Ashworld is incredibly addictive. It's got such an engrossing enviorment to play in and survive the monsters and assholes in cars trying to run you over all the while forgetting you have a FLAMETHROWER and have been using cars to run 'em over and blow cars up. Feels like Red Dead-type enviorment with a distinct world that feels very cool to spend time in. Great maps, fun game play that keeps you on your toes. I can't wait to sink more time into doing donuts in a car until 30 car gang decides to join in and kill me. Ashworld is a game you won't regret. FIVE STARS *****

Nope, a few points: - game crashes when i select 'Settings' in the menu - it is a PC game that uses arrow keys by default, not WASD, the ARROW KEYS - Maybe WASD-keys are used differently, i can't know because 'Settings' crash the game - i cant rebind, because: 'Settings' crash the game - So the default input scheme is: ArrowKeys, X, Z, Mouse I'll think you get it, maybe if this stuff is fixed ill reconsider, for now i'll get a refund

Absolutely not. I got it expecting a certain kind of game from the screenshots and video, and instead I got something else entirely with terrible floaty controls with a difficulty that goes from zero to no seemingly at random. Maybe you'll like it. I did not. It's less Dies The Fire and more arcade-style Mad Max, so keep that in mind. I got my refund.

Super buggy when using an xbox controller to the point of being so annoyed its not enjoyable. It's also lacking so much content to be sold for $13. I know its a pixel game and what not, but its missing stuff. It needs the meat to it's skin and bones.

Very bland, empty worlds with little to no polish. Could've been so much more. It feels like its in an Alpha stage. The only good thing about this game is cartoon ASH in the title card.

When you first start up the game it throws you right into gameplay without any difficulty options or anything like that. You could be excused for thinking the game was set to baby mode... and also completely unfinished. The gameworld is really empty early on but you are still allowed to go around exploring, something that adds nothing to the game because of how monotone it gets. You're much better off just going for the main quests as soon as they become available because by doing so the map fills out with new locations and such, a very weird design choice I must say because it drags down the early game a ton having it be mostly empty desert with copy+paste buildings scattered here and there. The balancing is just completely off. Enemies basically hurt you a percentage of health if even that per attack. Your attacks too are very weak, however jumping on enemies Super Mario style does huge damage and is easily the best way to deal with enemies in the sideview sections. You also quickly start swimming in ammo and supplies even before leveling up your scavenging. It wasn't until the four hour mark that enemies started doing some serious damage, but then they also start to swarm you every time you set foot in a car so you can barely move around the map. Those unrelenting attacks keep stopping you since you need to step out of the car to fight, you can't escape and while the cars can shoot they only do so forward and this games has pretty wide arc for turning so good luck hitting a single shot. Multiple quests at the same time? One might break because it thinks both the quest items are one and the same even though they should be totally different objects, but you only got one thing and it ain't giving you another. Quests where multiple areas on the map is said to be shown but there appears no quest markers on the map so you gotta go back and forth while the previously mentioned.

As much I love some games done by this developer, I cannot recommend Ashworld because it is still look like a work in progress which might remain like this more or less (If you follow Orangepixel YouTube channel, you'll probably got the impression that more games are now currently developed, rather than having this one improved / worked on). Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my 1.2h of playing Ashworld (so far) and I most likely going play more when time permits. It has a good concept and switches from a top-down shooter to a platformer game with the "signature" pixel graphics from Orangepixel. But I had a few issues when playing that prevent me from giving a thumb up: - Quest marker disappearing on the map - That leaves you roaming the map having to do another side quest to hope triggering the active quest. Not sure if I missed something there or if it was an actual bug... - The lack of hints or possibly a tutorial. I ended my gaming session on what I think is a radioactive room without actually knowing what I could do to prevent radiation to affect me (I would believe there is some sort of suit that I can get somewhere - I did skip my first or second encounter pointing me to a radioactive building and not to go inside) - The control could be improved. It felt hard to move from a room with platforms moving around. The car control is a disaster with an Xbox controller to a point it is easier to walk than trying to figure out why the car is not steering. - The overall mechanic to force you to sleep, find food and find a shelter every day is not really working forcing you to travel the map constantly to find a shelter. Maybe the span of a day could be longer to actually let the player explore more.

This game is an interesting hybrid. On the one hand, I've seen it described as a survival game, and it's definitely a platformer (at least in building interiors) -- and I'm not a big fan of either style. On the other hand, it's an open-world game, and "pick up and play" (i.e., you can spend 15 or 30 minutes on it and most likely have something to show for it), and I love both of those styles. I'm still early into it (and have restarted a few times as I learn more about how it works), but I've seen enough to confidently recommend it. The initial stages aren't too punishing -- at least once you know what's going on -- though you should expect to die and take it in stride while learning the ropes (you can continue from a checkpoint if you're non-hardcore like me). Graphics are very low-res pixel art but they have a ton of character. Ran into one bug that the developer patched within two days of my bug report. Also ran into a basement I couldn't get out of, but I can't say whether it was an oubliette or just my own failure to git gud. The jumping in general requires a little practice but is not bad once you get a feel for it. Damage inflicted on you in building interiors is fairly light so you have room to screw up. Beginner tips: * The game will say you shouldn't get too attached to your car, but try to keep it intact for the first couple missions; park a little way from the mission objective so it doesn't take collateral damage when you get into fights. You will have some distances to travel that will be impractical on foot unless you can take shelter in a building. * To refuel the car, stand near it and Use your fuel can in your inventory. Don't refuel until the car runs out of gas, or you may get shortchanged. * If you're initially timid, be aware that plain old fisticuffs can be quite effective. But don't go into the darkness and get mobbed. Wait for morning. The clock runs fast enough that it won't take long for the sun to rise. * The developer was kind enough to respond to my begging for tips in the Steam Discussions; check out his response for a few additional ideas. If you're really interested in the game, check out the developer's website for some blog entries on how the sausage is made. It was fascinating to me but could be too much detail for some players. * There are some YouTube videos that show how other people approach the game. Watching a couple of these was very useful to me. One commenter noted that Energy in this game (replenished by food and water) is similar to how a shield or body armor works in many other games. Haven't played enough to know whether this is an exact parallel but it seems right. Looking forward to playing a lot more of this.

An open-world game for people who don't have enough time for open-world games. Drive cars, fight baddies, explore buildings, sleep in your house after eating a tasty sandworm burger. I like that you can enter any building and the game switches to a side-view exploration platformer then. I like that you can own a lovely 8-pixel dog. I like the chaotic gunplay. I like the atmosphere. I like the danger of wandering during the night. Well, I like a lot of things about this game. Most of all, I love that I can hop in for just 15 minutes and still make some progress (and have fun, obviously). It doesn't require such a gigantic time investment like most open-world games.
