Played it years ago. And now bought it on Steam because i lost my CD :/
You should chek it out otherwise you really miss something.
The Story is amazing and you will find yourself thrown into an Apocalyptic underwater Era
where you have to help others and yourself to gain Progress and upgrade your ship.
It will become pretty challenging after a while and i never got bored.
Its Currently in Sale, i bought it without. I would do it again.

Story is poorly written
Characters are 1 dimensional
Gameplay is slow, uneventful and tedious
Map terrain is very sparse, the lack of budget really shows

Janky even for its time, this it neither looks nor plays well enough to enjoy it. Story is bare bones with cringy dialogues and characters with personalities of a cardboard cutouts. Even with its low price, I can't recommend it unless heavily discounted. And even then, only worth buying for nostalgic reasons.

Given that the game is almost 20 years old I enjoyed the game. Graphics are still ok and playable with the dark atmosphere of a lost world. Music and voice acting are great. The dialogues and story are not so great, though, especially given that the end is a cliffhanger that will never be resolved. And you need way too many clicks to move the story forward. Gameplay is fun, full 3D with being able to stop anywhere feels great. I enjoyed the missions, discovering bonus items felt like work. But it is possible to progress without. All in all good, but I would not have played it if it had not been on my list since forever.

The graphics are surprisingly good considering the game's age.
A well made 6DOF shooter. Interesting from start to end. Story is good too.
The ship's physics is like other non-underwater 6DOF and space shooters. Though it would me more accurate to say that physics in most space shooters have underwater physics...

Pretty Amazing
So I BOOT this thing up on my win10 64bit Pro system...and what happens? IT WORKS FLAWLESS IN 4K. Like talk about being ahead of it's time, even with patches that IS SUPERBLY RARE to see that kind of programming. I am super looking forwards to see if 1 gives me anything like that. Really, anything in 4K from anywhere NEAR that age (almost 20 years) looks so tiny usually it's unplayable, THIS AN2 is flawless on 4k right out of the box. Just thought I would chime in about how incredible I find that to be, THIS GAME surely deserves it's classic status in so many ways :)

The game is an FPS shooter with a submarine setting. I played the first AquaNox years ago and enjoyed it immensely.
However, this sequel is worse in every way:
- The environment looks duller
- The new "sniping" mechanic does not fit into a game where the submarine responds to your mouse with a lag
- You are constantly under-powered compared to your enemies
- A total of 3 voice actors, including the protagonist
And to top it off, extra lag with modern mice makes it completely unplayable. You just can't hit anything. Which is a pity since the story had some promise.
If you still want to play it, I recommend trying the easier difficulty levels. The only thing they seem to do is boost your comrades' damage levels, but that will enable you to relax and observe. Maybe throw in a shot if you feel like it.
Also, the game will try to launch with s 640x480 resolution, wich Windows 7 or newer will not support. you need to first launch the game, bail out, and then edit the configuration file in Documents/AquaNox2 or something. Look for lines with "480" and "640".

A fun little submarine come Freelancer knockoff. Same menu system to interact with characters, basically a point and click adventure with freelancer type underwater missions. Not a bad addition to my collection. But when all is said and done, we take none of it with us, or do we take it ALL by having experienced. If that's the case (Which I believe it is..) then experience EVERY game at least once. They can ALL have bits that make you go WOW, and bits that make you cringe. But it's the experience guys. And this Aquanox game, is an experience.

I played it a huge amount of time back in the day when it came out and now finally got it on steam.
The setting is dark, unique and twisted, the visuals aged quite well and the gameplay still is great.
Up to 4 Ships are fully customizable and differ your approach and outcome of each mission individually.
The missions vary from escorts over large-scale pirate-battles to stealthmissions, there also are some bonus-goals and free-roam after most missions.
if you like non(or less) generic shooters this might be for you

Truly an improvement over its predecessor, Aquanox 2 progresses faster, the graphics look good and introduce more colorful environments, and the dialogue is much improved. If it's ever on sale, you should pick it up. Check out my full review here:
