Gave this game a try and honestly just couldn't get into it.
I felt lost, confused and felt pretty boring.
I could see were the game direction went but just isn't for me.
Its not a bad game, just isn't a game for me.

absolver is a complex, pvp-oriented, martial-arts inspired fighting game that died on arrival because most gamers are stupid. they do not seek challenge or player expression. when a game gives you roadblocks, they don't play it. when a game gives you options, they look up meta builds. absolver allows you to create your own fighting style by putting together different attacks in order to form combos. the game features a stance system, offering right-front, left-front, right-rear and left-rear facing positions from which you can initiate attacks, and many attacks will end in a stance that is different from the initial one. the combat is a masterclass in player expression. being able to combine different motions in order to create your own fighting style is about as close as it gets to complete freedom in combat while remaining in static animation territory (physics are hard to get right).
players get a wide array of clothing and armour to choose from, allowing for an astronomical number of combinations thanks to absolver's nine equipment slots (head, elbow, shoulder, inner top, outer top, hand, waist, leg and foot). lots of asymmetrical pieces, pleasant colours and often loose-fitting clothes make this game's fashion style stand out.
absolver has a beautiful watercolour-like art style, depicting old structures that have seen better days, calm forest paths, massive temples and highly refined, decorated and gilded environments. sadly, there's little to explore, but what is there is dense in detail and looks amazing.
all of the environments feature detailed soundscapes, from birds singing to machinery moving, from wood creaking to cave ceilings dripping. the environmental soundscapes are complemented by the game's minimalist original soundtrack, featuring lots of different string instruments, blending flamenco, arabic and indian sounding melodies, a few woodwinds, bells and chimes and some nice percussive rhythms to match the rhythm of fights. a final note on the audio side of things, fights sound great. the impact sounds for punches and bashing weapons are heavy. the cutting sounds for swords are okay. these are sort of hard to get right because blades don't make much noise as they cut through flesh, except for when they hit a bone, so knowing how difficult it is to represent cutting sounds, i'll give them a pass.
heavy recommend.

Definitely one of my favorite games. I love the battle deck mechanic I don't need to remember what buttons to press to perform a certain move you just put it in the deck and press one button and your good. The fighting is very satisfying, the hits feel good. The way you learn new moves is great in my opinion it makes you feel like a actual martial artist. I wish more games had fighting mechanics like this. I would love to see more games like this in the future
