It's a great game, strange mechanics with combat but persevere and the exploration and quests become rewarding. Magic is best in later game aka End Game (though still combat specialist Mid to Late Game). So much to do, just explore to hearts content 1st. Does take awhile to really get good (Wolves are deadly in the beginning). Fast travel, like Morrowind, needs special items, found throughout the lands. This helps alot later on. Plenty factions to help out, needed to advance for various reasons, as well as unlocking talents for weapons. Rewarding when put some time into the game.

For me it was simply impossible to play the game out of the box due to numerous freezes, quit outs and crashes. I installed the community mods to fix the issues, and it was still crashing. I will not recommend a game that is basically broken on modern hardware (especially since the original 1 and 2 games are working flawlessly). Not to mention that they've hiked the price without fixing it. To anyone who loved the first two games, just stay away - I played this game 10 years ago, and it wasn't worth it then and its definitely not worth it now.

Gothic 3 underwent a number of changes compared to the previous games. The second game also has its changes, but it still feels Gothic, while this game is something a bit different. As I see it, Gothic 3 is undoubtedly worth playing for those who enjoed the first two games, at least because you should know how the story ends, plus I don't exclude that after playing you'll have a different opinion than mine. What are the details that I noticed throughout the game and that from my opinion are worth mentioning? Now you have a new stat - endurance that depletes not only when running, but also when parrying or attacking. With your bow/crossbow you now have to manually aim at enemies (doing it first-person is the best option). TNH can now wear a shield and a helmet, which is cool. We also have a reputation system: by doing quests in different cities that belong to different factions TNH gains trust and if we have reputation above 75%, the NPCs in this city now have green names, which indicates their trust (and you can even draw your sword in front of them without triggering a fight). I liked that you can get a companion to fight with you - that's a lot of help in the beginning. In this game you can also complete a quest without getting it first and then just take your reward right away (like killing some wolves in a cave you accidently ran into and then discovered there's a quest related to cleaning up this cave). The map (a kingdom of Myrthana) is not small and it's good that you have teleport stones for cities you visit - a fast travel feature. One of the things that frustrated me was a poor companions' AI when it comes to following you sometimes - they always stuck somewhere (but only sometimes). Also, I don't know if it was a bug, but in the desert when I tried to open a temple with the keys, there was a combat sound every time when I'm close enough to the building, and you can't open it while in combat (a way out was sneaking to the doors). Similar to Gothic 2 where you could loot someone's chest or attack and rob someone, then cast a spell that makes them forget and thus you don't ruin your relationship with them, in Gothic 3 there is a sleep spell with the help of which you can loot chests even with the guards standing right before them. The story now has an end and I liked that in this part you have to make a choice between Gods. As it's already been said in the beginning, the game is must-play if you're a Gothic 1 and 2 sympathiser. In spite of the fact that for me the game felt a little bit less Gothic, generally I enjoyed playing the game.
Not the worst continuation of the previous parts
Gothic 3 is a continuation of the story from the previous parts of Gothic. Nameless, along with a group of his companions, ends up in Myrtana, which is taken over by orcs. The main goal of the hero is to find Xardas. As the main character we have many options for development. We can support the rebels in the fight against the orcs, cooperate with the orcs and even collect reputation with the assassins. Overall, the game is very open-ended, we are not forced to do all the missions one by one. The world map in Gothic is large and divided into three continents: Myrtana occupied by orcs, frigid Nordmar, where mainly representatives of various clans live, and desert Varant governed by assassins. In fact, from the beginning we can go wherever we want, we are not limited in any way. On top of that, the game doesn't attack us with constant loading screens, so we'll go in and out everywhere without any problems with loading a new area. On the plus side, the density of the terrain, where we don't go on the map there is something going on (maybe except for some moments in the desert, where there is only desert), there is always some building in which there might be some NPC, maybe some bonfire, ruins, traces of blood that will lead us to the monster. You can't complain about a lack of boredom in this area. The reputation system is an element that is new in Gothic, it was not present in previous parts. Reputation is earned simply for completing missions for a given faction or in a given city. Reputation is divided into reputation of individual cities and reputation among factions, such as rebels, orcs, nomads. As a rule, if we want to gain reputation with one faction then simply the other faction will suffer. The combat system is worse than in previous parts. Sword-bashing is a torture, and the fights are simply boring. Better is the archery, which is definitely better in this part than in the previous ones mainly due to the fact that the arrows drop, so you can really feel the satisfaction of hitting someone from a long distance. Magic is strong and this is true regardless of which god magic we choose. Of course, we will perpetually run out of mana, unless we manage to unlock mana autoregeneration later in the game. The graphics deserve a big plus. As I mentioned earlier the game's map is very well laid out, and on top of that the views are really impressive for a game from 2006. You certainly can't accuse this game of lacking atmosphere. Sound-wise it is also very good, the soundtrack depending on the continent is different and also adds something to the aforementioned atmosphere. It should also be noted that the optimization of the game is not at a very high level even this year. On top of that, bugs where a character can disappear from our field of vision or mobs going under stones can be annoying.
Summary
Is Gothic 3 a good sequel to Gothic 2? I would say no, but as a game in itself it is not that tragic. Of course, it's a lot short of the ideal and level of Gothic or Gothic 2, but it's still a reasonably good game. However, the successive bouncing of cities can get boring and introduce monotony, especially since this is a large part of the gameplay. ✔️An open and lively world ✔️The graphics as well as the soundtrack are really good ✔️Ability to do tasks in any order, the game is non-linear ✔️❌Reputation system is ok, but it gets boring quickly over time ✔️❌Shooting with a bow - better, fighting with swords, staffs - worse, magic - neutral ❌The plot is not as interesting as in previous parts ❌Optimization and annoying bugs Time of completion: 40-50 hours (The main plot and some of the side quests) Rating: 6.5/10 ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
Follow my curator for more reviews
●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩۞۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬● ATTENTION!
