As of a few hours ago, I have 100% completed the 3 DLCs of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. For those who are looking for a short and simple review, here are my thoughts condensed. The DLCs all add very little to the Wolfenstein franchise or the game itself. It is basically just more of the same. The DLCs add 3 new characters, but have little time with each. They throw a lot at you trying to flesh these characters out, which ends in some of it sticking and some feeling off or forced. The gameplay is exactly the same as base game. If I had to make a suggestion, it would be the following. If you really like the base game of Wolfenstein II, I might suggest buying this on a heavy sale. In my eyes, it isn't worth the base price of 25. Now comes the long version for those who want a bit more of a deep dive without spoilers. Keep in mind that the opinion you are reading is one from a full completionist who started on the 2nd hardest difficulty and didn't turn it down. I bought the season pass for 25 euros, which is split up into 3 "campaigns" of each 3 missions long. Each campaign has its own titular character with a specific antagonist to go up against. The fact that this DLC is split up in three makes it so that you spend very little time with each character. I, wanting to 100% including "Mein Leben", spent somewhat around 3 hours with each character seperate. To MachineGames credit, they did try to flesh out each character in this given time. That approach ended up in the writers throwing a lot at the player, hoping to achieve this goal. In my opinion, the first 2 characters got the good side of the coin. The last character got the bad end of the stick, falling into the trap of having a lot of information (new and background) coming out of nowhere and feeling forced to flesh out or give an emotional response. The game- and gunplay is exactly the same as the base game of Wolfenstein 2, which is both good and bad. The base game is very strong when it comes to making you feel like a war machine when played right. The DLCs keep this feeling, but don't add or build upon it. They do quite the opposite sadly. BJ's skills or perks are split up between the DLC characters. The weapons as well have to be found in their own campaigns, which I do get from a story perspective. It just feels weird having a DLC with somehow 'less' ways to have fun in using the weapons and upgrades you want. The upgrades aren't chosen by the player anymore after finding upgrade parts. There are certain upgrades scattered in the levels that don't carry over from character to character, which feels like a downgrade. I feel like I once again have to address the bugs with this game. All of the are already prevalent in the base game, but a potentiol buyer should be reminded of these annoyances when possibly getting more. I still had several instances of ledges that I can't simply walk over, guns being stuck in my left hand and enemies without hitboxes during my limited hours spent in the 3 campaigns. It did annoy me, but not as too close the game and leave it be. Maybe this is thanks to my completionist nature when it comes to games, but I do get that it would be a deciding factor to regular gamers just looking to shoot some Nazis. Overall, the DLCs are a nice addition to Wolfenstein 2 in the sense that they are exactly like Wolfenstein 2, but with new characters. That is the only difference. There is really no build-up, other perspective or interesting narrative to suck you in or validate there even being a DLC in my opinion. I would only suggest this to big fans of the game that want more of the same during a heavy sale.
