Danganronpa V3 is, in many ways, a massive upgrade over the first two mainline games. The cases are fun, the dialogue is fun, and the exploration aspect feels both meaningfully expanded and more cohesive. The characters are all, at a minimum, well-written, and some are extremely well-written. The gameplay itself in the trials comes with all the best parts of the older games, improvements on the mediocre parts, and with additions that are perhaps a little gimmicky but have some pretty interesting depth. For example, without spoiling anything, you gain the ability to explicitly lie in this game. Overall, I give it an 7.5/10, but it's hard to explain what I disliked about it without spoiling things a little. I shall go into it all below, but will try and not go terribly in-depth (so apologies if the review is a bit vague). But if you want a truly blind experience of the game, stop reading here. Danganronpa as a series is, among many things, a study on nihilism and absurdism. Each game has several themes - friendship, betrayal, human extremes - but the part that sticks out to me the most in each installment is how they deal with the question of continuing to go on even when you fear - and even when you KNOW - that it is pointless to do so. The games in this series are an ideological progression. In 1, the answer is taking up the mantle of Hope to battle Despair. In 2, it's more nuanced, with an acceptance that life is a mixture of hope and despair and that continuing forward regardless is most important. In V3, the ideological progression appears to have reached its nihilistic apex, clumsily deconstructing itself in a way that might well preclude future entries, and offering an ending that wholeheartedly commits to my least favorite writer's technique - creating a meta-commentary about how the story/ending is bad WITHIN the story itself, thereby pre-emptively critiquing the player for critiquing the game. The ending psychologically affected me, alright - and a solid 80% of that emotion was genuine irritation. As a deconstruction of its genre, it didn't feel insightful or biting or even really self-critiquing as much as it just felt dishonest. Oh, but don't fear - while I was going "This ending sucks" in my head, a character in-game was going "This ending sucks," so it's actually self-referential and critiquing ME! So, yeah: in my opinion, the ending is just weirdly underwhelming and maybe even a little insulting to the heartfelt messages of the previous games. I understood perfectly well what the game was doing, I promise I did not miss the point. It certainly repeats some of the points it's trying to make a dozen times, so it's hard to miss. Additionally, the ending was also very fanservicey (not in a nsfw way) in a way that made me feel a little dirty - "Is THIS what the developers thought the fans of the previous two games would like?" Maybe the scary part is that they might be right - I have no idea what the popular conception of this game is. I'm really of a mixed - but certainly majority positive - opinion on the class trials in this game. V3 features a couple of my absolute favorite class trials of the series, but also some of the worst. What they all have in common is a degree of artificiality. There were at least a couple times in every class trial where all I could think of was "Ah, so the writers thought they were really clever for coming up with THIS one," which I rarely felt in the first two games. Nonetheless, after a rather annoying start and a rather annoying end, I can't deny that in the middle ~25 hours of my ~30 hour playthrough, I had a lot of fun and experienced some heartfelt moments. It feels a little bitter in retrospect because of the ending hours, but at the time, I enjoyed it a lot. There were some great short-term and long-term mysteries to ponder, and most of the time - 7.5/10 of the time - I felt like I got a satisfactory answer.

W ending. This game wraps up the whole series in a way that leaves room for growth but also leaves other players with a sense of closure and satisfaction that the series may have ended. I am very late to finishing all the games but I really appreciated the time and work others have put into this game and everything connected to the story.

By far, my favorite game in the franchise. D2 is a close second but V3 was the closing deal for me when I saw the pack was on discount. I already watched others play this, but I bought it and played it again cause i liked the game so much, even when all the twists are revealed. No regrets, now I can experience Kokochi’s love suit on my own. Due to many reasons but the most obvious is character writing. V3 has the most enjoyable dialogue out of the 3 main games. Characters are unique, full of personalities. There’re a lot of dynamic between the cast as a whole, not just with the protagonist. ALSO, Kokichi Ouma. I have never been so sentimental towards a character like I was to Kokichi. God call me a fangirl but this guy makes up 90% why i bought this game. I thought it couldn’t get better than Nagito. I LOVE danganronpa’s antagonist. V3 also has really good set of cases that would challenge your mind. The worst case was at least decent, and the twists were amazing. The ending is a really risky move, and I don’t hate it. It’s creative and clever. But also shatters everything you know about the game beforehand. You could also call it lazy due to the devs creating too many loose ends they couldn’t explain. But it was fulfilling and I wasn’t left empty by the end. So in a way, the dev succeeded in whatever messages they’re trying to convey. I would recommend it just for Kokichi alone, but the game itself was really good and what got me really into the danganronpa series.

I honestly thought this game was gonna be like, way worse because of how many people looked down upon V3 game wise and plot wise, even the cast. Out of all casts, aside from SDR2, this was my favorite cast. It's dynamic and there's a lot of progression. I also lowkey cried when Kaito died (totally not biased). I didn't get bored of this game, I was really intrigued and the ending was so much more tolerable than dragging through Trigger Happy Havoc or Goodbye Despair's ending, but maybe I'm just biased in this whole thing because I think Kaito Momota is a baddie. Anyway, with all seriousness, this game was super enjoyable. It's a pain to get through if you don't have a PS/Xbox controller so that's my only complaint. Also sometimes lags or has issues with saving. Other than that, I don't have many complaints. I thought it was a really good game. !!!!!!!!

This... this is without a shadow a doubt one of my favorite games I have ever played. When it comes to the Danganronpa Series as a whole, I've praised every title on what I liked about it as I've completed them. And when it comes to this game, which as of today I feel comfortable with where I've stopped, (Main Story/UTDP/Love Suite Mode) and I can say without a shadow of a doubt this is like a top 3 game for me, behind Deltarune and Fire Emblem 3 Houses. V3 has the best roster of characters out of all of them for me, and it's not close. In the first two games as well as UDG, there was always that one character I loathed, this game didn't have one because I genuinely like all of them. Granted I have my favorites, but none of them were inherently bad, at least to me. Everyone had their moments, and I love every character for what they bring to the grand dining table that is this game. Plus all the free times and love hotel scenes were fantastic as well... for the most part. (Ahem... Tsumugi Love Suite Scene) Outside of Case 3, I liked all of the cases unconditionally, even the ending which I've heard isn't the most popular. Case 1 is Iconic, Case 2 is challenging, Case 3 was kinda boring to me but I liked all of the fakeouts, Case 4 was my favorite as it usually is, Case 5 was brilliant and kept me guessing at every turn, and Case 6 honestly was worth the 4 hours of my life I spent on it, an ending I genuinely like. The main story is perfect in every way to me outside of chapter 3 for me. I've praised Danganronpa, and Takada for how many bangers are on this soundtrack and honestly, I think there's a reason Danganronpa Music is in the back of so many videos, including my own. Some of my favorites are "REAL/FICTION" "Hope Searching" and "EXISAL TRIBE" to name a few. This is also out of all of the games, by far the funniest. I took a whopping 1341 screenshots for this game... I took like 50 for Danganronpa 2. This game is really damn funny most of the time. Some of the side content like Ultimate Talent Development Plan and Monokuma's Tower or whatever it's called were honestly whatever. But MAN did the Love Suite Mode have some good moments, and I honestly thought it was cool to see a bunch of scenes I would have missed it if wasn't for it's existence so I can appreciate it for that. Finally, Art Style? Best in the series hands down. In conclusion, my only real qualms with this game are... 1, the game becomes 10 times better if you've played the other games, and since most of these games are really long... that could be a problem. 2, pretty much about 70% of chapter 3 was just a huge bruh moment. And 3, there's no V3 anime. V3 is single handedly the reason why Danganronpa is probably my favorite franchise of games... ever. Thanks for reading this random review on steam, and if I were to say anything else... play Danganronpa V3.
