today's gamers are soft and weak willed, and their computers drop framerates when any special attack is used

It's cute. Every female character pretty much gives me gender envy and the prinnies actually say "dood" closer to a noise they make for no reason instead of that weird obnoxious dub in disgaea 5 where they sound like a tween acting as if they're a skater from the 80's and it's insufferable. It's clear the replayability is through the roof. It's story is a bit much with it's voices and method of storytelling. It still comes across with a good sense of humor though and despite my pickiness for english dubbing, I feel this game grows on me the more I play it. That's without mentioning its fantastic art style that really works blending the spritework with the portraits, each reflecting the other even when expressions are being done. It's overall incredibly charming with a fun dynamic system for it's strategy. Not being exactly demanding perfect placement or strategy, but fully rewarding the player for taking advantage of proper decision making and tactics. While you might think the rpg like systems for units allowing you to propogate an endless army of units that you can allow to go through any mission as many times as you like to grind levels and stats. This works as its own difficulty slider in a way. While you could grind out the stats and levels of all your characters and even level items and equipment through a thing I'll get to later. You could also equally go the route of doing ever story mission once, trying your hardest and choose to use all that money and mana you've saved up to go about recruiting, get better equipment or in the worst case grind out the earlier missions or do the item leveling system. What makes this all so clever is how the game DOES discourage the player for choosing to make everything easier by making the content more monotonous the more you do it. While going through the first few missions with your three unleveled prinnies is an enjoyable challenge initially. Doing it 20 times and leveling them far beyond what they need them to be will make the player choose by their own measure to want to do anything else other than grind those same prinnies through the same mission since monotony comes through the players choice to remove the challenge. That's all without mentioning the item system. I haven't tried it out yet due to not exactly understanding everything about the system which does spook me. I think there could have been a bit more explanation for everything relating to items and equipment. While it makes enough sense as it is. It does suffer from a lack of qol with the ui in the menus that makes all the stats garble into nothingness. You'll see things like rows of the same weapon in the shop each priced differently by pennies due to a difference in stats that you then need to compare with your 12 or so units to see if it's beneficial or not. It's not necessarily a problem, but it does give me a bit of a headache to scroll through all these menus, remember the stats of the item I want to compare. Check each relevant character and determine if that character needs this specific variant of the item or if a different combination of items for the other 5 characters might work better with that item or not. It feels poorly thought out, but at the same time there's relief in knowing the amount the few stat points you might miss out on by not being able to organize everything in your head won't matter a whole lot. As for the item system, there's an item world that allows you to choose an item and based on its stats it will generate a custom dungeon you can go through where every floor levels the item by one point. Special enemy types, units and behaviors of these dungeons can lead to unique changes in the item your exploring. It's crazy enough that if the player wanted they could ignore the entire mainline game just to likely spend hundreds of hours literally only grinding procedural dungeons for their characters to max out every item they find in the shop from the swords to bows to consumable items. It's absolutely nuts. I think if you're not enjoying this game it would be either due to just how many numbers you need to pay attention to. Maybe the art style isn't your thing, the story, voicework. You can't speed up the dialogue boxes either. Or maybe just the lack of qol. I don't think every factor alone could put someone off of this game, but I can imagine this game isn't for everyone.
