From the start of this game I found the tutorial was quick. The description that told you the basics of a match were essentially one liners pictured in a thought bubble from your coach. The game showed an immediate hint that the strategy this game has that it could and would be great. The presentation of the battle arena is very much outlined on a grid that you spin around using your mouse wheel. Add in the fanfare theme music that sounds straight out of Monday night football. The bots have different stats and I found that when I was defeated I didn't get upset that all the rules weren't immediatly explained. It is a challenge to keep playing and develop my own strategy in the absence of a game manual that prepares you for everything. The actual stats are sort of self-explanatory. The learning curve I found was enjoyable. This game is set-up to have tournaments and is played with other teams. I really like the tournament maps. There are many options that combine to make a sports-themed strategy game. The game has crisp sound effects and fine graphics. The presentation is excellent.

This is an adorable little mix up of a chess/Into the Breach type combat with some sports management aspects, a la Blood Bowl. It's simple, but a heck of a lot of fun. There's good variety in unit types and a reasonable amount of strategy that goes into where to spend your resources in the single player campaign mode. I like it a lot.

Clatter is a rental turn-based tactic in which you create and manage squads of combat robots of various classes, trying to outplay your opponent. The project is designed for multiplayer, there is even a rating system: if you are a skilled commander, then quickly run up the "ladder" and fight with rivals equal to you. In addition to multiplayer, Clatter also has a career mode.
Rating 7/10

I don't knmow why this game is getting such great reviews. It really isn't worth your time or money. There are MUCH better games out there that do the turn based thing justice.
I liked the look of this game, but my experience of SOLO PLAY has been anything but pleasant. Maybe I'm missing a chunk of gameplay, but here are a few thoughts.
1) Customising. You need the in-game currency (Nuts), but you cannot earn it unless you play multiplayer. Nor can you purchase it, since the buy button does nothing.
2) Custom squads. You can create these per map for multiplayer, but your solo play squad is assigned randomly. Sometimes you get a healer, sometimes you don't.
3) Units can fire/grab/burn over chasms, unless the unit is standing right next to the chasm, in which case, forget it.
4) Burners cannot burn from elevation to a lower elevation. But flippers can flip uphill. And bashers can bash uphill, even though the animation seems to suggest they can't.
5) Unit fame stays at zero - at least throughout the Bronze League.
6) Units start at mid range durability and it descends every time they get killed. There's no way to increase the durability level. Eventually your units are toast, along with any mods you bought them.
7) When playing on normal there doesn't seem to be a way to make enough money to keep going, unless the idea is that you get good enough so you never lose a unit and you never have to buy any mods. But even then the durability problem means that by the time you get to the silver league you are going to be out of cash and/or units. At which point the game just grinds to a halt. Not even a "Game Over" screen. You just can't play the SOLO game any more. Shoddy design.
8) I won the Bronze League, but the game didn't even mention it aside from a notification. No prize money, no new players, no fame, no increase in durability. NOTHING!
9) Because the play area is so small (11 by 11) getting first move is hugely OP. You cannot strategise (as you could in Pit People - a much superior game in my view) because you simply have to inflict damage from the get go. Nothing else matters.
10) Because squad composition is random, and you don't know what units your opponent has, you cannot make a game plan. You just have to make it up as you go along.
I played a little multiplayer. There's a booster unit that actually negates the first move single action limiter, meaning that you can be blasted to pieces before you even get a chance to move. The restricted starting layout means you can never leave enough space to guarantee multiple units will not be targeted at once.
This seems to me to be a badly balanced game that needs a lot of work.

Multiplayer 'Into the Breach' if you're wondering. Simple on the surface but has enough depth to fuel a competitive scene for quite a while with what's already here. Leaderboards, daily missions and map challenges, fully customizable team captain and stadium elements, there's a lot to toy around with for a budget title.
For those of you not into multiplayer, there is a surprisingly robust campaign mode. You can name your captain as well as your team and create a team logo. The logo editor alone is almost worth price of admission. Campaign/solo mode expands on the gameplay with mods for your units, a marketplace for buying and selling mods and units, and various leagues to battle through. You also get three save slots so you or a friend can run other campaigns in tandem.
If you enjoy turn based tactics, you are bound to enjoy this game, especially for the price.

Seeing all the vapid comments about Rust I thought I'd give the game a review for people who want to actually play the game.
Clatter is cute fun, the gameplay is most similar to Into The Breach or chess. The game has a bit of depth with mechanics to account for such as: armor, attack direction, line of sight, and elevation. While they are not the deepest of mechanics, it does make the game feel more unique.
The singleplayer is pretty fun. You get cash for trying to complete challenges and can spend it on upgrades or more robots. So if you want to build a team of only one type of robot or max as much damage as you can, you're able to. As you use your robots their durability goes down and you repair them with scrap collected off of fallen robots. This means every couple of rounds you might have to swap out some robots for others with higher durability. The AI is not the smartest so I won the majority of my games but it can put up a challenge at times. It took me about 5 hours to "beat" the singleplayer but once you reach the highest rank in singleplayer then the gameplay will start to loop while retaining your roster of robots.
The game is pretty dead so if you are getting it for the multiplayer you either need to find a friend to play with or look for a niche of people to play with. I did play a few games with a friend of mine which were fun for about an hour but I do not think I will be going back for more.
Overall the game is simple yet fun. It is a nice strategy game to just chill out to. I bought it for full price and think it was worth it. The game goes on sale for $2 so if you are looking for a cheap short and sweet turn based strategy game then this one is a fine choice.

Like a lot of users I bought this for the clatter helmet in Rust. But after playing the tutorial and several games to meet the half hour requirement to earn the item. I can honestly say, it's pretty good.
I mean if you're a FPS, run 'n gun, raid and destroy type of gamer who doesn't like anything else. This isn't for you. But a lot of you (Rust) have paid close to the cost of the game, if not more for seasonal items and skins. So there's no huge loss if you don't like it.
But the game style and mechanics are pretty quick to pick up on. Each units ability is displayed when you click on it, and the movement is shown on the board. So you don't need to memorize anything. It's just up to you to decide what to do with it, be prepared for the opponents next move and when the board shrinks. The tags say it all. Strategy and Turn Based.
Do I suggest it?
Are you into turn based strategy? If yes. Then absolutely.
Do you just want the Clatter Helmet? Wait until it's on sale. But when you buy it. Actually give it a chance. Don't just AFK for a half hour.
