A beautiful slice of classic Americana folktales with a phenomenal soundtrack that truly brings the experience to life. The stories and characters illustrate the spectrum of the fledgling American dream and what can deconstruct it.

When the developer is satisfied with the brilliant play of adding an unachievable achievement because the place where the water tastes like wine doesn't exist for whatever artistic pursuit they are seeking for, you need to suffer from: 1. BUGS There is a well-known bug that could lead to unseen stories not showing while the icon labels them on the map. There are tricks that have some chances to recover those stories but not guaranteed, and some stories will be forever missing. The main purpose of this game is collecting stories while a bug that will cause you missing stories has been there for years with no fix lol No one knows what would cause the bug, and I have played this game twice because during my first playthrough one of my missing stories was the last story to unlock the Carnivale achievement. During my second playthrough, I purposely avoided going to the campfire to talk to NPCs (so the story I collected wouldn't evolve to other versions) and I didn't take the train or hitchhike (no refreshing the map), and I finally successfully collected all the stories. The funny thing is that with the complete collection of stories, I still saw some unseen story icons on my map, so I guess the number of unseen story icons is just greater than the actual number of stories, and ofc I have no clue why the dev did that. Some texts glitched out and became some random pixels during my first playthrough, so I never knew that when you entered a campfire it would show the character’s name, chapter title and the author for the character’s story until I almost completed the game :) 2. Boring gameplay This game is basically a walking simulator; my game hours look impressive while 70% of my time was wasted on walking on the map, and the map itself is boring with little to no stuff to interact with. Also, the character's walking speed is pretty slow even with the whistle buff. All you are doing in this game is collecting stories and telling them to people. The idea that retelling a story might change the contents and create another version of it is cool, but it is such a shame that all the retellings only have a title with no content. This game has great music and good artstyle, but I don’t think it is a good game, so I won’t recommend it. Maybe just buy the OST instead.

incredible voice acting, beautiful soundtrack that i listen to casually, gorgeous artwork and a compelling theme/story. artistically it's a masterpiece that the devs clearly put their heart and soul into, and i applaud their message with the unobtainable achievement. It isn't without flaws, however - the graphics struggle to keep up with itself, it's a slow grind, and there are nitpicky issues I have with the map and UI. but overall, I recommend it as an experience and a piece of art. It's worth a little jank for a story told.
