I'm usually not a big fan of RTS games, in fact this might be the only RTS game I actually like. With that being said, Halo Wars is one of the better RTS games I've played in my life. When I first played Halo Wars back on the xbox 360, I remember being blown away by how fun the game was. Revisiting the game as an adult now, I can still say the same. I had an absolute blast playing this, and LOVED every minute of it. The campaign was very good and exciting, and the skirmish mode was both challenging but also very rewarding. 9/10 game, highly recommend!

Oldie but a goodie. I remember buying an xbox back in the day just for this game. Still good and challenging as well.

Honestly in terms of being a 'Halo game' this is the 3rd best game out of the franchise to me. Some of the super units are broken in a bad way and Gauss Hog strategy reigns supreme and it's a console RTS with all the limitations that has, but it's still amazing fun. Ensemble shouldn't have been killed for making this game and for that Fuck Microsoft. It honestly feels better than HW2 because the environments and design is actually different and plays off the strengths of the factions in universe instead of going way too hard on the rock, paper, scissors mechanics. And the fact that every mission in the this campaign has a cutscene. Honor Ensembles legacy and play this, and when you're done go play Age of Empires.

Love army builder games, especially one made from one of my all time favourite series of sci fi FPS's. I wish the sequel to this game was also avaliable on steam too!

I only played through the campaign for this game in coop so if you want to know about the skirmishes then you'll need someone else's opinion.
Summary: I'm not deep into Halo, but if you are this could be worth it since it goes on sale pretty cheap, the game is older and I believe originated on consoles so the gameplay reflects that. It was an okay RTS and a coop campaign is nice but I won't be playing it again.
This game is fairly old and was originally made for console and some of that really shows through. There are pretty limited unit types and the unit cap of the game is fairly small. The bases are similar to the original battle for middle earth games where you have a central base and it has build slots around it (up to 6). Quite a few campaign missions will let you build other bases on designated areas throughout the map, and some even have that as the objective. Since the slots also need to be used for supply to buy units and reactors to get stronger units it ended up with every base being specialized to one unit type for us. This with only having 2 real army types felt like fairly low unit variety but it worked for what it is.
The path finding was infuriating, units constantly get stuck on each other or start moving the other way trying to get around each other. For some reason infantry seem to have the same hit box as vehicles and because they move slower your tanks can easily end up creeping across the battlefield stuck behind your infantry.
The missions were a bit of a mix too, there are 15 of them, the first 5 and last 5 felt pretty short and singularly focused. The middle 5 seemed more involved with potentially multiple goals to achieve. The game does a terrible job of explaining what you need to do though and I'm not sure I even know what the end of level was triggered by for 1 or 2 of the missions. The restarts we had were largely because we'd finally realized what the game wanted us to do and we restarted because the way we'd spent the mission up until that point was detrimental to the goals.

This game rocks. Takes me back to when I was a kid putting hundreds of hours into this game. The enhanced graphics are amazing too.
