The Sport Spinning Trout Pack contains a light Sport edition 8'2" Aurora rod and a corresponding Prima reel. The outfit is suitable for multi-species fishing in deep water. Interestingly, the Aurora sport edition supports lighter lures than the regular version of the rod does, and it can even accommodate 1/5 ounce nano spoons. On the heavier end, I can also fish with small 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits and skirted jigs (don't try to put soft plastic trailers on the 1/2 ounce lures because the lure is already max weight). The fast retrieve speed of the Prima reel coupled with the long length of the rod helps when fishing deep with spinners, spoons and jigs. One tip when using an outfit with a long rod like this one is to physically back up a few paces with the "S" key when setting the hook on a fish. The rod tip has to travel through a long arc length to be able to set the hook, which can be imagined as a portion of the circumference of a circle with a radius equal to the length of the rod. Backing up while performing a strike helps to reduce both the distance that the rod tip must be raised to set the hook and the likelihood that the fish will toss the lure before the hook is set. This technique becomes absolutely necessary if the fish strikes a lure while moving toward the angler, as evidenced by strikes that do not increase the tension meter. Fish often strike topwater lures while pursuing the lure toward the angler, which is why I would recommend complementing this outfit with a shorter rod, possibly with the addition of a slower reel, for topwater applications. Regarding the supplied line, it has been pointed out by another reviewer that the 10 pound fluorocarbon in this DLC exceeds the max drag setting of the reel. The practical significance of this is that a large fish could damage or even break the reel if it runs out the line, because the line will not break before the reel does. In the developers' defense, the Prima reel has an unusual drag configuration (8.8 pound max drag with 8 levels of drag). 10 pound test fluorocarbon, in my opinion, suits the reel nicely because you can set the drag to 7 out of 8 without bringing the tension bar too far into the red zone when playing a fish. However, if you are fishing in places where you could hook a larger fish, you should play it safe and go with 8 pound test line to avoid the possibility of reel damage, while reducing the drag tension accordingly (6 or 7 out of 8).
