GOKEN was a very fun game for me, your generic RPG. Kill, level, upgrade weapons, explore map, do quests, main story, bosses, healing poitions or any other potions, multiple weapons. If you like games like these, you should try this game out. Beware this is a short game, you can finish this within 7 hours if you just rush and go through the storyline quickly but if you play at a normal pace you should be able to finish this within 10 hours.

Very hack n slash rpg with a little bit of kickass feeling and lot of humor. Story is simple, a bit clichue and main protagonist has the biggest IDGAF attitude I have even seen in these sort of games. Combat is pretty simplistic, beggining with only three hit sword combo, that slowly gives variety as hero finds more and more weapon (5 at total). RPG element is in form of weapon upgrades and passive skill boost that are given through tattoes, with a small possibility to create various "builds" (defence, health, stamina, attack). Game gets a bit grindy especially if you want all possible upgrades, contains secret terasures and even secret (and hard) boss. My playtime was 14 hours, with about two to three hours of pursposeful grind to get some xp, gold and mats I wanted. Replay value is not great, little motivation since you know the story and you can carry one after the story ends if you wish for some more grind/upgrades, there is arena where you can try to beat highest enemy waves but I can imagine this gets boring eventually. It is not a briliant title, would deserve a bit of polish, especially in inventory management, tattoo management, info how much xp your weapon have (has to be capped before upgrade) and absenece of mats blacksmith asks to in any form of diary can be a pain. But despite last para, I can recommend this, was 14 hours of fun to me.

Coming in I was expecting this to be a fast paced ARPG along the same lines as Ys or the like, unfortunatly while this game looks great and has excellent music it's let down by a few gameplay choices that just take away from my enjoyment. Firstly is the characters movement speed which is painfully slow and so getting around at any decent pace requires you to use the dash. Which brings me to my biggest issue, the stamina meter which will get eaten up because i want to progess at a decent speed, which means that when I run into an enemy I won't be able to attack because of course that needs stamina also. Now I could go around at the snails pace to conserve my stamina but unfortunatly the regem speed means that eventually you'll be stuck in the same place of not being able to attack or dodge. So while the game looks the business that is sadly all it does right now.

The good: - Addictive adventure - Tattoo System - Really beautiful graphic, seriously, i love it very much.. - Wide area - The discount at price The bad: - Kinda repetitive - Uhm, very little sidequest? Overall, i enjoyed it and if you are in action rpg like bastion, give this a try..

[EARLY ACCESS] I purchase this game so I didnt get a freebie. [Thank you for the Linux Version this was the main reason for buying this game and my love for Y's which this game resembles] So far the good: 1. Tight control on a SC 2 Nice Graphics and the colors they just pop all over the place. 3. The game studders a bit but not enough to distract you from the game play. Am sure this will be tweak in the final release. 4. The humor and some of the dialogues 5. Please allow the functioanlity of re-mapping the buttons on the game pad / Steam Controller The bad: None this is an Early Access so this is expected suprising polished.

– 25 hours worth of content – No loading screens (except when entering indoors: shops, caves etc) – If you like the combat system at first impression, you'll like rest of the game There is no button for block, instead there is a stamina system with dodge.
Update: 35 hours to complete everything (find all secrets etc)
Just a straight up fun game. Haven't finished it yet, but have put several hours into it and I've loved every minute. Lots of nostalgic gameplay, It's something that I can pick up on a saturday after working all week and not be completely lost as to where I'm going. It's very reminiscent of legend of zelda meets secret of mana with graphics that fit the current systems, I like that they have a weapons upgrade path, though it's a little clunky to have to visit a blacksmith every time to see what items are needed to upgrade each sword. The enemies can be predictable, but that can also get you into trouble when you are feeling like you can't be hurt and then they throw you a curve ball and you have to reload from your last savegame (save often). Great to get in on early access for $14.99 and save a few bucks as they iron out the minor problems, pretty much a finished game as I see it. The only bugs I have run into are not gamebreaking either, just some menu problems which have consisted of closing a menu and reopening it to fix.
GOKEN
GOKEN has just come out of EA & is a 2D style RPG hack & slash, action adventure game. The game is very pretty, I was rather impressed with this games art style, " this is not some cheap RPG maker game". I found the Art style quite unique & very pretty at times. I really enjoyed every moment I was playing this game, & it was hard for me to stop playing. REMEMBER to manually SAVE the game ALOT, as game does NOT auto save, its easy enough to find via start button/pausing, you will see all the features, like map, weapons you can equipt, once you do aquire them. Its easy enough to work out. The main character you play is a Male called Edge, but you can rename him if you like. Edge is a mean spirited kind Of character & wants to get his 5 swords back that where taken from him before he was placed into a very long sleep by the gods. Be aware that there are some dialogs you may read that might shock you, or not!, I myself found them all rather funny. I have never played and RPG game before that would make me laugh at times like this game did. Some people may not like the dialogs used, but they never bothered me, laughter is very good for us all, & I enjoyed them all. The game has 2 very large maps, which you can access via pause menu & since it is now fully released it has had numerous updates with more content added including more steam achievements & Trading Cards added as well. Time for me to to play some more, since now it has side quests & even tournaments added for more replayability value. GOKEN is currantly on sale till the 9th of October at 25% off, you wont see the discount because the developers said there was an issue getting things set up in time & full pricing added, they needed 30 days notice and seems this was a last minute, full release desision, unless Im wrong?. I have really enjoyed my time immensly with GOKEN and for me it did NOT disapoint, but I speak for myself & not for others ok. The developers are very nice and very active with regards to thier game. So any questions dont be afraid to ask them ok
Store page tells a better story than I can, just know this for me game was well worth the EA risk & Im very pleased with the final out come. ENJOY GOKEN it is a very nice RPG game in my personal opinion
Congratulations to GIANTY Inc. you made a very nice game THANK YOU Greatly :)

I have a lot of small nitpicks about Goken that by themselves would be forgivable but together just made me too annoyed. Combine them with the fact that I wasn’t a huge fan of the sprint based combat and it wasn’t a fun time for me. For starters I find the map system next to useless. The map indicates general areas and some point of interests but you can’t use it to track quests. On top of that your quest log doesn’t track main quests only select side quests. You better write down any dialogue hints as to what to do or where to go because there won’t be much else to help you. You can’t access the map from a game pad either. Back in 2017 the developer indicated they wanted to get these features implemented but at the time of writing this about five years later and none of these have happened. As for the sprint based combat it is simply a matter of subjective taste. I understood what the developer was going for and for the most part I could make it work but the more I played the more annoyed I got. I liked the graphics and music. I was mixed on the story as I didn’t really like the main character, playing an annoying loud mouth isn’t something I enjoy. I liked the lore and side characters though. I liked the tattoo system but felt the level system lacking. I could gain levels fairly quickly but never really felt like I was getting that much stronger. I played Goken on Linux. Alt-Tab didn’t work. There are no graphics options at all aside from resolution. You can manually save the game outside of when your in a boss fight and there are three save slots. You can’t load a save from within the game though and will have to exit to the main menu or die to do so. The game suffers from little stutters that happen often enough for it to be a problem. When they occur the frame rate doesn’t drop. As above these have been an ongoing issue that remain unsolved for the last five years. My system wasn’t being taxed very much and I wouldn’t say the graphical detail warrants anything other than a smooth experience. It froze on me one time as well. The game is locked to 60 FPS regardless of your monitor. Game Engine: Unity Graphics API: OpenGL Disk Space Used: 3.88 GB Resolution: 1920x1080 GPU Usage: 0-79 % VRAM Usage: 993-2461 MB CPU Usage: 8-21 % RAM Usage: 57-60 FPS Goken has a nice concept and some nice parts to it but overall I have to recommend avoiding it. I didn’t finish it but played for six hours and twenty minutes which was enough to get four of the five swords. I paid $5.77 CAD for it and can’t recommend it even at that discount. My Score: 5/10 My System: AMD FX-9590 | 16GB DDR3-2133 | XFX RX 590 8GB Fat Boy | Mesa 22.1.4 | Samsung 870 QVO 1TB | Manjaro 21.3.6 | Mate 1.26.0 | Kernel 5.18.14-1-MANJARO

I got this game mostly because the dev was so nice when asked for Linux support and delivered it quite quickly. There's still a few bugs that the devs will need to fix, but nothing too bad as I finished the whole game. Not everything is super clear as what you need to do, but it's not a big deal, as all in all everything is actually quite easy and so you figure it out eventually. The game is fun, has nice graphics, a nice variety of enemy, and I liked seeing stronger versions of the previous ones later on... It's not the game of the year, but I definitely enjoyed playing it! In case devs read this, here are my thoughts (in next message, stupid characters limit...)
