SENRAN KAGURA ESTIVAL VERSUS Reviews
Thrust into a parallel dimension, our buxom shinobi prepare for a new kind of beach-side battle. Can the islands’ hosts be trusted? Will the other schools play fair? Will there be time to enjoy the beach before the fighting starts? Will anyone manage to keep their clothes intact?

Finally, they seemingly stopped taking the (badly written) plot seriously and embraced the stupidity almost wholly.

It's the best game of the series. It has a lot of characters and is fun.

I feel so very bad for those who shun this franchise and consider it only fanservice. Like how the lead in the thrash metal band Slayer described this (except they were talking about album covers), the fanservice--although an undeniable aspect to the franchise--serves more so like a barrier, or a gate. Those who do not accept it or are stopped by it are never truly meant to experience this franchise. Those who accept it as part of the experience will open the doors to one of the most emotionally driven stories I have ever stumbled across and had the pleasure of experiencing. I wasn't able to cry for over 6 years; yet, this game shed my tears from the empathy I felt for these characters. Multiple times over, and across other games within the same franchise. Every time a character gets choked up, I get choked up too. The beauty in the community of friendship and life-long bonds these shinobi create among themselves, separate of their sides (evil or good, or both/neither), is one of the most awe-inspiring aspects of these stories. They come together and protect the innocent, protecting smiles and laughs, and like Sayuri says, while knowing "a shinobi's fate is death". I cannot count on either of my hands how many genuine life lessons I have learned from this series. I have no doubts that I will struggle majorly in trying to find anything even close to this in terms of its beauty, the ambition, the pain, the empathy, the joy, and the sense of family whenever I open up the game and start a mission. Homura's Crimson Squad has especially given me a sense a family, and Mirai has helped me become a better version of myself inside and out. When the credits rolled, I couldn't help but smile the whole way through. The most warm smile I have ever given. These characters and the stories mean so much to me now. If this ever somehow reaches the devs (for which, I hope it will), I thank all of you for bestowing this gift of a story for those who can see past the fanservice and find so much more--to find strength, courage, love, compassion, grief, regret, laughs, smiles, and tears of both sadness and happiness. You all have changed my life forever, and so have the characters. I know it sounds kind of silly for me to write something like this here, but one day, I would love to meet Mirai. Even if it was just a 3d recording of her model with a voice and whatnot, I would still probably cry anyways. Thank you all, for this opportunity and these experiences and life lessons I will carry on for the rest of my life. Maybe one day, if I have or adopt kids, I will not hesitate to share this with them. Thank you once again. -- HISTORY NOBLE
