If you like scavenging and a storyline, this is your game. I had only crashed once in the remastered, which is pretty good, I personally did not encounter bugs.

The game was fun and everything till i got stuck and couldn't continue because of a glitch that hasn't been fixed since the game released 18 years ago.

Easily one of the most classic Singleplayer story driven games ever imo! The Bioshock series is a series worth playing and the first still easily touches my gaming heart still to this day! The gameplay is replayable, story is exciting and no matter how old the game is, it's stylish graphics for it's time is still fun to look back on.

Its one of the all time greats and while political and definitely has its slant its portrayed in an interesting manner where the villain is just against anyone outside his ideology, but it makes no value judgement with preachy messages. There are 2 different outcomes, that I know of, based on actions in game and both have supporting NPCs that continue the story based on that decision. Its a simplistic fps compared to something like Crisis or Battlefield but it has depth with all the Plasmids you can load and different Tonics to play more how you like. Want to freeze folks and shatter them with a wrench, you can do that. Want to knock folks down with gusts of wind and pepper them with a tommy gun, you are covered. Want to electrocute folks in water or various other situations, all good, you do you. This is what a fun game should be. No one should copy it line for line but I was hoping they would improve on the formula as time went on but sadly I have heard nothing since the 3rd game came out which was the least liked by many, myself included. The third game had the best NPCs but the least amount of depth. Better main character but the gameplay didn't improve on anything other than a rail movement system that wasn't much of an improvement. So, play the original if you like fun games with a wacky story. For its time i would say this is a top notch game others should want to emulate but the industry completely sprinted away from this type of thing. Sad.

Fun Game and concept is unique and interesting. I played this game through before on older graphics as I had it on CD. I wanted to see the Remastered version and it was worth the money for a second time around so I bought the whole bundle.

Bioshock is one of the juggernauts of the medium simply for it's excellence in world building, atmosphere and narrative. This is the game that every single person should play just to show why the marriage of an outstanding narrative and gameplay makes video games the best medium to engage with a world. For a game that came out in 2007 it is still the gold-standard that we point to almost two decades later. The game is nice and tight with a flawless execution of it's vision. An average playthrough would take around 9 - 10 hours but once you've been down to Rapture there is always something that calls you back. This is one of the all-time greats and should be one in everyone's collection. You get the original version thrown in with this but I had no bugs, glitches or crashes for my entire time with the remaster. It ran buttery smooth and was compatible with my X1X controller. I would absolutely recommend this game.

Go stuck in a room. Couldn't reload a recent save, couldn't kill the character. Had to search online how to open the console, turns out they removed it. Tried it with keybinds in the .ini, didn't work. Won't play 2 hours again.

It is not really a remaster but just the original game being updated for modern systems, but then again it comes from the time when that's what remasters were all about, fixing the game and making it playable on modern systems. The only thing that is missing is EAX but that thing never really worked well on this game due to the very small sound channel limit. BioShock starts off slow and limited at first, which may discourage some people from playing further but it is simply a hidden tutorial trying to get you used to the game's unique gameplay controls and mechanics in an environment which feels natural. Once you kill the first "boss" the game will start to open up as the "tutorial" has been completed and will gradually introduce you to new mechanics and enemy types. It is up to you and your creativity to make use of everything you come across in a lot of different ways which will make you feel like a clever lil' mf. Plasmids are fun although I only really used Cyclone Trap, Electro Bolt, Incinerate and Sonic Boom the most. The other ones seem very situational and simply made to demonstrate npc interactions with eachother or just to fuck around. Gene Tonics on the other hand will most certainly be swapped around very often as you go through levels so you can "adapt" to your surroundings, probably explains why there are so many Gene Banks layed out everywhere. At certain points your gameplay will be affected by one or two things, whether it is visual, stat based or something completely else to keep things fresh or at least to make make you try out different things instead of restraining yourself to 1-2 plasmids the entire game and being afraid to use something else. The game also trains you indirectly with a lot of methods, it shows you how important objects look like in the intro, constantly lays out signs everywhere for you, if paths are linear they get laid out with lights to follow as well as does some other things to try and give you a hand but not make it too obvious. I suppose it was inspired by Half-Life 2 or from the dev team's own playtesting sessions, but it clearly works while keeping the player unaware of the hidden help. Something you don't get to see from modern games. The story is interesting, will show you big reveals which raise more questions than answers and will also make you feel like the game is about to end but instead it pulls the rug from under your feet and says "fuck you, here's more love you bby xx" at least 3 times (from my experience) which just makes you want to play more and discover more of Rapture. BioShock 2 is going to be installed soon..

Rating: 9/10 Overview: BioShock™ Remastered is an updated version of the critically acclaimed 2007 classic, BioShock, set in the dystopian underwater city of Rapture. The Remastered edition brings enhanced visuals and improved performance, offering both new players and long-time fans a chance to experience one of the most influential first-person shooters of all time with modernized graphics and quality-of-life updates. While the core gameplay and narrative remain unchanged, the improvements make the game more visually immersive and accessible on current hardware. Story: BioShock's narrative remains as captivating as ever. Set in 1960, players control Jack, who finds himself stranded in the underwater city of Rapture after surviving a plane crash. As Jack delves deeper into Rapture, he uncovers the city's fall from grace, a tale of greed, political ideology, and human experimentation. The story is layered, with philosophical themes around objectivism, power, and freedom, explored through interactions with key characters such as Andrew Ryan and Atlas. The plot is enhanced by the rich world-building and environmental storytelling, which still stands as one of the best in the gaming industry. The choices you make and the twists in the narrative, especially the famous “Would you kindly?” reveal, leave a lasting impact long after you finish the game. Gameplay: BioShock is known for its unique blend of first-person shooting, exploration, and RPG elements. The gameplay is still a wonderful mix of action, strategy, and freedom. Players can use a wide array of weapons and plasmids (genetically altered abilities), which allow for creative combat strategies. Whether you're using your wrench to beat enemies in close combat or using electric bolts to fry foes from a distance, the variety in combat keeps things fresh and engaging. Rapture itself is designed as a labyrinth of interconnected areas, encouraging exploration. Searching through rooms for upgrades, audio logs, and hidden secrets is just as rewarding as taking down enemies. The Remastered edition improves the game's visuals without altering the fundamental gameplay mechanics. While the combat remains enjoyable, it does feel slightly dated compared to modern FPS standards, with some controls feeling a bit stiff or clunky by today’s standards. Graphics and Performance: The Remastered version breathes new life into BioShock with updated textures, improved lighting, and enhanced visual effects. The atmospheric underwater city of Rapture looks stunning, with the graphical upgrades adding more depth to the environment's haunting beauty. However, despite the improvements, some textures may still look a bit rough, and the aging engine can occasionally lead to minor technical hiccups. The game runs well on modern systems, with enhanced performance options, but players using older hardware may experience some performance drops in certain areas. Audio Design: BioShock's audio design is just as exceptional in the Remastered edition. The haunting soundtrack, composed by Garry Schyman, adds an eerie yet emotionally charged atmosphere. Voice acting remains top-notch, with actors bringing the characters to life in a way that makes Rapture feel like a real, living world. The audio logs scattered throughout the environment continue to be an effective way of delivering lore and backstory. Challenges: BioShock is a well-paced game with a healthy level of difficulty. The combat remains fun, but some areas can feel overly repetitive or challenging, especially on higher difficulty settings. The AI of enemies isn't groundbreaking, and while the game is filled with unique and varied enemy types, the challenge mostly comes from managing limited ammo and health resources. Final Thoughts: BioShock™ Remastered remains a must-play title, offering an unforgettable journey through the iconic city of Rapture. While some aspects of the gameplay are beginning to show their age, the Remastered edition makes sure that the story, atmosphere, and overall experience remain timeless. Whether you’re experiencing it for the first time or revisiting it, BioShock continues to be one of the best examples of narrative-driven, atmospheric first-person shooters. Pros: Stunning visual upgrades that enhance the original experience Timeless, thought-provoking story with strong characters Excellent audio design and atmospheric world-building Engaging gameplay that blends FPS and RPG elements Cons: Some dated gameplay mechanics and controls Minor technical issues and occasional performance drops Some textures still feel rough despite the upgrades BioShock™ Remastered is a fantastic way to experience one of the greatest games ever made, and it holds up remarkably well despite its age. Highly recommended for fans of first-person shooters and anyone who appreciates deep, narrative-driven games.
