My original review of this game was overly negative, and while there are still points that stand, it seems that they were due to a bug not allowing me to access the pause menu? After giving it another go I found the game rather enjoyable. I'm not sure if I'd call it £20 enjoyable, but definitely enjoyable. I'll list my issues first. Firstly, an issue I had with the game was not being able to use any movement other than locomotion. I have a smaller VR space so having to use the portal gun to relocate myself when i was a hair out of reach of something was very annoying. However, it turns out that there IS locomotion settings, but they're under the gameplay modifiers menu before you start the game. Both locomotion and turn snapping options are located here, which seems bizarre, I would consider them more to be comfort options than gameplay modifiers but alas. I had multiple instances with the portal gun where I would shoot a portal, and it would seem to get stuck on an object that didn't seem to qualify to have a portal atop or something, making the portal be delayed, or never show at all. For the most part it was a non issue, as you can cancel portals manually and shoot another one. But there were a few times where I needed out *now* and didn't really have time to try and shoot another. One of my biggest gripes is that playing on an Oculus doesn't seem to work correctly on the normal game, instead you need to go into the betas and select the Oculus branch, which I had to find out myself by looking it up after not being able to hit anything with the weapons. The only weapons you have in the game also are throw-able sharp objects like knives, darts, scissors, etc. It's a fun idea, but in practice it never felt great to actually throw them. Most of the time I would miss, and the times I did hit the enemy, there's a chance they don't actually die and just keep on, potentially killing you. It felt a little inconsistent. The enemies also felt a little, barebones? They were very simple. Either stand or patrol. If they see you, or a dead body investigate area. If you're in their line of sight, shoot. Works for the most part. But god help you if you kill an enemy in an open area. They eventually give up after not seeing you for a while, but the body is never marked as something they've seen before. So they just get stuck in a loop of "Investigate around the body" -> "Player not here" -> "Back to normal behavior" -> "See body" -> "Investigate around the body" -> "Repeat". They seem to get a little confused around doors too. Managed to get a couple enemies stuck just on a doorway before. On the side of positives however, level design is really fun, there are plenty of hiding spots and vents and back routes to sneak your way through the place. Never really considered an office space a good location for a stealth game but after weaving into office stalls to hide behind the dividers from a robot patrolling the isle I can say I'm fully convinced. I love how levels do have some verticality and you have to aim up to get around. The portal gun is a fun movement gimmick. Similar to the normal teleportation locomotion a lot of vr games have, but this one can go much further, and can be bounced on walls and ceilings to get you to places you wouldn't normally be able to get to. My favourite part about it though is how it doesn't teleport you instantly, instead letting you have a peak around the area you're going to teleport to, letting you use it as not only a movement option, but also an information tool. You can use it as a security camera and monitor guards paths, or use it to have a peek in an area, reading from afar and scanning for key items. While I had my issues with how open the spaces are, that was unfortunately my own stupidity, as I got turned around while missing notes layed out. When I started paying attention to the notes more the game got much more fun. I loved reading notes and having to remember names and locations, exploring cubicles looking for the right name tags or looking at maps to find the next location. I still think there is a lot of underutilised space in the game, it does make the payoff when you get the right location much more satisfying. Frankly, the game isn't really something that I would highly recommend that all my friends go out and buy as a must own VR experience, but it isn't bad. It's alright! Has it's moments, generally enjoyable. There are other things I'd recommend before this, but if it catches your interest, I wouldn't turn you away. Just be warned that it's a little janky. And if you can get over that then there *is* something to enjoy here. Also I love the worker robots they are adorable and if you kill them you are a horrible person.
