K-Pop idol. It would have been Jonah but hes too soft for me.
All in all I did enjoy this game and tried to get as much as I could from it. i think a sequel where we go back to Verona for vacation or some kind of dunj conflict would be a good addition to the story. Maybe have returning and new dating options like we could get Sunder back and continue his romance and he could actually grow. Finishing the game with just leaving Verona and going home felt like such a cliffhanger on what happened with everyone that it would be nice to get some closure. You know, see Seven in his new career. See where Jonah ends up. Maybe meet Pockets owner.
Still though a lovely game that I think everyone who enjoys dating sims should check out. Ending could be better but it was a fun journey. And for those who cant beat the final boss Idk what to say. Try harder? Also I don't even really use the zine abilities. They were cool to craft and try out but I didn't see myself using them much at all.

PROS:
- Mechanics are simple and easy to pick up
- The music slaps
- The art is charming
- The characters are cute and varied
- The story is heartfelt
- Your character's appearance, name and pronouns can be changed at any time
- You can romance multiple characters at the same time without conflict or jealousy if you want to.
CONS:
- as an Autistic, it wasn't clear enough which options would result in initiating a romance, so I ended up starting relationships that I did not intend to pursue.
- if you are romancing a character, there is not always the option to refuse a kiss. (which feels invasive when you romanced them by accident)
- You only have one save file per-character, and manual saves can be overwritten by auto-saves, so it's hard to create placeholders to try other routes. (HOT TIP: make a copy of your save file to create a hard save)
