Burn Zombie Burn! Reviews

Welcome to the char-grilled world of Burn Zombie Burn, where the best type of undead is barbequed undead. The goals are simple: keep Bruce alive, as he tries to keep Daisy alive, and get the highest score possible. Standing (well, ambling) in your way is a never ending horde of the rotting, stinking and stupid undead.

Cute game and a decent diversion for 30 minutes. If you are looking for something to crush some zombies for a very short period of time, it's ok. But as a game, it does not stand up. It is too short and there is little point in playing (no progression to speak of).

This is an objectively bad game. The controls are a mess, everything feels clunky, and you just get bombed by random zombie spawns that damage you before you can really move around. Guns feel bleh, visually it's got all the appeal of a newgrounds game. Do not for *any* reason pay $10 for this, as there are better free games on mobile even. I hate leaving negative reviews, because it means I've played a VERY bad game.

Decent little dual stick shooter. Critics are brutal on it, but it's fun. Might wanna pick it on a sale though. Do me a favor, do it, do it.

This game has the perfect hook in theory but the execution leaves a *lot* to be desired. *The technical issues* Playing with a keyboard and mouse is an effort in frustration, instead of binding the mouselook direction to your local position it's global so as you move your cursor drifts further from you and makes aiming incredibly painful and frustrating. The hit box detection is all over the place and most melee weapons will damage you more times than the enemy especially with the "random" interrupt that enemies can cause on collision. LastLy the enemy AI that is apparently scared of fire will sometimes respond to fire and flee and other times continue to run straight through your fire and attack you. It's seemingly random as I could not reproduce the effects in any way (distance, direction, speed etc). Lastly for some reason you cannot fullscreen the game which makes playing it painful as you mouse out of the window constantly. *The Gameplay* The levels are all the same and the drops from the enemies are barren, this mystical TNT that will help push your score sometimes won't drop for a 15minute game making the content and scoring slow, boring and tedious. I was amused for a few minutes and then deeply saddened. Nor worth your time, there's a lot better out there.

More than ten years later and this game still slays. Zombie killing made fun.

This was in my backlog for years. I probably should have left it there. The whole game is so tedious. You have to kill so many zombies just to get a bronze medal. Forget about the other medals. Your hand will wear out before you get a gold. Progression and achievement in this game requires mind-numbing repetition. It gets pretty boring rather quickly.

Good arcade shooter akin to Smash TV, BUT... some niggly oversights stop it being truly fun. Firstly, won't go full screen, always seems to be windowed. Secondly, doesn't seem to properly support my Xbox game pad (no aiming!). Thirdly, the explosions damage you AFTER they have already gone off which is really counter-intuitive. Great styling though. Just needs tweaking.

I bought this during the Steam Summer Sale 2017 and thought I was getting a great bargain at 80% off. The game looks incredibly fun, and I was hoping to add the 100k zombies killed achievement to my profile after some time. But after loading the game itself, it crashes every single time I try to launch it and play. Come to find out, the Devs have abandoned it a long time ago. Yet it's still being sold to unsuspecting suckers like me :( Stay away from this broken, abandoned game.

Short version: Pros: + Decent in short bursts + Weapon and zombie variety + Great combo concept + Pop-culture references Cons: - Weak graphic design - Poorly implemented mechanics - Unfair difficulty - Shallow, boring gameplay - Wonky hitboxes “Long” version: Just like Atom Zombie Smasher, Burn Zombie Burn! is one of my first Steam games. It was developed by doublesix and published by P2 Games. While I thought it was a somewhat good game back then, I recently came back to it in order to 100% it and, sadly, it does not hold up. The game does not feature a story - the protagonist is here to kill zombies and chew bubble gum and he is all out of gum (this is an actual quote in the game). While it has some cute references to pop culture, such as Michael Jackson's Thriller, They Live or Night of the Living Dead, Burn Zombie Burn! does not provide any compelling characters; but honestly , it doesn't have to, twin-stick shooters don't need a story - they live and die by their gameplay. Unfortunately, the gameplay is only serviceable. The controls are responsive enough, but every mechanic around them is poorly implemented. Burn Zombie Burn! features a high risk - high reward concept in its combo system - with the right mouse button you can set zombies on fire, making them way faster and more dangerous, but at the same time, worth way more points (it is mandatory to use this technique for metals). Thing is, this mechanic is too unfair. The zombie hitboxes are all over the place - sometimes one does the attack animation, you are far away, but you still get hit. On the other hand, you have some zombie attacks clipping through you and dealing no damage. You get some weapon variety but most guns feel underpowered - the baseball bat, for example, is terrible. You will get damaged constantly when using it because of the lackluster hit detection. Zombie variety is good; some zombie types are quite humorous - zombies in tutus, zombies in rugby gear that charge you, etc. The only enemy type I did not like was the dynamite zombies, who self-detonate on you. Even though they also kill other zeds in the area when killed, they are too fast and too plentiful. You also have a few other game modes but they are not good. One in particular, where your girlfriend, Daisy, is in a car chewing bubble gum and you have to defend it was a pain in the neck. Graphics are subpar - while cartoony, they lack a distinct style. It looks like an early PS2 game. You get to visit some typical zombie-movie environments such as a graveyard, a drive-in theater, a military base and an underground laboratory, but they look very generic and lack visual detail. Music is there, I guess. Not only is it not memorable, it gets muffled by zombie groans and all the shooting. Sound effects have low quality and lack impact. Burn Zombie Burn! Is somewhat enjoyable for 20 minutes at a time but you are better off playing other games, such as Assault Android Cactus+ or Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. It aged poorly and lacks replay value, making me unable to recommend it. Even on a sale, you can certainly find a plethora of better titles on Steam. Final score: 4.5 out of 10.
