Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) Artwork overtakes gameplay. The game follows the script of a fictional Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movie, adapted into a beat 'em up video game. From the start, the artwork steals the show. The environments are bursting with detail, and every prop is beautifully animated, making every screen feel unique. There are also a lot of great references to the movies. After such a labor of love in the presentation, I struggle to understand why the gameplay was left so bare. With so few attacks and enemy types, the gameplay gets repetitive quickly. Worth at a discount.

I honestly got stuck on the 2nd boss and I wasn't too thrillled to keep going on. No idea what I have to do to beat it, the game didn't give me any clues and I wasn't invested enough to find out. So this is a beat'em up with mini games. Everything not regarding gameplay, this game does great. Graphics are nice, soundtrack is good, storyline is funny, the whole atmosphere is very well done with the Spencer & Hill theme. Gameplay is bad. It's really bad. The beat'em up which is the main meat of the game is really badly done. Each character has basically 3 moves and a parry which you can basically ignore (and Terence Hill's "Jump over enemy" move is pretty much useless). There are no proper combos, no jumping, no supers, no reach strategies, no crowd controlling, no pacing, no flow, nothing. Hitboxes are kinda janky with enemies hiting you while not standing in front of you (and you can't hit them on that position). While enemies are really varied on their sprites, they all feel the same. No different attacks, no different behavior... you are just brainless hitting the attack button and moving forward. And the mini-games, from up to where I played were either too easy, too boring, too uninspired, or all of this together. Rythm games, Reflex games, quickly push buttons games and stuff like that. The racing stage was really well done and it would be great if it wasn't so slow and easy.... Gameplay wise, nothing works in the game to me. I feel the game is more trying to be funny than fun, and if I wanted just funny, I could stay just watching Spencer & Hill movies.

Slaps and Beans 1 is a love letter to classic Bud & Terence films—punchy, funny, and a bit wobbly. It’s like watching them brawl through a video game: messy, but you can’t help but laugh the whole time. 🍿👊🎮 Follow my curator page for more punches, laughs, and chaotic brawls straight out of a Bud & Terence classic: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/42602807-Osiris-Reviews/
