I finally beat Armored Princess, the main campaign after so long.
I wouldn't have expected myself to like this kind of game. You play as a female protagonist, the princess of the previous game. You have a limited amount of resources, as well as limited gather-able resources. You have to avoid enemies as you scurry around collecting them to maximize the benefit of these resources. The tactics are incredibly stressful yet fun. As an example, the very first time I played this I would just rush in, autobattle, buy more units and repeat. Then I ran out of money effectively making it impossible for me to continue since I could no longer buy more units. Avoiding losing units is an incredibly important part of the game. It also reuses assets from the previous game shamelessly. It also has a poor amount of guides and in game explanations for things, only giving an extremely rudimentary explanation.
Yet, in spite of all these things being huge pet peeves, I ended up loving it. They somehow meshed things I hated in a way I was able to overlook and enjoy.
You can choose 3 classes, Warrior, Paladin, or Mage. I chose paladin, and true to form, I ended up being a jack of all trades, master of none. Which I enjoyed.
I explored every island in and out, fought every possible battle I could (except I didn't attack that nice vampire.)
Ended the game at level 52. Despite buying virtually every item in the entire game, I found I was unable to complete most sets, and received an item that could give 10 mind runes after 10 battles when there were no more battles left.
There's also an incredible secret I stumbled over. If you'd like to check it out, do the memory grass quest in Reha at the cave, but instead of just handing over the grass, have Amelie eat it. See what she remembers on her birth.
The game is amazing. A fantastic new experience no matter how many times you attempt it.
Randomly generated enemies, loot, upgrades for the dragon. It almost serves a purpose as a Roguelike. In fact, the defender of the crown streamlines this exactly with unique arenas and challenges. Although the story was kinda dumb in the other campaigns, the gameplay is still solid.
Despite playing and beating the game on normal, I found myself feeling tension and stress all the way through. This is not for the faint hearted or the casual gamers, definitely go for easy difficulty and dont feel too bad about it.
It goes on sale often too.

it's a bit shorter than the other King's Bounty games. 65 hours with the DLC.
And it's the first one to have the island hopping as a mechanic, as well as many QoL improvements over the original. It's a good introduction to the series.

The best in the original series.
You don't need any of the others, really, unless you want achievements (only Warriors of the North and Dark Side have them).
But this one has the best campaign (tied with The Legend, maybe), an editor to create your own maps and challenges and some extra content.
This old gem aged really well. It's still fun. The setting, art style, the writing... All have a very genuine touch to it. Very old school and a bit goofy, but brings a lot of nostalgia.
It's very easy to mod if you want as well. You can unpack the interface_textures file with any file extractor and edit a custom portrait, emblems, etc...
The only issue I see with the game is that it's deceivingly linear. It looks like you can travel around freely but, while you can choose what units to buy and whar spells to use, you have to kill enemies in a certain order and the same happens with visiting new islands. This is all due to the leadership system.
Either way, a really fun game to play. Worth at full price but goes mad cheap on sale (around 2 bucks).
