You play as an ape on a rampage to escape a lab and fuck shit up while jamming to a bitchin jazz soundtrack that dynamically responds to your gameplay. What the fuck else do you want?

Ya like Jazz? Ape out is a fun (if short) playful exploration of procedural music generation. You cant beat, beating down your enemies to the beat of the drum. Crashing, symbols smashing heads to your own cacophonous rhythm.

Doesn't come across it at first glance but this is a rage game. Really feels like false advertising with how fucking annoying this game is.

If you are not getting this while on sale for not even 3€ you are a fool! Fantastic, fast paced, violent, incredible "interactive" music (please play it with headphones). The main game is quite short (I beat it in less than two hours) but then you unlock the harder versions of the same level and oh boy beating them is exhilerating! A must buy for when it's on sale!

EDIT: I just finished three of the discs, full disclosure. This is a love letter to fans of Hotline Miami! The levels get fascinating with stealth levels and clever labyrinthine designs that allow you to trick your captives, so the "shove and kill" play doesn't get old at all. I love that there is a rhythm element to this as well -- the jazz percussion hypes up the more violent you get (i.e. when the captives go splat, a loud cymbal crashes) and softer the more you hide from them. The embrace of improv melds so well with the seemingly random nature of the level designs, it's just a perfect cherry on top. And if you're bored of interior levels, the third disc introduces an outdoors environment !! Also I'm terrible at this game lol.

Simple fun game about an ape smashin' shit. It feels good, it gets hard and I enjoy speedrunning it in my own time :)

One of the best indie games I have played in a long time. The premise is simple: this is a top-down game where you control a gorilla navigating through various levels of different shapes and sizes while evading what I would describe as policemen trying to shoot you down. Aside from the basic gameplay, the game is structured around four jazz albums, with each level playing in sync with the tempo of the jazz song at that moment. The entire game consists of four double-sided albums that you must clear to progress, and it executes this concept brilliantly. The art design is one of the standout features that sets this game apart from other indie titles. It masterfully blends contrasting colors, shifting from noir to vibrant orange within each level, giving the game a distinct and visually striking look. 10/10. Will definitely recommend.
