I'm having a great time playing Lords of New York! I found it easy to learn, with fast-paced game play. The NPC characters are great. The game has a very interesting twist, each character has a set of special cheat moves that influence the outcomes. I highly recommend this game.

just bought because of sale, but i liked the idea about the different powers the charactors have i wish there was a story mode hopefully there will be. If there is that update then it could be the best poker game on steam just maybe but only with that story mode complete please finish the game please.

A very different take on playing poker, that adds timing and outright cheating to the game. I'm interested to see where story mode takes this game

What strikes me most about Lords of New York is the amount of care the Devs have already put into it. The game runs flawlessly, the artwork is inspired, and the voice acting is beyond the calibur I would expect for the initial release of an Early Access game. The gameplay is also already mechanically top-notch. The game makes it easy to quickly understand the standard rules of poker and provides much replayability via the different character powers. The powers themselves feel great, with no character being too broken over the overs. Each turn is exciting to play and I am eager to try out my favorite character against other human opponents. The playerbase is unfortunately low currently, making it difficult to play matches against anyone other than bots. This will surely only improve with time, however.
While we do not have Story Mode yet, I'm very confident in the Devs ability to provide us something engaging that highlights just how fun the core gameplay is. My biggest recommendation at this time is the incorporation of a progression system. I would love to be able to unlock character outfits, taunts, and card-backings as I play through the different modes. Steam acheivements would be a welcomed bonus as well.
I'll be sure to update this review as new verisons of the game are released. As it stands now, I'm happy with my investment and eagerly await what's next!

I've been waiting for this game for years, and finally now that it's in Early Access and I've had a chance to play it a bunch, I am really enjoying it. It's basically a game about cheating at poker, with a bunch of other poker cheats. It's your standard Texas Hold 'Em, only each character has different abilities that help them get an edge. These abilities are unlocked and "level up" as rounds of play go on, but even from the first deal, you're able to manipulate the cards, your opponents, and of course, make the usual decisions like call, raise, or fold. It's a great new take on poker, and the game for the most part seems pretty balanced, despite each character having a different set of abilities. It always feels good to win a hand of poker, but it's even more fun playing when you have these extra tools at your disposal to make the cards go your way, or get a peek at your opponent's hand.
The game has a great 20s feel to it, everything from the music to the very crisp art showcasing a number of characters straight out of a noir film. I would love to see more characters added, and more dialogue added as well. It's funny hearing about Lucky's dream last night the first couple times, but I imagine it'll start to get old after a while. It would also be nice to be able to choose who you play against in the singleplayer practice games.
I'm very much looking forward to Story mode, when that gets added, but for now there's singleplayer, LAN play, and multiplayer online.

This game manages to be lame, annoying, unrealistic AND offensive, all in one. If you play poker at all, you will find this interminable. AI players make ludicrous plays for no reason at all, and prattle on WAY too much, causing hands to take forever, and they aren't even interesting. Poker Night at the Inventory is a FAR superior game in all respects.

Save your money and do not buy this game!
Looks like devs ditched the project.
Cannot even play real poker, restricted to 8 rounds.
Protagonists are freaking boring chatterboxes.
Could have been a promising game but... but...
Do not waste your time and $10
Keep playing your favorite game instead!

Love the voice acting, the art and especialy the story mode(if it gets finished).
Sorry to say that its not a functional game yet and is being worked on part time by a small team. Things happen over the life of a studio, I get it, they have had some issues, but nowhere did I see that this was a part time project when I ponied up for the EA o so many months ago.
This series of events with this game highlight three of the problems with Early Access:
1. Devs hiding, over promising or lying about capabilities to Valve and the consumer
2. No long term refund policy. Shit happens, refunds should too.
3. Consumers like myself making poor purchasing decisions, getting too worked up about tossing a couple bucks at a prospective project and then manifesting their frustration in poorly written reviews that are the equivilant of screaming in the vacuum of space.
I hope this game gets finished properly and I can flip this review around, I really do.

I love learning how to play poker and watch the animation with this game. I am such a novice at playing video games and my learning curve will be steep. But I am inspired by all of the choices of characters. Oh, did I mention, I am 70 years old?
